Bats are my favorite wild animals, so I was thrilled when I found the Silverwing Series by Kenneth Oppel. It's a children's fiction series about a young bat named Shade who breaks a very old law and watches the sun rise, and the serious consequences of this seemingly innocent action thrust him into a long journey to reunite with his mother and colony.

I'd love to write my own story about bats, so this was an inspiration for me. X3

Has anyone else read this?

Yes! I have the first three books. I didn't know there was a forth one until now. I love bats too, and I really liked these books.

I've read most of them. I stopped about halfway through Firewing though because I thought it sucked. I absolutely adored Silverwing and Sunwing though. It's really quite deceptive though. Despite being technically a children's novel, the book is really quite mature and touches on some serious issues. Either way the first two books are fantastic and Shadeis a great protagonist.
