Well with Zelda: Majora's Mask being released on Virtual Console today, I decided to open a thread where we could discuss this great game. Personally I even prefer it over Ocarina of Time, because it feels much more alive and likeable, and was a really unique part of this series.

I wish I had a Wii! It's one of my friend's favorite Zelda games and also the only Zelda game I do not own (excluding everything post-Wind Waker).

I'm off the internet for a week, and this is what happens. Gosh, I didn't even know Majora's Mask was going to be released on Virtual Console, though I expected it'd happen eventually. This makes me happy. ^-^ I've heard a lot of great things about this game, and I never had a chance to play it before. But I should probably finish Ocarina of Time first...

To this day I maintain Majora's Mask to be the peak of the Zelda series. All those people who bitch about the three day limit are morons. Either they're too stupid to learn the Scarecrow Song variations or they just don't get that you're supposed to feel a sense of urgency in what you do. Despite that, three days is plenty to get business done.

I totally agree with you. No other Zelda game managed to suck me so deep into the plot. It's a really brilliant and unique game, and I don't know even a single flaw in it. Sure, they recycled some character models from OoT but still, every person lives its own life in this game so who cares anyways.

I have a new N64 emulator on my laptop, and I tried to download Majora's Mask, and I was sad that it was a broken hack. I was sad. But, if it's being released on the Virtual Console....! ^^

On a NiGHTS related note, does anyone feel that the Zora Link was inspired by NiGHTS? Look at how he swims and does tricks. I swear its exactly like NiGHTS after getting a trick ribbon! Miyamoto has admitted in the past about loving niGHTS and wishing he made it so it may be a slightly obscure homage to it.

MM was the one game that slightly creeped me out as a kid. With a dark atmosphere (even more so than TP in my opinion) and a frantic feeling of needing to get things done quick, it made my heart beat so fast as those final minutes ticked by on the night of the third day. Heck, even the music was right on the third day, driving my ten year-old self to run and roll through wherever I was to get something done before resetting time. And those side quests... I nearly flipped out at the end of the Anju/Kafei side quest when nothing was happening as I waited around...aside from the moon about to destroy everything of course.

There may be people that complain about not enough backstory. But it's there! Maybe there's isn't a lot of knowledge on the Skulkid, Majora's Mask, or that other final mask you can earn, but there is info on Termina's people. The side quests will tell you that there's more to your journey than just going after a mask. You're reuniting a couple, stopping a thief, taking care of last requests, saving a girl from being lobotomized, resolving a complicated situation with the Mayor of Clocktown, relieving a long-ignored soldier, and tons more. It gives you the sense that there's more on Link's shoulders than just a promise he made as a Deku. He's got a unfamiliar land full of unique individuals he must prevent from meeting a rather disturbing demise.

That music when you turn on the game...pure nostalgia and enjoyment on my Wii.

Majora's Mask is the olny Zelda game that I haven't really gotten in to, which is odd since masks are my favourite aspects of OoT. However, I just got the Zelda Collector's Edition for Gamecube, so 'll revisit it once I complete Ocarina of Time. More to come as I try it again!

I have not played it personally though but I have seen it in action. I think why it's so good it was a nice change of pace for the series that worked. It combined elements from the previous game that were good and put in a storyline that didn't involve zelda or ganon and still you liked it and I thought that the whole time limit and moon crashing into the city thing was unique too.

MM is still one of my favorite Zeldas. Luckily, I have it on 64 so I don't have to buy it again.

EDIT: Lenneth, the reason the characters look the same is that Termina is parallel to Hyrule, but you probably knew that.

I've been playing MM, and I love it. Sure, it was tricky at first, but now that I have the hang of it, it's not that bad. I was startled to find that verything except major items vanishes if you travel back in time, and my game randomly decided to unpause, but in all, it's great. I'm so glad that my beloved masks have been elaborated upon, and the gold skulltulas being confined to a single house is much less overwhelming.

Favourite Character: Kafei. Kafei is love.

Innotech: The Zora Mask does make Link a lot like NiGHTS, especially with the twirly move.
