How have you guys been?

I'm not really sure if this will bother too many people, but I figured that I'd give you guys the heads up if you didn't know. It has come to my attention that there is a movie adaptation in the works that will be based on the Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender (yes, I know that production started in 2008, I'm very slow like that). It is to be directed by M. Night Shyamalan (the mastermind behind the Sixth Sense movie and a few others) and will take place during the first season, which is Book 1: Water. There's a possibility that there might even be more than one of these movies... but hey! If the writing, directing, the casting and all of that good stuff is well done then there's nothing too serious to worry about right?

Unfortunately, Hollywood is planning on working its infamous "crap magic" on it and seems to be heading down the same exact road that they took with Dragon Ball Evolutions (yes I mentioned that wretched sin against nature). Personally, I have some very, very mixed feelings about this...

So does anyone have any thoughts about this?

P.S. Here's the teaser

Hm. They made Aang's tattoo look more elaborate, interesting design choice. It's confusing what with James Cameron's unrelated movie named 'Avatar' and this where they have to ditch 'Avatar' and just call it 'The Last Airbender'.

I actually laughed at the trailer...M. Night Shyamalan? That seems like an odd choice. It also seemed really fake (like the countless "Legend of Zelda" trailers on YouTube), and what relation does it have to the series? Granted I lost interest after only a few epidsodes, but this seems like a backstory. That could be interesting, actually.

This is M. Night Shyamalan's chance to make a good movie after his long string of crap. IMO he hasn't made a good movie since Unbreakable. But since the source material is full of adventure and is fairly light, I think he might be able to make a pretty good movie. Something that is trying to be fun more than just pretentiousness and "twists". He is a technically good director, he just ends up writing terrible scripts that he appears to consider as the smartest things ever.

Agreed. However, I'm not particularly optimistic about this film. Maybe I'm biased since I adore the show, but I don't think a live action adaption could doanything but sh!t all over the source material. The thing that has me most concerned is the casting. It just seems incredibly off. The choices for Sokka, Katara and Zuko are particularly bizarre.

LOL I wonder how there going to do Katara's hair XD

I'm skeptical about why they decided to make this a movie anyway. the animation was gorgous in the Nick cartoons, and its fine just the way it is in my opinion. I've never heard of the director, but thats because I'm not in the movie loop.

Im...not quite looking forward to this movie, I mean, I loved DBZ and when they released that live action movie I tecnically wanted to throw up

I never liked live action movies bassed in actual animation, it seems...odd and unlikely...the actor rarely match with the original characters and the special effects are always so...Power Ranger-ish....eew

I'm reserving judgement until I hear more about it.
