More server problems. I think I've finally managed to convince my friend to switch web hosts, though. We're going to discuss it tonight with the rest of the Side-Quest crew. If they decide to not continue with the site, I may look into buying the domain name from him and setting up an account on GoDaddy, or something.

More than likely, there will be enough interest between them to keep the site going (which is good, as I'd rather not have to pay the monthly fee for hosting, even if it is pretty cheap).

It's been hurting all of my games. This game doesn't require the site to be up to play, but most people don't know how to access it offline. Words That Follow, my picture captioning game, doesn't load off the site either, but the pictures to be captioned come from the Side-Quest server, not the game server running on my end. The Tetris clone runs entirely off the site (hopefully I've got a backup. Heheh).

Anyway, I'm thinking it will all be up again in a day or so.

I wonder if this is what I think it is? Darn my absensce. I came to late and now the link is dead. Oi! Oh well, with my dial up connection it probably would have taken way to long to download.

If this is the game I remember from a long time ago, I thought it was very nice. I loved the NiGHTS sprite used for it too. Plus I think it had a feature to where the background would change depending on the time of day according the computer clock. Right? It thought that was neat.

Nope. This is something else. I've only been working on this for a couple of months now. I've never seen the one you're talking about, but I like the idea of time-based backgrounds. I've done that in a couple of things I've made, just not this one.

I'll have the game up again soon so you can try it out and let me know what you think. :D

Drat! I came late too! >_< Hope this gets fixed real soon. :D

Oh, and is there anyway we can get a quick recap of what's needed for the game? I kinda and strapped for time right now. ^.^'

Does anyone want to make me a sprite for the 100 chain bonus item? Whatever it is, it should probably have the number "100" on it somewhere and needs to be 32x32 pixels in size. It's an item that can only be collected if your link count is >= 100, and it gets you 1000 points.

If you can think of an interesting way to animate it, that would be great, too (flashing, spinning, scrolling, etc).

I have one that I've made, but it's uninteresting and, honestly, pretty ugly.

If it's for the same reason as iPod and iMac then I know it's pointless

I have the near-latest build of the game on my old server, if anyone wants to see what I've been up to. I'm limited to 5mb of space, so the game doesn't have any music there, and the scores don't work either. You can see the new backgrounds and (incomplete) stages I've added, at least. Hopefully everything will be back up and running properly soon. If I had enough content to make my own site, I'd probably just buy my own domain and find a decent web host, but I just don't think my three games are really enough to warrent an entire website (and I'm unsure of how I'm going to afford rent this month as it is. Heheh).

Oh, and the applet link doesn't work right now. I'd fix it, but I'm not currently at home. I'll see if I can get it up later tonight, for those who still use it.

Here's the new (old) temporary (for now) address:

I'm very intrested in this project, and I'd love to become an active contributer to the artistic side of thigns. I can provide sprites (or scaled down animations, such as that ^. Pixel art can be so fussy sometimes.), Backgrounds, titlescreens.. whatever crosses your mind.

Wow! Yeah. That's really good. I think I'll use that.

As far as art goes, I'd eventually like to redo the stars since I am still using some upscaled ones I drew in Paint, originally as 16x16 (they are now 32x32 also). Hmm. A title screen featuring the character I drew with the title "Lucid Dreams" somewhere would be nicer than the current black intro screen I'm using, and anything else that anyone thinks they can improve upon.

In case you want a template, here's my current star sprite image:

Obviously, it's currently 4 frames of animation, but that's not set in stone.

Anything you want to contribute would be welcome. :P

Pretty much the same stuff I listed above. Oh, and a new image for the checkpoint. It doesn't have to look like an Ideya palace, but it can if that's what you feel like drawing.

Hey Chrono, I'll try to keep the first post updated with new links and stuff. I've put up both mirror for the game.

Yeah I like the new stages, though maybe different clouds for the Mountains and though I like the buildings, the colour scheme and window effects dont fit in with the other stages visually. But not a biggie, esepcially if you're doing more stages. I love the level design - and the new 100 link bonus is cool - though maybe make it a bit bigger?

For all the artists out there, if you compile a nice easy to follow list of things you want, with examples imbedded like you did with tehs stars, then start a new thread in the forum for submissions, or I can put it in the first post. Some might not be reading the whole thread and missing the chance (shame on them :P)

The game should be working at the side-quest.com address once again, meaning the music and high scores are functional. There is still a problem with the music sometimes not shutting off properly when you exit a stage, but I'll work on that later.

http://www.side-quest.com/sqgames/flight/

EDIT: Okay, so it seems I lied about high scores working before... but this time, really! They work! Also, I think I fixed the music problem... maybe. The Instructions button on the title screen now works, as well (it opens a browser window with the instructions linked from the launch page).

Well Floating Island is easily the best look level so far. i love all the designs (especailly the Air ship and the floating crystals) though it feels a bit 'busy' at the moment, maybe just 1/2 or 2/3 of whats theres, or all of it spread out a bit more. It needs space to breathe, and not all of the detail given away straight (maybe have the waterfall as the a last centre piece)

I find that the time/links counter get abit lost and hard to see - maybe increase the font size?

What format is best for any submitted designs? Is scanned art ok, or do you want it done with some art program?

Any luck with the paraloop graphics yet?

There's finally a new checkpoint image. It could probably use some animation or something, but I think it works for now. It doesn't quite fit with, say, the city stage, but I think it works for what I need. It certainly looks better than the Windows Paint attrocity I had there before. Heheh.

EDIT: Any suggestions for a sound effect for the 100 Chain bonus item? It's currently just the star pickup noise. It needs something a little... "meatier." Something more satisfying.

I think a bell chiming would lend itself quite nicely to that. Possibly a short series of bells, or just one high "ding!"

It looks better on the black intro screen, but yeah I love it. Maybe some sort of sub-title, but its a great font. Nice work.

I've finally gotten around to making the last two sections of the City of Twilight stage, so that's now three complete stages (or four if you count Marathon).

Work on the game slowed down a bit since recently I've been doing some much-needed updates to another one of my games (Words That Follow) and to the site in general.
