Hey guys. Some of you may or may not know this, but I have a radio show once every week where I do nothing but talk about video games. Well, in celebration of the release of Street Fighter IV, I'm having a special Street Fighter show next week and I'd like to get you guys in on it.
I'm basically looking for some random thoughts on SF that I can share on the air. Just tell me any random thought about your experiences with Street Fighter. Say who you like to use, wax nostalgic, complain about how you think Honda is a cheap bastard or just talk about that one time at the arcade, whatever. If you write a comment here or PM me what you want to say I will read it on the air.
I'll even take a hint from this site's Podcast. If you want to go a step further I'd, you can even record an audio clip of you talking about the same kind of things. Or, if you prefer, you can tune in to my show from the site linked in the thread about my program in general (below this one) and call the station yourself. The show is at 5:00 pm central time.
Lets make this show awesome. I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say.

This'll sound funny, but it's true.. in Chun Li's original SFII sprites, did it look to anyone else like in her victory dance her costume sort of 'melts away' in her chest area? Best sprite set I can find for reference is here.. http://sdb.drshnaps..../SF2/ChunLi.gif
Just something I picked up on.. *cough* I'll try to compile some more thoughts about my #1 favorite fighting series ever.

You know, I didn't understand what you meant at first but after looking at that sprite sheet, you're right. The detailing on her chest area during her winning-dance animation seems to 'melt away'. You can just make out a nipple on that thing........ hello!
I do have two memorable stories, which you can choose to share on your radio show if you deem them ok and neccessary.
First story is where i had actually heard of Street Fighter 2 for the first time. I was 6 years old on a summer holiday to some random Turkish seaside area. And when i mean random i mean literally out in the middle of NOWHERE somewhere on the coastline of Turkey. Like, nothing but a mountain, the coastline and a few houses that apparently meant it was a village.
Well, one night me and my cousin are walking around this isolated place and come across this shanty hut down the side of this persons house and in there was a Street Fighter 2 arcade machine! XD I swear to god, back then as a kid i just noticed the shed had game-cabinets in there and thought it was like every other arcade...but honestly looking back at it all now i realize how far Street Fighter travels. This village was in the middle of nowhere and some dude and his shed housed a Street Fighter 2 arcade cabinet. He also had Captain Comando in there but i didn't play it.
My cousin had heard of Street Fighter 2 but i was new to it. I didn't know what it was. We got some money from our fathers and played it in that smelly shed. I picked Guile since he had the funky hair and i thought it looked cool. XD
Street Fighter is THAT well know, you could find it in a shed in an isolated village on the coast of Turkey. lol.
The other story is me and my friends, during Super Street Fighter 2's release, often had competition matches to see who would win. The prize? - the winner could go to school the following week and say they were dating Cammy! lol The fact that she was British and wore less clothes than ChunLi had all the guys i knew at school crushing on her so Street Fighter matches were held in order to see who would be allowed to 'date' Cammy the following week. Lol, i dunno how it all worked as i never won but the winner would just come in to school the following week saying "Cammy's my girlfriend!" and all the other boys would get jealous because of it.
Childish sh!t like that is crazy! XD .....though i've just realised i've made it sound like Cammy is a ho' in this comment so be careful how you read this one on air, Zero, lol XD
...actually, i have a few more stories thinking about it.
The Super Street Fighter 2 sticker book was released in the UK and my school went completely CRAZY for it. Everybody i knew had the book and were collecting stickers, even the girls in our class who didn't play computer games. They just wanted to collect it because the artwork was cool and they liked some of the characters. Once again, all the boys were NOT TRADING their Cammy stickers because they cherished them so much. Even having a double on a Cammy sticker, they wouldn't trade them meaning if you managed to collect every Cammy sticker and filled up her pages in the book you had every guy in the class getting jealous of you, lol.
Such rivalry, my god.
Lol, when we found out M.Bison and Cammy had something going on all the boys went batshit insane. All the boys hated M.Bison for a long time because of it, lol. XD
Another story was when the god awful Street Fighter Movie came out. I was 11 when it went on the big screen in the UK however the film was rated 12 so i went to the cinema and lied about my age just to see the film. The dude behind the till actually asked me when my birth date was and i lied on the spot and somehow managed to make him believe i was old enough to see the movie. It was the first movie i ever snuck in to/lied about my age to see. At the time, i thought i was bad, lol. I told all my friends i'd lied to get in and see the film and they were all annoyed that they couldn't go and see it. NOW looking back on how terrible the movie was, i think it's something i should be quite ashamed of. The things we brag about as kids. Deary me.
Wow. Four stories in total there. I didn't think Street Fighter had such a huge part in my life but it obviously has, especially as a kid, lol XD
Thanks for this, Zero. It was nice to reflect on my past a bit there. I remembered things i had forgotten about.
I encourage everybody who cares a bit about Street Fighter to share something for this topic. It's quite interesting to see other peoples connections to the game.
o.o;; (good god, that was a long post)

I first discovered Street Fighter II and Sonic 2 on the same day. I was living in New Jersey and went to a friend's house who apparently came from a wealthy family -- he had both an SNES and Genesis. I was either six or seven years old and sadly, I don't even remember who the kid was but both video games left a great impression on me. You could play as some crazy dude who could kick you from across the screen? Or some green dude who turns ELECTRIC? How does that even make sense?
I then went for a while without playing Street Fighter. I became a hardcore Mortal Kombat kid. However, I went back to both games and found that Street Fighter II really is the superior game. I used to play Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold for Saturn every day after high school for quite a while. I've never really become a "Street Fighter master", I never even had people to play against, I have a great fondness for the series.
In college, I discovered the Street Fighter pen and paper role playing game, strangely put out by the company responsible for goth RPGs like Vampire: The Masquerade/Requiem. I sadly never found enough other people willing to play but the book is one of the treasures of my RPG collection. It's a pretty solid system for a solidly cheesy experience.
This isn't really about me but a story worth sharing nontheless:
There is a self described "Nintendo punk" band called 14 Year Old Girls. The story behind this name is that they were originally called The Legend of Link and the Zeldas but put their name on the line in a Street Fighter II tournament. They lost and had to use their current name.

Also, although they don't have any of their lyrics containing anything about Street Fighter whatsoever, this band have named themselves after Ryu and Ken's fireball.
Hadouken! - That Boy That Girl
They're a UK Indie band that has aspects of Urban rap/grime attached to them. Anyways, i know this has NOTHING to do with the show but i just thought i'd throw this in here since this topic is about Street fighter and how it has had some form of impact in our lives - this band obviously took it in to their own lives by naming themselves after the special move.

Ok, some more thoughts - I think I can easily say I was attracted to Street Fighter II pretty much the first time I saw it. I can think of no other candidate for my favorite arcade game of all time, hands down (and subsequently the game I'd always look for at an arcade would be the latest Capcom fighting game). The cast of characters was so cool to me, notably characters like Blanka, what with his green skin and electric powers. And the skeletal shock impact animation was just so cool. Chun Li was the pretty one, with a good mix of speed and strength and I loved rocking the lightning kick (I've always been a fast button-tapper, lol). I liked MK and such, but SF was always where it was at for me, for every reason; the characters, the look, the mechanics, the music. Capcom really hit it right out of the park and instantly crowned themselves kings of the fighting genre for all time.
