Your top 5 best and Worst things about JOD
#1
Posted 21 July 2009 - 10:01 AM
My top 5 BEST:
5. JOD Makes Some nice references to the original.
4. Beautiful Soundtrack.
3. The graphic were Nice. Not really in Polygons, but the Textures and special effects made up for it.
2. 2 player mode, There was Racing, Battling, and Visiting other people's dream.
1. Replay value, The My dream feature Entertained me alot after I finally got that last Ideya.
My Top 5 WORST:
5. The dreamers were kind of bland.
4. Glitches.
3. UnSkippable Cutscenes, I really just wanna play the game!
2. Owl, this game's Omochao.
1. The game felt kind of Rushed.

Worst :
5. Wiimote controls are rather bad. Not that I mind since I use the nunchuk, but...
4. Some parts of the story are rather embarrassing, some other parts are just pointless.
3. Ugly character models (in my opinion). NiGHTS's sleeves are hexagons!
2. Unskippable cutscenes. I never want to skip cutscenes when I play for the first time, but that's not a reason to force players to watch them, especially when you can rewatch them later. I don't really understand why they would not allow you to skip cutscenes when every major Sonic game after Sonic Adventure allows you to.
1. It's too short, really. Sure it has a good replay value (as far as I'm concerned), but you can finish the game in just a few hours.
Best:
5. Aside from the main characters's models, the graphics were well done. The levels are colorful and creative, the bosses are well detailed, and there are plenty of special effects (perhaps a bit too much actually. There are particles everywhere!)
4. I've criticised some parts of the story, but other parts were just exciting, fascinating, amazing and/or cute. Especially during the endings.
3. Gorgeous CG cutscenes!
2. Awesome music! Memory Forest's and Crystal Castle's themes are my personal favorites.
1. The game just gives a magical wonderful feeling that I can't explain. Weird I know. There's just something there that makes me want to keep playing it.

1. The world of NiGHTS was finally revisited.
2. It utilized a new way to fly as NiGHTS.
3. Wizeman was made far more sinister this time around.
4. Beautiful CG cutscenes.
5. You could play as the original dreamers .
Worst
1. Owl.
2. Talking.
3. Reala calling NiGHTS boy and making a lot of newcomers confused.
4. The new way to play was **** up beyond repair.
5. Could not relate to the dreamers much. Will's problem was understandable but Helen's I could have cared less for.
#4

5. too short, beat it in one sitting
4. Owl, self-explanitory
3. easy bosses (except bomadam ), i enjoy a challeng, like facing general corrosive (srry about the link, i can't find one in good quality
2. bad story's kids storys
1.
Best
5. multiplayer (with wi-fi, that made me happy )
4. wii mote controls, don't see why people hate it, it gives the game a little bit harder
3. My Dream
2. great level design
1. Music, DDSS still has something that i'm not sure of yet. . .it gives a differen't feel than the rest of them
#5

5. NiGHTS voice wasn't anything like I expected. I figured it would mesh between male and female. Like two voices together. But that was just a minor disappointment.
4. The "chasing the jailer" levels. Took me the longest to get high ranks on them.
3. Endings were forced. The "Dad showing up in time to see me make the winning shot, Mom and me getting a standing applause." were right out of every G rated kids movie out there.
2. Owl Uuuuuuuuugh!
1. I couldn't relate to Will and Helen at all. All I could think is, "They're worrying themselves into Nightmares over THAT? How emo." What they need to do is have dreamers who have real nightmares. Let Tim Burton write the next one. Hmm...*Nessa gets a thoughtful look and walks away*
Best for Last:
5. Super pretty dreamscapes. Magic gardens, glass castles, neon city.... was preeeeetty.
4. I never got to play the original. I wanted a Dreamcast but could never bring myself to ask. Nessa's family was poor. So I felt giddy as hell to finally get to fly with NiGHTS!
3. Freaky bosses. Bomamba and her cats reminded me of my Ma' actually. XD
2. Entertains small children. My neice and nephew can sit and watch without bothering me too much. When my nephew asks stupid questions all I have to say is "It's just a dream." and it answers everything.
1. "Dreams, Dream" dances in my head throughout the day at work. Happy song for me. Before that Sonic Adventure Battle 2 was my official Happy music.

5. the facial expression of the characters and the tone on their voices were totally out of sync
4. how some cutescenes made you feel like there was something "missing" i.e: after the kids finding out that NiGHTS was a nightmaren, the story progressed as if nothing happened (specially Helen) a.k.a plotholes
3. you barely notice there are even minion marens around the stage
2. the dreamers were kinda crybabys, their problems were nothing that self-esteem couldn't solve
1. Endings were rushed, they didn't fit with the whole story at all
Best
5. The desing of the levels were amazing, I really felt like it was some kind of dream
4. the desing of the bosses and how their second phases were way more difficult the the first one
3. GC cutescenes, if the whole game would have these kind of graphics, I would probably ignore all the other flaws
2. NiGHTS voice is pretty fitting (IMO)
1. amazing epic sauce music, it really gets you into the game

- Broken score attack. Re-circuiting the course is gone, kills replay value.
- Simplified A-Life. Music system gone. I harp on this frequently. I hate that they did this.
- Unfinished, sloppy elements abound. If there's gonna be cut scenes, it defeats the purpose a bit if they're not fun to watch. Dammit Sega..
- Other deleted elements- NiGHTS's air brake, the Power Loop, bouncing dreamers. Usually sequels are meant to annex gameplay attributes, not reduce them. Playing as the dreamers in JoD is terrible.
Best:
- New graphical touches, like the new score graphic. The levels themselves are at least damn pretty. It's too bad the above cons kinda prevent you from fully enjoying them.
- Soundtrack is yay.
- Roger Jackson as Wizeman.
- Some of the new missions have solid concepts. I do like the ability to fight just bosses. That's good.
- Like others said, the throwbacks to NiD.
Bonus Con: I hate Reala's JoD design. There I said it.

1. It's a very pretty game. From glass palaces to glowing cities to forests at night, it has lots of nice things to look at. The colours are bright without being overly so, and it all has that dreamy quality of seeming just a tad distanced from reality. There's enough eye candy to give someone cavities.
2. The orchstrated music is a great touch. The whole soundtrack works in th game and just as music for enjoying on it's own. JoD has a very classy, elegant feel to it, with which the music fits perfect.
3. Nightopia and Nightmare fit their descriptions. Nightmare has a twisted, insane carvival meets Dracula's castle style, and Nightopia is bright, cheerful, and relaxing. The differences are there, but they also manage to be similar in a sense, because they're all part of the smae dimension.
4. NiGHTS's new design. As a fan of almost anything glittery, frilly, and elegant, I'm glad the NiGHTS has such a costume. It also fits his personality more than the NiD costume, I think. *Dodges torches and pitchforks*
5. NiGHTS's voice. I disliked it at first, but it relly fits NiGHTS's androgyny and flamboyance. Sometimes its feminine, some times it sounds like a young boy, but it always sounds like NiGHTS. *dodges more weapons*
Worst-
1. No exploring! It greatly saddens me that Sega made such gigantic levels, but no way to run around. Crystal Castle was particularly disappointing, since I really wanted to go inside the castle! You could argue that the on foot levels as the kids are the equivalent of NiD's exploration, but it's not the same. Luckily, Will's levels lend themselves to some time as the dreamer.
2. The Awakers. Shouldn't it be Awakeners? These aren't that much of a problem, and I do like their design, but I hate when theirs no escaping them; I want to explore!
3. Hard levels. *Glares at Lost Park's train mission*
4. Monologues. They're nice at first, but do we need to hear Will and Helen's soliloquy each time we go into Bellbridge?
5. Reala's fight. I can never seem to hit him.

actually, if you enter bellbridge as elliot or claris, no monologues (but u probably know that)
5. Reala's fight. I can never seem to hit him.
Why is this boss so annoying for everyone, do my consols want to make games easy for me

Power Loop is the English manual's term for the Trick/Stunt Ribbon. I almost never use the term, but I decided to here, lol.To play the original, you would need a Saturn, not a Dreamcast.
What's the Power Loop?

I may be able to help you. For that mission, you have to know that you shouldn't hold the boost button; instead you should press it repeatedly. Once you know that the mission is quite easy.3. Hard levels. *Glares at Lost Park's train mission*
I didn'tactually, if you enter bellbridge as elliot or claris, no monologues (but u probably know that)
By "Stunt Ribbon", do you mean the yellow ribbon that follows NiGHTS after he goes through an Acro-Ring ? Or the Acro-Ring itself? I think I've seen that name used for the Acro-Ring but I don't know where that name comes from...Power Loop is the English manual's term for the Trick/Stunt Ribbon. Acro-Ring, that's a new one to me.. I usually think of the term 'Trick Ribbon' as referring to both the ring and the ribbon it attaches to NiGHTS. Since one begets the other I lump 'em together. I think 'Power Loop' isn't very appropriate so fans usually use other more descriptive terms, kinda wish we had a better 'official' term for it. (Though I still don't like 'Twinkle Dust' either, but that's another subject.)By "Stunt Ribbon", do you mean the yellow ribbon that follows NiGHTS after he goes through an Acro-Ring ? Or the Acro-Ring itself? I think I've seen that name used for the Acro-Ring but I don't know where that name comes from...
And back to the point the only semblance we get of it in JoD is how NiGHTS now has yellow trails when he does acrobatics. The bonus points in JoD make sense, but it's no replacement for the full-fledged ribbon from NiD.

Thanks for the clarification. "Acro Ring" (or Acroring) is the name given by NiD's Japanese manual, so I guess it's the official name. ("Twinkle Dust" also appears in NiD's manual, by the way... I used to think that term had been introduced by JoD, heh).Acro-Ring, that's a new one to me.. Really? I never knew.. Acro Ring.. so is Twinkle Dust in the JP manual too? Nothing about it in the USA manual. PS2 manual is completely Japanese.. Ugh with these inconsistencies..Thanks for the clarification. "Acro Ring" (or Acroring) is the name given by NiD's Japanese manual, so I guess it's the official name. I di know that, but I prefer Helen's design to Claris in JoD. She and Elliot look like creepy puppets close up.actually, if you enter bellbridge as elliot or claris, no monologues (but u probably know that)
Yes. Your Wii loves you.Why is this boss so annoying for everyone, do my consols want to make games easy for me
Thaat you very much! This will improve my playing exponentially!I may be able to help you. For that mission, you have to know that you shouldn't hold the boost button; instead you should press it repeatedly. Once you know that the mission is quite easy.
I love the term "twinkle dust"! It makes me picture NiGHTS with big, sparkly anime eyes doing jazz hands. My mind rarely makes sense.(Though I still don't like 'Twinkle Dust' either, but that's another subject.)

1. OWL
2. NiGHTS and Reala designs. They were silly. But I luffs them.
3. MOAR CONTENT. The game is LARGER that NiD. and Y'know what? dreamdrops and secret ends and some serious toughshit adds REPLAY VALUE.
4. MUSiC
5. GRAPHiCS. Or rather, artistically, there's tons of awesome.
Worsts:
1. VOiCE. Actually, I think Julissa did a great job. That is, NiGHTS' voice sorta grew on me. The echo is cool, and it sounds so wierd, and, well, trippy. But the kids. eeeechhh
2. They changed the whole way the night dimension worked. I like it. I like the old way. I can't decide.
3. Animation, that is, solid objects. The kids try acrrying stuff, or NiGHTS moves his mask about? THEY DON'T EVEN TOUCH iT. There's some other good stuff there, though....
4. some toughshit levels.
5. Wiimote. 'nuff said.
#21

1) Bad use of Wii Controls, especially Wii Remote Mindsite
2) Too Short
3) Poor character models
4) Inability to really explore the dream worlds like in the original.
5) Overall the game felt rushed and unpolished at parts
Best:
1) NiGHTS is finally back
2) Nice world design overall
3) Great soundtrack
4) Pretty much all the other visuals besides the character models look great
5) Overall nice structure of the game.

1. My dream
2. the stages and and the design of the boses some of them look really good
3. a sequel after how many years sega teased us about
4. 2-player feature
5. having both the original and jod sountrack on it was pretty sweet
worst
1. owl
2. reala's new look
3. too short
4. mindsight aka ****ed up control configuration(pardon my lanuage)
5. Wizeman being too easy
#23

technically poor
pointer controls were a failure (come on Sega look how well elebits controlled pointer)
unskippable, terrible cutscenes
kids platforming. I didnt like it in NID I dont like it now
they rushed it. I wish corporate decisions werent so involved in actually making games. Let the devs finish the damned thing. Especially something this niche. Same thing happened to WindWaker. A Great game, but ultimately, and forever flawed because it was rushed to completion.
best.
Music. Just as memorable as the first. I still listen to it frequently with a big smile.
Art. This game was beautiful at some points, especially the BellBridge stage. I think artistically it was even better than NID.
boss designs were inspired and really really fun to fight
2 player was fun. I enjoyed it more than the first.
Some extra NiGHTS related objectives that werent just platforming, so I could fly around even more.
And one bonus positive:
That it exists. ITS A NEW NiGHTS, and I own it.

1. Flying through the Nightopias. Seriously. It's really fun and no other game has been like that for me.
2. My Dream (Aw....so cute.)
3. The music, especially "Dreams Dreams."
4. The extra content for achieving certain goals.
5. Seeing a possibility for a sequel.
Worst:
1. The voice-acting with Helen. (Screaming "Aah!"...yeah. Real convincing.)
2. Unskippable cutscenes (Shut up so I can play!)
3. Will and Helen. Sorta...bleh personality-wise.
4. Watching the kids run... Normal kids don't run like that.
5. No Jackle! (This wouldn't normally be here but then I learned about him... I'd love to have seen him at some point.)
Funny enough, the kids were my main complaint. O.o
#25
Posted 26 July 2009 - 10:34 AM
Worst:
1. Kids' unconvincing voice-acting
2. Rough models (for the characters, mostly). Could have been a lot more detailed and smooth.
3. Puppet-like animation
4. Lots of glitches that can be triggered easily, without going out of your way to find them (which means it can happen when you don't want it to)
5. Cut-out story scenes leave some holes in the plot (Huh? When did Will ever ask to see more of NiGHTS's powers? Oh, yeah, in that cutscene that never made it.)
Best:
1. Awesome music. Fits the tone of the stage/boss fight and is enjoyable to listen to even when not playing the game
2. Dream theme, overall tone. One of the few dream games that feels dreamy and tries to explain dreams (as opposed to Kirby)
3. The characters. The dialogue, expressions, and behaviors show a lot of personality and make the story interesting.
4. Fun gameplay. I would play this game for hours if I could. It's active and quick, I don't have to play for hours to get farther.
5. Depth. Like with NiD, there's still more details to discover and ponder

1. No Jackle
2. I didn't like Reala's new character design
3. The awakeners, I just want to explore for pete's sake!!
4. Dreamer's problems have been done a million times before.
5. Calling NiGHTS a "he", I prefer NiGHTS to be genderless, so we can picture NiGHTS to be whichever gender we want NiGHTS to be. ( I say girl.)
Best:
1. I liked the voice acting, ( especially Reala's, I even like his weird laugh.) Not so much the kids though...
2. The scenery was pretty good.
3. My Dream was pretty good, granted, it does have it's flaws, but I like to see how it transforms over time.
4. I liked some of the music.
5. The replay value was pretty high. ( Collecting dreamdrops and things like that.)

Just before NiGHTS turns into a roller coaster, he says "Okay, Will, you asked to see some more of my power? Well, you're gonna love this!".He saw more of NiGHTS's powers when NiGHTS turned into a boat and roller coster and whatnot. Wait, when was that scene?
But Will never asked this. He was supposed to, in a custcene just after River Rescue, but that scene was removed.

Worst:
~ No Jackle! I want Jackle. >.>
~ Wiimote control. I couldn't fly that thing at all, honestly.
~ Awakers. They got on my nerves when I was looking for Dreamdrops, I just wanted to look around for goodness' sakes!
~ The limited use of Personas. An incredible amount more could be done with them.
Best:
~ Soundtrack, hands down. I'm STILL listening to it!
~ The concept in general. An entire game based on dreams and flying jesters is just... FUN!
~ "Special" cut-scenes: like the opening for the kids, and the ending in Bellbridge... absolutely gorgeous.
~ I enjoyed the voice acting, for the most part. ^^

1. Opening cinematics. Pretty graphics are pretty.
2. The dream worlds are sooooooo pretty. The mirrored rings in Crystal Castle was a wonderful idea, along with the sundial contraption.
3. Bellbridge was a great idea. I just love everything about it. I hope to see them reuse this level somehow in future games.
4. I liked the dreamers. Why does everybody else think they were bland?
5. The concept of a world of dreams intrigues me. o:
Worst
1. They rushed. :[
2. Helen and Will's VO. It was nice in the opening scenes when they said things like "Sorry mum!", "Mum, I'm sorry.", and "Mum?!", but after that, I wanted to punch myself in the face.
3. Artificial-life confuses me. They should've put a helluva lot more work into this. .__.
4. They completely crapped up the cutscene's graphics. They got me psyched up when I saw the openings, and then it's like, "BL@H I'11 P00P 0N YUR SCREENZ0RZ L0L0L0L!!11". It was really kinda' sad. :[
5. Whenever I dualize with NiGHTS at the Dream Gate, Owl gives me his 'Hey Look Listen' lecture. There should have been an option at the start of the game to turn him off.
