Everyone has a place/country/scene/view they've visited, lived or seen in their lifetime that they regard to be amazing, beautiful or near perfect.

What do you consider to be the most special to you and why?

Real places only please, lol.

Local attractions, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the American Museum of Natural History in New York are among my favorite public places. I've been back time and time again since I was a kid. I can always rely on a trip to the garden to relieve stress and have a nice time outside. Even though it's right in the middle of town once you're 'in', all the city's rumblings fade away. No matter how many times I visit the museum the exhibits never get old. You can easily keep coming back and having a fun time just being there. Plus the live butterfly exhibit they've been doing for a few years now is quite awesome.

For me, I think it would have had to been Austin, Texas when I was going to cooking school. Right behind the apartment complex was a forest of sorts, and it was just beautiful. Actually, the whole city was beautiful. The people there know how to take care of their city, and it was just overall friendly, unlike where I am now. If I could, I would return there and possibly live there. It has a nice mix of culture, something is always going on, and if you really felt like it, you could practically walk a couple miles to get to the mall, shopping center, and even about half a dozen restaurants.

Now I really wanna go back.

My family went on a trip to Europe back in 2004 and we visited Germany during some of this time. I don't remember exactly where it was (I didn't pay attention to much of anything back then because I didn't care), but we were up in some mountains and the scenery was the most beautiful I've ever seen. The steep ground was covered with healthy green grass and dotted with bright flowers. There were many trees, too. The air I think pleased me the most. It was the cleanest smelling/tasting (if that makes any sense) air I've ever breathed. It was like a place out of a fairytale or Heidi's mountain.

As long as the sky remains gray and the weather is foggy I'm a happy camper. Throw in a few decaying trees and that's a bonus in my book.

On second thought I think that just being alone makes me happy.

I can think of two places - Aledo is one. It's a little town in western Illinois where my grandpa lives. We've had family in the area for a long, long time so there's always a lot of fun memories to come back to. And the sky at night is really neat, there's no big cities around so you can see a lot of stars. I've got some pictures of my grandpa's place, though it really doesn't look like the rest of the town -
http://whirlwynd.dev...-Valley-7917868
http://whirlwynd.dev...-Waters-7855814

The other place is Estes Park in Colorado. It's a tourist trap right next to Rocky Mountain National Park. The scenery is amazing and there's so much to do there - I loved going up to the tundra in the park. I didn't get to go up there last time because it snowed like a foot over two days - and this was August. =( But now that I've got an extra week of vacation this year I might go back -

..You know, after much thought..

Originally I was going to say anywhere in Northern California, especially mountains or the redwood forest, but when it boils down..

It's got to be the last place I spent the last good quality time with my parents before they divorced. We went to a place called Marblehead in Ohio. To me, as a kid, it was the most untainted and perfect place ever. We stayed in a little cottage in a community of other cottages somewhere off of the main drag that went through town. I can't remember the name or the route, but I'm hellbent to get back there some day.
We spent a little more than a week... the cottage smelled odd, a good kind of odd, kind of that unoccupied and semi-fresh laundry combination. I stayed in an odd room with kind of scratchy sheets in that avocado green shade.. but we were right by a pretty big lake where we'd go fishing until the sun went down, catching blue gill and perch until it was too dark and the mosquitoes bit too much. We'd watch a bunch of flocks of birds migrate to whatever islands over on Lake Erie they'd stay at.. it was magical.
We brought the Sega Genesis with us since we were staying for a while. My parents rented some games, Phantasy Star IV and III to be specific.. my dad and i later ended up buying IV for $100.. frillin' crazy, I know.. but, the city music for Aiedo (and other cities, but I remember it first from Aiedo) nearly makes me cry a little every time I hear it. It would've been the perfect backing soundtrack to our time there in that little city.

My time living in Alaska has cemented the notion that the best places are cold, snowy, mountainous areas. It wasn't without its problems, but I loved Anchorage, especially on winter. Frigid weather, and the fact it was dark for over half the day were great to begin with, but there were other perks. The city had some nice hangouts. The wildlife was beautiful. Watching moose park it and chill in your yard was always good for a laugh. One time on a drive I saw Beluga Whale migrating while doll sheep were perched on a rock face overlooking the estuary. In winter, conditions were right for rime frost to form on all the plants. As a result, all the forests looked like they were filled with plants made of crystal.

Later in spring I took a boat trip at the Kenai Peninsula and watched Porpoise race our boat into harbor were the otters were enjoying a meal. I've seen a glacier up close and they are such a deep shade of blue it's almost unnatural looking. The best part of it though were the mountains. There are no words to describe how it feels to wake up every morning and be greeted by mountains in the distance with the sun beating on their peaks making the snow glitter like diamonds. The greatest was McKinley. To see that behemoth peer above the horizon and know just how far Denali is from Anchorage. I don't think I've ever felt so at peace as when I was living in Alaska.

I like my bedroom because its the only place in the house where I can get any real privacy and talk to my fiance without anyone bugging me about who I'm talking to. I've always loved my room, no matter where it is at. Its a refuge for me. A place to get away from the insanity and cruelty that is my life. In that place, I feel safest and most comfortable.

In the middle of this town's forest there's a quarry with a small lake next to it. I like to sit on top of the cliff while watching the waterfall going into the lake and listen to the sound of water. Especially in warm summer nights it's so relaxing~. Oh and the swing next to the school thats also near the forest has to be one of my favorite places as well, you have a really good look at the starry sky from there.

Yosimite National Park in California. Absolutely gorgeous, with waterfalls everywhere you turned, thick trees, and of course, Al Capitan (not sure how you spell it. It's a giant, sheer rock face, though.) My dad and I went on a hike there, but we forgot water bottles like the fools we were. So, we ended up drinking from a natural spring. All I have to say about that is... TAKE THAT, BOTTLED WATER!
I suggest going if you ever can.
Other than that, Hawaii's pretty cool. Unfortunately, I'm not really a big fan of tropical fruit, and that's about all they had. And in Honolulu, milk was eight bucks a gallon.

Mmmmm... I've always loved the hustle and bustle of large cities. I love hanging out in downtown Reno, by the river. :D

I also LOVE San Fransisco. The city has a certain feel to it I adore. I don't know if it's the fact that there's ocean, (OMG WATER! ... I grew up in a desert... Okay? ¬_¬) or the fact it's a large city, or what... but I always love it when I visit there. (I'd love to move there.)

I've always loved forests. I'm not sure why but maybe due to the silence, smell (Exept where there's poop :) ) or the colour (My favorite colour is green and plants are green. ) I love nature in general.

Louisville, Kentucky. I love staying at my aunt's house in the summer. I love the farmer's market, hiking in Cherokee park, and staying at my uncle's building, where I would play guitar hero all day. It is just a pleasant place, with cool, bohemian shops and lovely weather.

As far as my home country of the States in concerned, I adore the place I live (backwoods Mississippi) because it's filled with so many little forestry places that make you feel like you're in some sort of work of fiction. There's also the Dallas-Fort Worth area over in Texas, which I also adore for its simple city feeling. Not to mention things being right where you need them.

However, since I have itchy feet to the EXTREME, I have to say that I have a crush on Tokyo, especially the little quiet living areas of it. Little roads and back alley feeling streets where people pack out their tiny, tiny yards or balconies with potted plants. It combines both nature and city all into one and made me feel a bit at home. I'd like to go farther north into the country to see more places like Kyoto.

Theres this huge old tree I would do everything by, draw, eat lunch, read, listen to music, hang out with some friends etc. There was a little park by there too and sometimes I would swing on the swings, facing the other way to deliberately look at the tress as the sun sets. I felt like I had a bonding relationship with the tree no joke, I felt energies near it and I got into Druidry as time went by so I would practice some stuff around it on it, it was MY tree and my friends even considered it so. One day it was just a 10 foot stump, I cried so bad I was so in shock, then after a week they cut it to a stump,. I saved a piece of bark from it, I'm over it now (its been a year) and they replanted a new tree. Had to have been 300 years old. I took a few pics of it over time and theres always one distinct large white orb around it. I plan to keep the new tree company.

It doesn't seem that this topic is used but I'll post anyways and say a speical place for me was Mertal Beach in South Carolina. It was beautiful with it's clear skies ,and beaches! I loved running down the beach in my bathingsuit with the Alantic Ocean at my feet and the sun warming me up...Ok I'm awake. It was fun to go to the carnivel at night although the rickity Farris Wheel was a little scary.

I love caverns. Wet ones that are still in the process of forming, especially. I have no particular cavern that I love more than another. I love the smell and the ambiance of caves. I wish they didn't have electricity and all threaded through them and concrete and railings, but... It still manages to awe me. Every time.

There are a few other places, but that's the first that comes to mind.

I'll have to post a picture from my photobucket later, but as of right now, my favorite place (besides my room) is this beautiful little center called Quarry Lake in the Greenspring area. Besides having some awesome restaurants, a Maggie Moo's, Starbucks, and a good chunk of other stuff, the place is absolutely stunning to look at and walk around in Spring and Summer. There's obviously a huge lake because it used to be an actual quarry, before the quarry shut down and the land was bought for housing development and commercial building (there's also two medical centers on the site, maybe that's another reason I enjoy it is because I know I'm safe as my doctor is right there, haha). The houses are fantastic, and they almost overhang right by the water. There's a sidewalk almost the whole way around, a gazebo (yes, that's right, you NiGHTS fanatics) and a patch where some of the quarry rock still is that you can climb on. I've been there at both day and night, in rain and sun, and climbing the rocks at sunset after a great meal with some friends....well, it's pretty blissful. Walking in the rain there is fantastic too, and since it's still tucked away and not as popular an area as some of the other "town centers" around Baltimore, it's not ever that crowded. There's even a pool right by there for people who live in the development. I guess I just can't say enough about the place. It isn't like there aren't prettier places to go, but it just means a lot to me.

O_O it just hit me, cause I gotta go to the doc's today to get a prescription, I'll have to take some pictures of what it's like in the snow! Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face.

And now I have some pictures:

In the center-middle-leftish area is where you can see the snow-covered extra rock pieces.

On the far-right is the gazebo. You can also kinda see the pool area on the left, where those step-layers are.

Posted Image
Better shot of the gazebo.

Posted Image
In early spring

Posted Image
In full-blown summer. Easier to see the gazebo and again kinda where the pool is.

Posted Image
Just full of happy.

Two friends and myself are climbing those rocks I mentioned earlier. After a wonderful dinner it was awesome to just explore like kids again. You can see to the right the general area where I took the rest of the pictures from across the lake.

Wow... That's...so awesome 99... I live near the friggin' highway and the most peaceful place I can reach is a mini-park like place that isn't even a park. It's three benches near a small, gated sandbox. Still, it's better than nothing.

My favorite place...well it's a tie. There's Bass Lake in California and a place I know over in Atascadero. ;) Family and more nature than you can shake a fish at. Although I have to admit, when visiting the latter for the first time, we found a bat flying around a cabin. Apparently it had been there a while. o_O I don't have any pictures, unfortunately, of either place.

Maaaan, soo many places I want to check out now..! I don't think I've ever been in a real cavern, now that I think of it.. XD

There are a few general places I enjoy - exploring the badlands and hoodoos of Drumheller, wandering through little downtown shops as a metropolis buzzes around your little pocket of the world, walking across a bed of moss sheltered by trees in the mountains, gazing up a waterfall and feeling the cool, glacier-fed spray on your face...

But I can think of three specific places that bring me unmitigated joy! :3

One - is by the little harbor in California Adventure, Disneyland. There's a spot on the boardwalk where you can look out over the midway, see the rides and hear the gentle hum of activity everywhere, but right across the way is an old mill, and beneath you in the water, there's usually a family of ducks paddling by. Add sunshine and a gentle breeze...

Two - watching the dolphins relaxing at Seaworld, San Diego. I love dolphins (blame Ecco for that! XD), and watching them rest and play is simply delightful! I'd love to see them in a big cove by the ocean, but that's the closest I've come to the experience, and I'll always treasure it.

Three - a spot by Lake Michigan. My boyfriend lead me up this HUGE sand dune, and when we finally reached the top.. it was like an ocean of treetops, as far as the eye can see! We sat up there for the better part of an hour, just talking and laughing, and we even had a little picnic. Hawks flying overhead, and not another soul to be seen for ages. Absolutely peaceful. <3

I seriously needed this topic today! XD Thanks for sharing guys! Now I get to go to bed happy! :3

Most snowy locations in the middle of the night out in a quiet location away from the cities... when the moon and stars would shine on the snow making everything seem just abit brighter... with the lazy drift of snowfall being the only thing that moves. All while the world seems so silent you can almost hear every drop of snow hit the ground.
Wrapped up in something warm and cozy, not too many buildings, some evergreen trees...
I'm getting sleepy thinking about it... I need to take a nap...

Agreed, to both of these.

Also, I love the amusement park near me, my city, and the park in my hometown. I basically live 2 minutes away by car from it. It's just so nice sometimes. It's very big, and has old houses and pavilions all through it, as well as hiking paths galore. Also there's a really pretty pond and fields where I spend my entire summers playing ultimate freesbe with my friends and just walking... yeah.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude..........

Those pictures are AWESOME. I'm a coaster-nut and now I really really really wanna go. Last couple of parks I went to were terrible! They don't even have to be epic coasters, just good ones. Even old-fashioned ones. I'm definitely a tad jealous. Also, major props for any park that has a game/attraction/booth/whatever called "The Potato Patch". Potatoes rock. That's right, I said potatoes rock. They rock hardcore.
