Watchmen

Did anyone go to see the new Watchmen movie? It came out Friday.
I heard it was VERY close to the original book, down to nearly every detail, but that the ending was a little rushed. My friend went to see the movie yesterday and she's going in Imax sometime later this week, and I bought a paperback version of the Graphic Novel for $20 yesterday.
I also heard that Rorschach was perfect in the way he was portrayed. I personally thought so.
For those of you that want to see it, it's about 3 hours long: so brace yourself!

I would've liked to have gotten through the rest of the comic before hand, but I let my friend borrow it to read and he hasn't gotten all the way through it yet.. leaves me with the eternal debate, see it or read THEN see it.

But extremely violent. And it has... adult situations, to be nice about it. Don't bring little kids to go see it with you, that's about all I've got to say on that matter.
But besides the gore and sex, the character developement and plot are pretty good, the idea behind the plot is awesome, and though the ending isn't quite the happiest, it is all over a good movie.
I suggest seeing it, but be careful who you bring.
Note- I haven't read the graphic novel, just seen the movie, so I can't say squat on that matter.

But yeah, it's rated R so definitely not something you want to bring younger kids to. There's also a lot of scenes in the graphic novel that aren't too violent, but are still emotionally troublesome like
AHAHA, i lol'd. Yeah. 3 hours is nothing after you sit through a lot of 'epic films' :B.Definitely a movie I'm planning on going to see very soon. 3 hours is nothing after going to see all the Lord of the Rings movies, hah.

I also have slight interest in seeing the comic-to-episodic version of the book that was released awhile back.

Anyway, I'm hoping to avoid the movie because it seems disrespectful to Alan Moore, even if it was created to be as "true" as possible. Just pointing a camera at re-creations of the comic seems a little pointless, doesn't it? I also don't really like how everyone now refers to Watchmen as a "book" or a "novel" (or even "graphic novel" which is pretty much just a marketing term) instead of a comic. It's the high-art/low-art divide I'm not a fan of?
But if the movie gets people reading Alan Moore and turns people on to brilliant ideas and high standards of writing, then that is good. If folks are inspired to create their own works that are of equally high caliber, than that is excellent.

Well, I just don't think the movie will be any good. And... I refer to all comics as books. Though, the other day someone tried to convince me that Watchmen was never a serialized comic.I like Moore's dialog but I'll admit that it can be clunky at times. I found that especially the case in his "1963" miniseries.

For instance, I see Dr Manhatten's speech as a little bit more void of emotion (not by much, as it is obvious that he isn't emotionless) and a bit more technical and even proper than everyone elses, while Dan/Nite Owl's is a bit more... nerdy, for lack of a better term :P. And I also see Ozymandias as being more proper and trim in his style of speech. It's a bit subtle for all the characters, personally.
Also, I always refer to Watchmen as a Graphic Novel because that's generally how most people read it now, opposed to comic edition, as well as the fact that it won Time's "Best 100 Novels" award as a... well, Graphic Novel novel xD;;.

Same. I hear Tales of the Black Freighter is coming out in a few days; a friend of mine who works at a rental store already has a copy of it.
