Edit: I just realized how long it's been since I actual sang. XP Sorry if I messed up. I was trying to get into the groove of things.

Not bad. I liked the first take. However, you sounded like you weren't very confident in your singing. Try not to let your voice quiver too much. You're not bad, but just try to be more confident and sure of yourself when you're singing. Also, try not to breath too heavily while you're recording. It will show when people listen. Other than that, good job!

Maybe it was forced a little, but I was just trying to give some of the strongest vocals that I have for this. I'm not a professional singer or anything. I've never had any training or anything of the sort. I just one day started paying attention a little to how other people usually sing, and then tried doing it myself. I was fairly pleased with the results. I don't think I'm anywhere near being the greatest singer to ever live, but from what I've heard from other people, I guess I'm not the worst either.
Actually, it's for people who don't know how to sing that I mentioned the bit about the diaphragm. I have no real training, either, just suggestions I get from my best friend and stuff I remember from playing flute (the breathing method is the same XD), but. Seriously, the volume and power? You'll get that if you breathe from deep in your gut. Always warm up your voice, too, like you would any instrument. It'll help your tone quality, too.

Oh, I wasn't trying to insult or anything. ^.^' You have natural talent! All training will really do is help you to get strength in your voice and keep steady and things like that. I've heard singers on the radio that seem like they were never taught basic things I learned in chorus. Not that I'm trying to put down training. Some people just need it more than others, I guess. Practice is also important, I know that.Maybe it was forced a little, but I was just trying to give some of the strongest vocals that I have for this. I'm not a professional singer or anything. Ten, I know what you mean about warming up. I was playing on myspace karaoke, and the songs I did after trying a few turned out better.
It also helps to stand up!!

And to note, when I say "don't know how to sing", I mean "have not received training". But it's the blind leading the blind since, uh, I haven't had any either. XD I'mma just try an' help, anyhoo. :3

I'm...actually not confident when it comes to singing. Barely if at all. I haven't sang for others...in I-don't-know how many years. Probably...eight years have gone by since. The second take...just came out that way when I started another attempt. It sounded cute so I put it in.Not bad. I liked the first take. I wasn't trying to breathe hard. It was done by accident (sensitive mic). I'm going to try a few more times, maybe even going through the whole song to get the rhythm right. Maybe tomorrow I can upload another video with another attempt. Until then I just have to practice.
Thank you for your input. ^^

Well its not completely your fault about the breathing. Everybody does it. However, if you put something like pantyhose in front of your mic while singing, it takes out just about all the breathing sounds you make.

Pantyhose? Fresh out. I use cottonballs and tape. Although... I may have to adjust it again...Well its not completely your fault about the breathing. Everybody does it. Well next time you get some, save one. Make sure its firm in front of your mic. If you do that, you should be good.

Also waiting for things to quiet down just a tad before finding the right tone to sing in that's most natural.
Edit: A-ha! Found a pair. It's a wonder they're not moldy. XP So grateful they're actually clean. They were with a bunch of old stuff we never use anymore.
Edit 2: ;_; I over used my voice (already?!). I have trouble in my regular voice saying "delight" (or 'ight' really). It sounds like that girl from The Grudge when she's near and all. >_< I don't want my voice box to be tired... Gah! I have to wait... Drat it! *grumbles* (extra edit: I've just now realized...aside from my voicebox being tired out, the way I say 'delight' or 'alright' always has the rough edge to it. *sigh*)

XD I don't use pantyhose. I haven't seen any in a good five years or so. XP Plus I'm broke... Hm. Maybe I can substitute it or something...

Well since I don't usually have any around my house, i use some gauze. I layer it up a bit though, so it has some substance to it and can keep out the breathing.

XD You did. I... haven't said otherwise, either. I'm just saying that headset mics are my personal favourites for it, s'all. :3 But what you do with the hose and the gauze pretty much is the same thing in the end.
lol Pretty much. This is what works for me and a lot of other singers. If anyone would like, I could clean up some of your vocal tracks so that there is no background noise whatsoever and so that the volume is equalized.

Here's the "basic" structure of what you're working with (it is without ending and bridge but those parts are not necessary for what you'll need to get me what I'm looking for). There's a full-ish band version, both for your enjoyment and to hear the full range of the song right now. There's a metronome track for the claps, please clap on every 2nd note. So first audio "click" is silence, second you should clap, third is silent, fourth is clap. Record one track of clapping for the duration of the metronome clicks. There is also a third which is similar to the full track but missing the lead guitar. However you want to do it, please get me the tracks for the claps, as well as you singing the chorus twice over. For those without pro audio, my suggestion is to burn it to disk or put it on an mp3 player, listen through headphones and record your singing. I can match up the tracks on my end, I just need your singing to be in-time with the original recording. Once you have all the tracks, have them in preferably WAV format (though Mp3 if you have a slow connection or are bandwidth-limited), package it up as a ZIP, and upload it to some sharing service, like mediafire or megaupload. Send a link to the following email and be sure to include your forum name for proper credit!(semi-encoded to reduce spam ):

I'm going to set a max cap or cut-off date for when people can volunteer so I don't end up with too many vocal tracks. I really appreciate everyone's enthusiasm, and I will only set the cut off after the point where it is impossible to understand the vocals put together because of too many people. More info to come, and sorry I didn't have this prepared any better at the moment! If there are problems I'll get back to specific people about it. I'll be collecting myself this week and will hopefully have more to elaborate on about this track in a few days. In the mean-time, feel free to get cracking, and if need-be, I'll have DiGi/TRiPPY relay any other really important info via mass-email (thanks in advance if I need to do that, you dynamic duo!).
Oh, and please don't spread around this WIP too much. I don't mind people getting it on the forums or whatever. It's intended for y'all to be able to do what you need to do.
Enough of my rambling, here!: http://www.mediafire.com/?l3mtzz0qy2z

Also, I want to personally thank DiGi for mentioning me on the first page, seriously. I'm honored.
I understand that all the tracks are taken already, which is completely fine. I have to sadly admit that I'm a bit of a digital-composing newbie, so I doubt I'd hit that quality bar yet, but I'll continue to do my best and improve!
Glad you guys like my work, though.
Sorry, just saw the above post (it wasn't posted when I clicked the reply button earlier).
Either way, this project sounds absolutely brilliant, and I'll definitely be supporting it! Hope it all goes well!

Like I said in my email, I fully admit that I don't sing, and I wouldn't be surprised if I'm tone deaf, but hopefully you'll be able to use it!
Can't wait to hear the finished result with everyone's voices. Such a great idea!

I have a bad habit of immediately listening to what I say when recording. So far I've caught some errors in my voice that I wouldn't have caught without hearing my voice VERY loud from the 'phones unless it was too late. Also, it's a pain reaching behind the tower to replug the 'phones.Haha aww SmashQueen! Why not just switch the headphones between the two? you dont need to listen to the computer WHILE it's recording, right? And I hope this post is coherent, it looks to be, but I'm exhausted as I've been working on 5 songs today, haha. Thanks to everyone again for taking a shot at this.
But nevertheless, I need batteries unless I want to be an electricity hog with my CD player (headphones can be used with it). Found another set of headphones though, so that's good. Shouldn't take much to get some batteries. I'm in a cramped space so to have a soda, CD player, etc. all in one place...well, a portable device up and working would be nice to save room.
'Sides, right now, I'm close to losing my voice and patience (friend doesn't know when to stop when I say TMI >>). I'll get to this project later on in the week when I have time. (Practice!)
And yes, that was coherent. ^^

I thought I'd give a nice little teaser to anyone who may be watching this topic at all. I have a Work-in-progress version of my own remix of Growing Wings called "Twin Seeds Flyby". The project may still be a good ways away from being finished, but hopefully this conveys an idea of what some of it will be like. Enjoy, and please leave comments if you have any!

That is absolutely fantastic.
I'll see what I can do to get you guys some more coverage on this project.

@RubyEclipse - Hey Ruby, how's it going man! Thanks for taking an interest in this project, getting coverage from SEGA themselves is really appreciated.
It would probably be best to direct to this very topic rather than the front page of our website since we're in the middle of changing the site and fixing it up a bit. We would have reported on this on the front page but we didn't want the news to get bogged down by other updates about us fixing different sections of the site. That's why we sent out the mass forum email instead.
To everybody else now who have downloaded the project folder and are starting to get their recordings done, have fun and just go with the flow. Don't worry too much about not being able to sing, we're all going to be singing together, including me and thats saying something, lol. Enjoy yourself and we'll see you on the track

Its still a test run, but it fits with the original melody well enough. I have a different one, I carried my voice a bit higher. And also it had parts from the original song, mixed with the chorus. If you want that one, I will be happy to provide.

hi. I haven't been around in a million years and otherwise only exist on the art forum but uh....
I want to participate too!
I have no technical knowledge whatsoever but I sing.
I'm a soprano, range-wise. I'll post a recording of me singing.. when I have one.

I was wondering if we should make a topic specifically for The World is Dreaming, so any and all questions and stuff relating to that song is in that topic and this topic can go back to focusing on the entire Lucid Dreaming project as a whole.
It's just an idea to try and make things run a bit more smoothly as i know Level 99 is busy as hell, lol. Stevo, let me know if you want a seperate topic made or if you're fine with this one.
As for sending out another email, get me on my mail and let me know what you're thinking. I'd say tell me here but this topic is getting some heavy traffic and it might be a bit easier to breathe and explain things in an email. Let me know what you need

Also, Level 99. I didn't tell you this but we're actually in contact with the original singer who sang Elliot's part in the kid version of Dreams Dreams from NiGHTS into Dreams. Cameron Strother is his name, we've been in contact with him on the facebook accounts for a few months now. He's still doing a bit of singing, i believe. I don't know what your plans are for this track but would you like us to contact him to see if he's interested in joining in for this track? The offer is there if you need it.
