Yeah, I was really excited reading this because it actually goes in depth to a few things that we couldn't really say was fact or fiction for sure. A solid source to some NiGHTS storyline, yay!

"I beg you, let me impose on you."
NiGHTS stretched out a hand, leading the boy to timidly reach out with his own. As the two hands touched, the boy's hand suddenly shone with red light.
"What?"
"You!?"
The red light left the boy's hand, heading straight for NiGHTS. And as the two palms pressed together, a large red glow wrapped around them. The light piled up around their bodies, uniting them!
"!? I'm now in you?"
"Yes. From now on, I am you and you are me. The two have become one."
"Really?"
"Now, let's continue!"
Taking the two as one, enfolding NiGHTS and the boy, the red light sprang straight up.

"I don't believe it, we can fly!"
The red light sprang up high into the air, leading the two. Steadily they flew higher. The beautiful land of Nightopia fell quickly away beneath their feet. Even the building that had imprisoned NiGHTS was a mere speck, resembling a toy.
"Free, I'm free! Mr. NiGHTS is still amazing!"
"NiGHTS? Is that your name?"
"Yes, I am NiGHTS. You?"
"I'm Elliot."
"Please to meet you, Elliot!"
It's all a dream, Elliot thought. I'm not here; it is NiGHTS and I together, in one person. That is how I'm flying through the air. That's what this dream is. Having such a strange and amusing thought, he thought no further. Elliot, inside NiGHTS, began laughing. It was such a funny thing.
NiGHTS darted through the sky as freely as if he were swimming. Joining in the mood, Elliot laughed as NiGHTS twirled like a top.
"NiGHTS, I'm dizzy!"
"Yes, but it's the best feeling in the world!"

Here we have a continuation of that last line in the last update.

Coward. That time I lost my courage, wasn't I one?

But I cannot escape now.

Now don't get me wrong. It might be a translation thing. But it seems to me as though NiGHTS escaped from Nightmare in the past. Ran away or such.

"Who are you? And that red light before, what was that?"
"That light..."
As NiGHTS opened his mouth, a voice sounded directly in his mind, a very small, low shriek like a ripple.
"It's the Nightopians!"
"What?"
In an instant the Nightopians were shaken. A low, subterranean rumble could be felt, and the ground broke open, revealing the face of Nightmare, the land of bad dreams. Nightopia is being encroached upon by Nightmare!
"What in the world is causing this motion?"
"It's his doing..."
"His?"
"Wiseman, the ruler of Nightmare. He plans to erase Nightopia!"
"If that's true, then our dream is a nightmare, isn't it?"
"By nature, Nightopia is a world born from the dreams of your people. Wiseman intends to break in, it seems. I know! We must guard the dream, for ourselves and Nightopia!"
Elliot strongly agreed. We must protect it. NiGHTS and I, for the World of Dreams!

I don't know about you guys, but the aspect I love the most of this whole storybook is the clear picture we get of NiGHTS' personality. It's fantastic. We really didn't get too good of an idea from the game, I'll admit, due to the lack of actual speech and storyline visualization. This storybook is a real blessing for us fans, I'll say that much...!

I thought that too when I first read that part. I did see Jof's point of view, but I agree, I don't think that was the case.

But it's a nice theory, though.

Oooh. This is getting juicy. It's like monthly updates of your favourite soap opera.

"I'm not sure about this."
"What?"
Until now, Elliott had seen nothing terrible, but now before their eyes appeared creatures that were the incarnation of bad dreams - Nightmarens. Gulp. Elliot shivered with terror and his heart grew heavy. Those are Reala's underlings, thought NiGHTS. This place becomes grim because of their spirits.
"Good, let's go!!"
"Yeah!"
NiGHTS drew in an enormous breath and drew a huge circle around the Nightmarens.
"Gwaaaaah!!"
Thereupon, the central Nightmaren figure suddenly vanished.
"Hey! Why did that happen?"
"Thus, we cut out the space around them. And thus, the cut-out space is sent to another place."
"That's wonderful, NiGHTS!!"
"...so don't you worry."
One by one, the Nightmarens vanished. In that case, NiGHTS, we're protecting our dream, Elliott thought.
"NiGHTS..."
Thank you because it was it was a scary event, thought Elliott hesitantly, as NiGHTS laughed triumphantly.
"I'm Mr. Invincible!"

"These are small fry, after all... however I think we may have to work a bit harder for the rest."
Before their eyes, someone suddenly appeared to block their path. It was Reala.
"You think you can win with that guy linked with you, NiGHTS?"
"And if I do?"
"Elliott, do you understand?" Reala rolled with laugher.
What? What did that guy say; what he was planning? NiGHTS' body danced.
"The boys that get absorbed by NiGHTS, they look like monsters in a little while -- like me, he was created by Wizeman's hand to give birth to nightmares."
"Eh?"
Elliott's body stiffened. NiGHTS, a compatriot of this apparition? As one, so the other? Elliott's heart began to sink beneath a heavy darkness.
"Wait a moment, Elliott. It is true, certainly, that a little while ago I was a Nightmaren...."
NiGHTS' voice could not reach Elliott, for he had become a captive of his fear. The connection between the two of them was cut, even their communication severed.
"Aagh!?"
The two were divided. A terrrible shock assaulted the pair. Two bodies that some time ago had become one were torn loose with a 'whiff'. Two minds were likewise separated.

And NiGHTS confesses !
But Reala's lines : O. People that get absorbed by NiGHTS eventually turn into Nightmares ? It may not necessarily be true coming from Reala, but hot damn, if that isn't an intresting and unique concept.

I want the rest of this so bad. I almost thought Thrippa had given up, but my my, what a pleasent surprise this was.

Perhaps a glimpse of NiGHTS before he 'turned'..

Cool, the idea of the Marens 'absorbing' humans sounds a bit darker than the merge we know.. Perhaps this also gives us a clearer picture of what would happen if Reala merged with a dreamer. Indeed, they would likely go insane.

I also like how they introduce the Paraloop.

... You've got a point there.

But I'm thinking, assuming that they actually never met before, that Reala's saying that just to scare Elliot, as we already know. And it wouldn't be so convicing if he said "Oh, I've heard that he transforms the dreamers into 'marens... That's what I've heard.".
If he just pretends to have known him for a while, then that makes it easier for Elliot to believe in Reala's lie... Or so we hope. o.o

And I'm still pondering about the part where they seem to have never met before.
In the manual or some other place with the character's bios from the NiD game, they refer to both as 1st level marens, right ?
Now I'm thinking that, if Reala only appeared after NiGHTS rebeled, as some kind of substitute of him, created shortly after the rebellion, and contradicting the "brothers" theory where it is said that they knew each other a long time before NiGHTS turned "good"... Maybe they had never actually met before that. Only because Reala was created to substitute NiGHTS AFTER his rebellion. o.o Thus, the part in the book where they first meet.

Great. I just now eleminated all of the NiD member's beliefs. All the work spent to recreate the story, and only 5 minutes of pondering to ruin it all...

PS.: It's merely a theory, btw, because I don't really know why does the fanbase always say that Reala and NiGHTS have met each other for a long time. Maybe there's something I don't know that supports what the fanbase says.

I think the old Japanese bio for Reala explains that NiGHTS is his rival therefore they must have known eachother in the past. I don't think Reala was created to replace NiGHTS.

Anyways, i don't think this is the official game story word-for-word but simply a story for a book. Kinda like how Archie had it's own version of events in that comic ....only not as depressingly bad.

I don't think that's exactly how it was meant to be taken; I think Reala was signifying that he was talking to the boy merged with NiGHTS, then tells him that NiGHTS is a maren just like the beasts that scare him. I also believe that Reala, in the context of this story, may have come into existence after NiGHTS's revolt.

I agree that this contradicts with JoD's storyline, but this was written long before then. ..... So why doesn't JoD follow this storyline? Well, only the developers would know that, but I'm guessing the most likely one would be 'it's a new story'. Why call it a sequel if it's a restarting, though? Is there a word for restarting in Japanese? Oo;

That "theory" I mencioned above was mostly a post that should go to "JoD random thoughts" topic, because I don't really believe in what I said. Was more a random thought other then a real theory.
I actually don't really think Reala was suposed to be his substitute. And I agree, that book seems to be more of a story will all those new details just to make it look prettier other then to tell us the what really happened.

Now, we can forget my silly "theory", because I need to go see that new footage. @.@

When Elliot regained consciousness, he found himself at the top of a cliff. The wind was freezing. Elliott was unable to do anything but wrap his arms around his knees. In order to withstand the cold and loneliness, he bit his lips hard. NiGHTS.......how could NiGHTS possibly be a Nightmaren?

"Elliot, can you hear me?"

It was NiGHTS! After a moment, Elliot told himself to restrain his joy.

"I've been locked up somewhere, where I can't move. There's no key, so I can't open it. I need your help."

When Elliot said nothing, NiGHTS lapsed into silence. Only 'byuo byuo' could be heard; just the sound of the wind. Unable to stand the silence any longer, Elliot opened his mouth first.

"Are you really a Nightmaren?"

"Yes," NiGHTS' voice and feelings were cheerful as he answered. "But, do you need to know why I was called that? I'm Mr. NiGHTS. What else is necessary?"

Elliot looked up at emptiness. Under his feet the cliff shook. Thus was Nightopia rapidly being engulfed by Nightmare. ...NiGHTS and I, we are fighting to protect Nightopia. Besides, most of all, I liked NiGHTS before. So really, what more is necessary?

"NiGHTS, I'll help you. What's the best thing to do?"

I thought as much. NiGHTS grinned broadly and laughed.

"You have conquered fear. This deep darkness, it shows the fear that haunts your heart. Dive into the darkness, Elliot. Then you can find a solution."
"Solution?"

Elliot peered carefully through the darkness at the bottom of the cliff. Down below was nothing but profound darkness. Gulp. Elliot's body trembled with nervousness.
"Just as I thought, it's no good."
"Idiot! That red light is still with you, I hope!"
"Red light...!?"
At that moment, the sound of a flute reached in Elliot's ears. The clear timbre of an invisible flute being played. This sound stirred thoughts of peaceful times in Nightopia, visiting that lovely world, that beautiful World of Dreams.
"My dream, mine..." Elliot clenched his fists tightly.
"I do believe in NiGHTS. I believe in me."
Elliot held his breath, and jumped into the thick darkness!
Just like with the two of them, he was suspended by a wondrous form of gravity. Elliot realized that he, himself, was flying through the air. He, by himself. Elliot, by his own power.
A breeze hit his cheek. The breeze should have been cold. But it didn't feel like that, instead the air felt warm.

In all seriousness thought, I think this has a much simpler and nicer story to it than JoD .
Hope the rest of the crew don't mind if I sticky this ? It seems it's forever sinking.

"Impossible!" Reala's voice rang out. Elliot's form was enveloped in red light. This red light outlined trails that seemed to flow. "It's impossible! This guy, possessing the red light!?"
The red light shot towards Reala at terrific speed.
"Uwaaah!"
Reala vanished in a puff of smoke, and the lock on the pagoda that NiGHTS had been imprisoned in opened. NiGHTS took flight. The red light glowed on an even grander scale.

"Fools... such fools..." Reala's voice faded out.
"Imagine, something like that was trying to beat you while we were separated from me."
"...NiGHTS, I..."
"You flew. You flew by yourself. You, yourself, found the solution."
"Yeah."
NiGHTS made a few circles with Elliot, but felt that they were being tricked. I'm Mr.Stylish when it comes to doing things, but we sent that guy off too easily, didn't we? Suddenly an enormous black shadow blocked their path.

I am also very curious to know if this book is the same as the one that will be given out with the Nights Dream Pack DX?
