And just WHAT the hell is that thing at the top centre of Reala's texture palette???
Put it away, you dirty boy!
Oh wait, it's his fingers. I see it now. Honest. >.>
Great work on extracting these. Much appreciated.
As for any remains of the 'old' NiGHTS in there, with the Ideya Captures. We went through this before, SEGA had it in their minds that they wanted to do it differently from the start (this was why me and TRiP were worried about the game to begin with and why we went ahead and made those projects). Sad but true
The chances of finding anything from the old game are slim and if we do find anything it will probably be on the basis that it was used for reference work rather actually incorporating those features into the game.

A LURKER APPEARS
Oh man, I haven't been here in ages, but TRiP posted a link to this on her old dA, that I still watch, and I COULD NOT RESIST.
JESUS TAPDANCING CHRIST ON A STICK SEGA WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I just KNEW they left stuff out, but not this much!
zomg. TT_TT
Thanks a ton for revealing this to us, Kent. The story seems just that much deeper now. I really want to know more about the 'Nightmare Tower' thing...And yeah, it does seem that NiGHTS has only just started to rebel..Hm.

And my guess about the cut scenes? Well, i like to think it might have something to do with "dumbing down" the whole thing. Sega has been paying a lot of attention to their new major fanbase, and surely they must realise that a lot of their fanbase really can't take much more then small burts of info at a time (explaining why all the bloody training missions are seperate missions then stuck together in one bloody level...), and that, generally speaking, a slow, easy, and uninformative script is really all they can process in thier heads. I hate to be a stereotypical Sega-Basher here, but just take a look at Sonic in recent years- Dumbed down to the point that it's borderline retarded.
...
Either that, or i'm just cynical, and it was due to time constraints. Who can say?
In either case, i think it can be said all of these finds prove NiGHTS JoD could've been much better then it turned out to be, but once again, It just wasn't to be. Interesting finds regardless.

Hmm....I wonder if the finds were cut for a reason...
Being a Disney dweeb, I am always reading about new rides, movies, theme parks, etc. Disney has in production. I also read about what might have been. For example, a "Museum of the wierd" featuring crazy ghost-infested gypsy carts and living furniture. It sounds cool, but was incorporated into the Haunted Mansion, a wildly popular, brilliant attraction. Walt kneww it wouldn't work on it's own.
So, perhaps sega cut the scenes for a reason. I doubt that they were all video game nazi "NO

More likely they never got around to making them. Though the ones associated with the races were probably cut along at the same time as the races.
It explains why two player is racing instead of battles... (That always bothered me for some reason)

I'd like to spend some time with the .brmdl files and see if I can figure out what type of 3d model format they used.
I thought so too. It turns out there's a completely separate folder (event\common\) and within it there are some slightly larger textures, still not that big but a bit more detail in them.Man, those are some awfully low-resolution textures. Practically Saturn quality if I had to guess.
Here are some of the pics I was extracting today just to see what they were. I'm not sure if these were the screenshots released to the media, or if these were used somewhere in the game, or if they're just on the disc for no reason, but there's some cool pics in there.
These are the textures used on the ground in My Dream.

I'm pretty sure those are some of the images in the background of the Sound Test! Excellent finds, keep these coming!

Also, those images i think were taken from the soundtest page or at least some of them were.
Great work, man! This is good stuff!

Actually, some of the files are compressed, some are not. For example take a look at the value at the offset 0xC4: if it's 01, then the first file is compressed. But I did manage to decompress them. All the subtitles are stored in compressed files (in the "message" folder).Kentilan, I'm not sure if you've spent any more time with the .one files, but they're weird. I don't believe they are compressed, just single files that are later combined together or something. When I look at each of them in a Hex editor you can figure out what type of file is within it. I was able to find some .brtex files within the .one files and all I had to do was remove the header that related to .one and then it was simply the same as an individual .brtex file.
Well apparently the program SSBExtract can convert them into .mdl0 files, then there's another program which can convert those in another format, but it crashes when I try to use it. I hope you'll have more luck.I'd like to spend some time with the .brmdl files and see if I can figure out what type of 3d model format they used.
Anyway, this is cool stuff charlie! It looks like in My Dream there are 5 different textures for the grass, plus the snow, and 5 textures for the rocks or mountains (now if only I had a mountain...)
And now that I can get a good look at that pink texture, I think it is somewhat disturbing...
It doesn't surprise me that they use different textures for the cutscenes and the gameplay. During the gameplay we usually don't get to see the characters closely.

once again great job uncovering this stuff guys.. we get a clearer picture of the game Sonic Team wanted to make. Also I'm sure all of these cut scenes were meant to be much prettier than they turned out, what with the intention of the PS3 and Xbox platforms. I mean, you can't blame management on Reala's new design, or certain other things, but certainly for all of this not making it in.

I hope that someone finds the Wizeman textures on the disc.
Would make for another excellent addition to my Unofficial NiGHTS Binder.
Here are the Wizeman textures from the folder "\event\common\wizeman\"
JoD_Wizeman_Textures.zip
EDIT: I think I'll post the textures from the other folder too, "\character\boss\wiseman\", because it might have more in it.
EDIT2: Turns out they are basically the same textures, just larger and split into separate files.

Charlie and Kentilan, you guys f*!*ing rock. I can't believe so much stuff was cut, it really does make me sad.
But this is exactly what this forum needed at the moment, it's got me old nostalgia juices running again : P.

Sure.
It's the first time I upload something else than pictures so I hope it'll work properly.
<a href="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BVTRYXPX" target="_blank">http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BVTRYXPX</a>
It's a zip file containing all the text files I extracted. The subtitles of the cutscenes are in the files whose name starts by 'E' ("EH" for Helen and "EK" for Will).
All files have text in Japanese first then in English.
Thanks a lot!! EH and EK.... interesting.
Piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!
And I love seeing Wizeman's textures. That makes me soooooo happy!

Shame NiGHTS alternative costume was removed completely. My guess is that if they only had one year to make the entire game from scratch for the Wii then having things in there that causes the game to crash probably wouldn't be a good thing even if it was to buried over. Looks like they removed all traces of it. Oh well
Great findings, never the less. Keep it up
