I had a N64 and a Playstation back in its day. It's funny, though, I remember wanting one, when they were showing the first commercials for it, but it was mostly just because of the 3-D Sonic game for it...that never was. =( I was only 8-9, and was all like "Wow, 3-D Sonic, awesome!!" XD

I was rather young during the Saturns era, so I missed it the first time around.
I did see a copy of NiD at the mall's vintage games botique but diden't buy it because I wanted a Saturn first, and the next time I went to the mall, they had Saturns systums, but no NiD
STUPID, STUPID, ANDERSAM!!!! aawwrrrr!!

But I do have Christmas NiGHTS and a NiD sampler disk. I'm working on getting the NiD game and a Saturn. But I'm not new to NiGHTS through JoD, I've known him since Sonic Pinball, but I became a crazy mega-fan by time JoD came out. XD

A free Saturn or a free holiday?sorry folks, was away on a bit of a holiday well, i have one going for free right here! consider it a competition of sorts!
Despite controversy over JoD's merits, it has recruited many a NiGHTS fan.

....i just noticed that, quiet you!
a free saturn! i bought burning rangers, and with it, got a saturn aswell! i already have a saturn(my beloved jody!) and so i thought about giving it away on here! i think what i'll do is, take down everyone's names that are interested in the competition (assuming they dont already have a saturn, fairness and all that) and put them onto bits of paper and do a bit of a lottery! kinda like the great NiGHTS giveaway TRiPPY and DiGi did, except i don't have quite as much confidence as them as to appear in the video, i'll get elliot to do it!

I do remember playing the NiGHTS pinball on SA1 when my friend bought a Dreamcast along with a bunch of games along the time when it failed (2001? 2002?). I asked my friend, "is there a game based on this? I'd like to play it!"
My friend said, "it's for the SEGA Saturn."
Yes, I was disappointed, but shrugged it off since I was having fun play Sonic games. I haven't even heard that Sonic had his own game series until that time when my friend bought his Dreamcast. I have only thought it was a TV show.

This doesnt include people who have already told me and i'm also interested in hearing peoples stories, so feel free to tell them even after la competitione is over!

i highly recommend getting it, i loves it i do!
and people i've noticed a bit of a problem! i just remembered about region differences, and so this is a PAL sega saturn! so only PAL games are going to work unless you have an action replay or something. so people outside of Europe (which i dare say is going to be most of you!) may either have to just buy PAL games, or buy the action replay for it :/ i'd buy it for the winner myself, but unfortunately i haves no other money at all

I think you mean "outside of Europe" rather than "outside of the UK". I'm pretty sure all Saturns are the same for all of the Europe, and even for Australia.
that they are, i didn't notice that, thanks kentilan! i shall go and change it!

I've had a Saturn since probably 1997 maybe late 1996? I don't remember exactly when I bought it but it was before the system died forever but after it had been out for a while. I think it has to be my favorite console because of all the niche games available for easy importing.

I actually got lucky and Christmas NiGHTS was IN my Saturn when I bought it.
Oh WOW. That must've been a really awesome surprise!
I'm new to NiGHTS through JoD, and I've never played the original. (*le gasp!* I know. It's something I MUST do.)

Here's where it gets a little...interesting. Over the years, I became semi-reliant and interested in cheat codes and action-replay stuff. So sue me: there are so many amazing games to play, with great stories, music, cinematics, and more that I didn't have the time to play them all "properly". I ended up trying to soft-mod my Saturn for the swap-disc trick and ended up a) gashing my hand open with the cd lid spring when I accidentally snapped it and ended up half-breaking the lid. It ended up also messing up the laser a little, and games began to stop working over time. One day, I because so frustrated when no games were working that I *gasps* in my teenage frustration took it outside and took a 5-iron to it. While it felt quite cathartic, I only realized the next day what I had done. I woke up wanting to play some Fighters Megamix and, having forgotten what I had done in my morning mind-fog, saw the Saturn's remains in the trashcan by my bed. Just like in a movie, I literally reached my hand into the trash, grabbed a handful of Saturn-bits, and yelled a very cinematic "NOOOOOOO!"
I didn't get rid of my games at all, because the Saturn was way past deceased and I knew I'd get another one someday. That day came just a few years ago, when I bought one for $35 at a Power Gamer near my house. I did get rid of my peripherals when the original broke, but as luck would have it, they had the japanese controllers (SO much more comfortable than US clunkers, which I had at first) AND a 3d analog controller. The joy I experienced when I plugged in that new-ish system again to play some NiGHTs was indescribable.
Honestly, I didn't think I was going to type that much. Sorry for the long story!

Heh I just had to reply to this...
Your story was seriously awesome and had me rolling. XD That poor first Saturn...
~~~
My Saturn is a hunk of junk. I got it in 1999 at a flea market for $40, and was apparently too stupid to realize that you shouldn't buy a console that's been sitting outside for an undetermined length of time, and then was too lazy and desperate to try to get a refund. Years earlier, I became fascinated with NiGHTS when I saw a game review for Christmas NiGHTS. But I had already squealed and begged and pleaded for an N64, which I still have and love. Several months later, I bought NiGHTS anyway (box set with the multi-controller) and put it on my shelf as incentive to one day get a Saturn.
Unfortunately, the Saturn I ended up with is just a suicide box that sits there and wishes for death every day. Usually, when I load a game, it tells me "drive empty". Sometimes, it tries playing it as a CD (which is kinda neat, because audio tracks will actually play off the game discs). When it does decide to run a disc, I can hear it scraping up the CD - I think the center hub is pushed down too far - so my games have little hairline scratches all over them. Besides the horrible chugging it makes while running a disc, it also coughs up a bunch of dust. Every time I take a game out, there is some kind of strange ash that's come up from inside the system. Later on, it developed a freezing problem in the middle of games. And the internal memory only worked for a brief period, strangely enough, about 5 years after I bought it.
But, that's all over now, because I think it finally died - no matter how many times I reload a disc now, it just tells me "drive empty". Or it could just be that it hates me, which is likely.
So yeah, I played the original NiGHTS first, on my crappy Saturn. Now it just sits on my shelf like some overglorified paperweight.
anyway, I never knew what it was called so I always reffered to it as 'the flying game' (I remember that perfectly too)
but then I gave away full version of NiGHTS to this kid that used to live across the street from me and I kept the sampler for some reason.
So when I bought Sega Super Stars for Eye Toy back in like '05 I was like "omg it's him it's him from the flying game!"
Anyways, I still own my same Saturn from when I was little but I had to re-buy NiGHTS off of ebay.
And ever since then NiGHTS has always been a part of my life *tear*
@Dreams
lol, it seems to me like you need a new Saturn xD
