Did anyone watch Eurovision 2009? and if so, what entry was your favourite?

oh, i forgot not everyone here is from europe! eurovision is a song contest where each country in europe submits a single song, and everyone votes for their favourite one. the winner this time was norway! :) it's been very political in the past, as countries would just vote for countries they were next to, or had an alliance with, regardless of how bad their song may have been. the rules have been changed though, so no cheating like occur. i don't know how or what they did, but i worked! :)

Sounds fun

Yeah, there could easily be bias in a situation like that.. they have to keep every entry's origin a secret, so people can only vote based on what they hear.

I haven't seen everything, but I'm not surprised that Norway won. However, I thought that Germany had an advantage with Dita Von Teese preforming with them.

Being Turkish, i was naturally cheering on Turkey throughout the voting thing....only i really don't feel their song was that great. The rhythm was nice and the dancing was great but the woman couldn't sing live.

Norway was quite good, i have to admit.

Everybody says the UK song was bland but i found it to be quite nice. I actually enjoyed it. Lol, did you see the UK singer get bumped in the face by the dude playing the violin? XD I bet he got fired the next day, lol!
Also, i find it quite hilarious that Germany get Marylin Manson's wife to dance for them in a kinky outfit...and what does Great Britain get? Andrew Llyod Webber on piano XD

And who was that chick that remortgaged their flat to pay for the stage set-up they had? lol, Anti-Crisis Girl or something!

All in all, Eurovision was actually ok this year. The new voting thing makes it more interesting now though 'neighbouring countries' still vote for eachother, the gits.
12 points from Cyprus to Greece, wow. I totally didn't see that coming e_e

Lol yeah i did :P Why Andrew Lloyd Webber though? and is it just me, or are most of the acts just women singing in dresses? or in the case of Verka Serdyuchka, cross dressers :P
plus i quite liked finland's sort o rap bits, but the women singing didn't really catch my attention. and moldova's trumpets, it's all latin! :P

Would you rather Dita on piano and Andrew Lloyd Webber doing burlesque? :P
Anti-Crisis Girl was from the Ukraine. That was certainly an...interesting preformance.

*watches Eurovision clips on the BBC website*

Russia's song was slightly unnerving. the song was good, but all of those faces on the screens were freaky to say the least. Azerbaijan was pretty good, but I found it a tad repetitive. Estonia appealed to me most, but the "Dance of Moldova" was a close seond. Portugal was good, but Kirby would be right at home with those bright, cheery backgrounds and flowers on the stage. :P
Malta's song reminded me of Celine Dion, and the preformer had a really powerful, melodious voice. Finland's rapper had a accent that was reminicent of Weird Al's "Amish Paradise" song. Turkey had a good entry with fancy costumes, a very cool and dancable beat, and overall a good preformance.

The outfits never fail to amaze me. The German outfits were nice (I like retro style), but the singer's silver spandex pants were really tacky, in my opinion. Jade used up the entire country's supply of glitter, beads, and sequins, which was a sharp contrast to Russia's rather simple dress. The French outfit was very classy, and it fit the song very well. I found Albania's dance just plain weird; It looked like they were dancing with Gumby. The preformers from Bosnia and Herzegovina were great, and their costumes were awsome. Armenia's song was not my favourite, but the costumes were amazing, and really made up for it. :P

Personally I voted for Norway. Their victory was well deserved. The nordic songs were the ones that I liked the most: Norway's song, which I voted for, was hands down the best. I was, however, a bit disappointed that Denmark's song didn't get a higher score - but then again, it was not that important, as I believed Norway was the winner. I liked Sweden's, Malta's and Iceland's songs as well.
But seriously, that guy from Greece creeped me out! He was so nasty that I was yelling at the TV telling him to stop, and I was still shaken by it by the time Germany went on stage. So I couldn't help being reminded of the Greek guy during the German song, with the result of me being disgusted with both of them.

I had not seen the show for 15 years until this year, back when Ireland won every second time. And it has gotten a lot better.

Ireland didn't even make it in this time, which i think is a shame, their performance was quite alright!

Pardon the pun, but then you could basque in his glory!

He certainly was quite creepy. i don't even remember the song- I was like "O.O" then entire time! :P

I love Germany's song (but then, I have a weakness for swing and Dita Von Teese), but it was an interesting contrasts to songs such as those of Moldova or Norway, in that it was not very traditional, and decidedly American. Am I the only one who made his observation?

A lot of countries did it. It was the same with Andorra giving twelve points to Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia and vice versa, Azerbaijan and Turkey. But it's also worth remembering about the cultures of these countries. The voted could be based on the fact that these countries genuinely like those songs best - but we'll never know for sure, will we?

I thought this year that there was going to be two seperate votes? 1 public and 1 judging panel? I was expecting to see some sort of number on public votes.
