Buying a Wii

However, I can't really afford another console, but was thinking about selling my xbox 360 in favor of a Wii. I bought a 360 for Resident Evil 5, Tomb Raider installments, and one of the best games ever, Shenmue II.
I honestly believe its worth buying a Wii for NiGHTS. I even bought a gamecube just because I heard rumors that NiGHTS would appear on it (and I also bought it for Resident Evil games).
I figured if I bought a Wii i'll still get Resident Evil love which Umbrella Chronicles and the Wii Edition of Resident Evil 4. I'd be missing out on Resident Evil 5 though. Also, its possible shenmue III might appear on the xbox 360, but it's also very doubtful. As for tomb raider, I'd still have my PSP for the anniversary edition, but wouldn't be able to play Tomb Raider 8 (next gen). However, I might build a decent PC in the future, but who knows.
Well, I've been debating over a wii for a while now, I also haven't been able to find one all year. Could someone please tell me if its worth buying a Wii for mainly one game? I hunted for a saturn back in 2002 just to play this game. My first saturn ended up smoking out, so I actually ended up purchasing a new saturn for NiGHTS. I must say I'm glad I experianced NiGHTS.

I played some Warioware and Monkeyball tonight with friends in my anime club at college. Its a really fun system. Having NiGHTS JOD is just the icing on a very delicious cake. I bought the system long before I kew NiGHTS was coming. For once I have the right system to get the exact kinds of games I want.
Yeah I though Gamecube was just for me as well. I was always planning to buy a Wii but not until June because the only opening title I wanted was Twilight Princess and thats wouldn't hold me off until then when I could just get it on Gamecube. So I might get it as my graduation present. For some reason I thought Sonic and the Secret Rings came out in June but I think I just got dates mixed up, but that was another reasons I why I wanted to wait.

I have:
Wii sports
Rapala fishing (for Dad)
Zelda:TP
Warioware
Excite Truck
Elebits (Eledees for PAL)
Sonic and the Secret Rings (Its actually NOT a bad game, and its quite challenging)
Super Paper Mario
Red Steel
I preordered these:
NiGHTS JOD
Mario and Sonic @ Olympics
Dewey's Adventure
Mario Party 8
Boogie
I would also like to preorder Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, SSBB, Treasure Island z, and MySims but they arent available yet.
So yeah this system really is interesting to me and the games starting to come out for it are VERY exciting for me.
I really couldnt ask for a more fun system than this.

Sonic is good, but it's hard and you need to level up enough to have all the moves needed to play the game well. Hell, you need to level up to make moving from side to side not jerky and horrible. If it had all the moves from the sart of the game it would have turned out very well indeed.
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, my god I need it. UC can go off and die though, Resident Evil lightgun games always suck.
All the other games are very take or leave at the moment though as fun as Monky Ball and Ware, they're short lived. I'd say wait until christmas when all the big hitters like Mario and Metroid come out.

I got Warioware and it's a great party game, especially when you have one or two drinks in and some good company. The game sucks if you're playing alone, by yourself. It needs a certain atmosphere around it when you play.
Sonic is good, it just needs getting used to. I borrowed DeZ's the other day and i gave up almost straight away. After a few hours i went back to it and started over and learned to like it a bit more. Now i consider it to be a decent game, by Sonic's standards anyway.
All in all, get a Wii. It's worth it. Though...the wii-motes are bloody expensive and you need batteries for those so get recharable ones. Saves you a sack of cash in the long run.

I doubt that I'll buy one for myself though, as has been said, there aren't many games yet.
Does anyone know of a fishing game for the Wii? (not counting the one in Twilight Princess)
That combined with NiGHTS would sell me.
If I do end up getting a system, I'll wait until fall to see if prices drop or it becomes more available.
Though I'm such a hopeless case that I would have preordered and purchased the game even with no hope of playing it. is there a 'NiGHTS Lovers Anonymous' group by any chance?

I've had a Wii since launch, only because I was psychotic enough to wake up before dawn and wait outside the store. XD; Twilight Princess is fantastic, Rayman Raving Rabbids is utterly INSANE, Warioware completely random, and yes, Sonic is difficult, but still a great ride once you get the hang of it. X3
There's also all the retro games to download, which makes nostalgia-happy geeks like me go SQUEE. *still waiting for Super Mario RPG*
So yes, I definitely recommend Wii for everyone! But hey, snickrep, if you really enjoy your 360 games, I don't think you should give it up right off. Take a little time to decide whether to trade up or save up - there's at least half a year between now and JoD, after all!

As for the Wii, it offers a lot but it's off to a slow start. It needs more games before it's worth buying. Right now it has a lot of fun games, but many of them are far too short lived. Right now the only titles that have any lasting appeal are Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess (which is also on the cube), and maybe Sonic. The worst part is that between now and the end of the year, nothing noteworthy is being released, so you better love the virtual console. It's a great system, but I think it would be best to wait until fall when we have a better idea of when some big titles are going to be released.
Oh, and as for your 360, don't sell it...period. There are a few reasons why.
A. It already has a respectable library that will only get better with time.
B. It still has the best online gaming among consoles
C. Unless you repeatedly sell it to a pawn shop owner with Alzheimer's, the retailer will likely give you less than half of what you originally paid. In my book, that's called a rip-off

As for the whole Wii thing. Seriously, you'll end up playing games that you don't normally play...like WiiSports. I never play sport games but the Wii gives you that whole satisfaction of using that wii-remote that it makes the games more enjoyable. It's a whole different style of video gaming with the Nintendo Wii.
I originally wanted to buy the Wii before NiGHTS comes out. UK were having this major shortage of consoles a little while ago and i wanted to buy one quickly before i missed my chance. Now that i've bought it, i'm seeing some interesting games coming out for it.
Smash Bros. is going to kick ass because Sonic is most probably going to be in it now. This means after 16 years Sonic and Mario will finally be able to face off against eachother, and i know some gamers are eager to see that kinda thing. I think that this game would be a stepping stone towards having a full on Sega vs Nintendo style game. If Capcom and SNK could do it then i'm pretty sure that Sega and Nintendo will at some point too. Besides, they're already doing that Olympic Games thing.

Do you have any kind of source for this? I did hear that sonic was going to be in melee, but I've heard nothing concrete about him appearing in Brawl..Smash Bros. is going to kick ass because Sonic is most probably going to be in it now. Hm, I wouldn't say that there's absolutely nothing noteworthy coming out for the wii in 2007..The worst part is that between now and the end of the year, nothing noteworthy is being released, so you better love the virtual console. As for why I wanted a Wii, the answer is simple. Mario Galaxy (when it comes out >_>), Zelda, and Sonic. Definately Sonic. I was previously skeptical about the plot of satsr, until Darkspine started appearing all over the internet. The darker Sonic form just hooked me to the Wii. the EmoBox360 tends to get ignored at the moment, but when Devil May Cry comes out on it, it'll be loved again XD
On topic, I wouldn't buy a console just for one game. Even if the game is the sequel we've all been waiting for for so long. Because if there are no other games on the console that you want, it'll just be a waste of money. Though the Wii does have the Virtual Console, which I will be raiding as soon as I get some Wii Points lol.

Ditto to what DiGi said. The guys at HAL have said they would like to maybe squeeze in a couple more third party characters in addition to Snake, and Sonic has consistently been first in polls.
As for that list, I see a few problems with it. For one thing, it's from IGN, and like I always say, you can't spell ignorant without IGN. Also, that list is over a month old and things have changed a bit since then. Finally, most of the noteworthy games on that list only have a tentative release year and no date. That's still the case and the main problem. Nobody really knows when those games are coming out, and we aren't likely to find out until it gets closer to fall. Honestly though, I really doubt Nintendo is going to release that many big name titles by the end of the year. Nintendo is already looking at a rough holiday season with Grand Theft Auto 4 and Halo 3 being released in almost rapid succession. It just doesn't make sense to release THAT many 1st party games when none of them can beat the competition.

However, the xbox is a different story. Microsft never rivaled sega. Infact, they created an easily adaptable OS for The Sega Dreamcast.
Xbox/360 is an Ally to us over-hardcore-diehard sega fans.
there is a one in a million chance that I buy a wii. I mean, don't get me wrong, I LOVE NiGHTS. but I hate nintendo almost as much as I love NiGHTS.
I'll just have to petition sega to make a 360 port of the game. either that or win some sort of wii contest. (that didn't sound right 0_o wii contest.... o.o)

Then you're really going to hate this.Im sorry, but I am an over-extreme DIEHARD sega fan. I could never buy into a company that has been rivals with sega for so many years (Sony and Nintendo)

A Sega fan hating Nintendo because of the Genesis v. SNES days would be like an American hating Russia because of the Cold War. It's over, man!
Better to side with the enemy you know, right? XBox 360 and PS3 got a Sonic game that was vastly inferior to Secret Rings. Sega is siding with Nintendo now. Better the enemy you know, right?
Go ahead and buy a Wii. For Sega, if nothing else.

You're fighting a war that's been over for years. They've made peace now. Get with it.
Besides, the Wii already costs so much less than the competition and you're STILL waiting for a price drop? Come on!

I use to be a Nintendo hater but I've grown fond of the Wii. I'm trying to save up enough to buy it for mainly three reasons. Mii (so I can hassle certain peeps), the unique controls, and NiGHTS JoD.
if I was to agree with Sega fans hating any system it would be Sony Playstation and Ps2 because those are what killed Saturn/Dreamcast. Sega was always able to compete with Nintendo on a roughly equal level (before going astray with Sega Cd, which was an awful, awful idea).

IGN is as credible a source as any, even if liking them isn't the hip thing to do Especially seeing as though the list was released by nintendo and you'd probably find the list published on other sites and other forms of media worldwide.Ditto to what DiGi said.
From what I've heard, Pokemon Battle Revolution is due out in Australia about a month after pokemon Diamond and Pearl, so that's about July/august, maybe september if you factor in Nintendo Of Australia's cautiousness towards ANYTHING D:. As Pkmn Battle Revolution is the first online game for the Wii, I'd call it a big title, if not for the fact that it is a pokemon game and they'll always sell smashingly.
And while we're making baseless asumptions, I'd like to point out that Smash Bros. Brawl, given the amount of people who splooged themselves after seeing last year's E3 Trailer, will probably be the game that nintendo releases for the holiday season in order to compete with GTA4 and Halo 3. It'd make sense.
Getting back on topic though, I agree in saying that the wii, as it stands, isn't worth the purchase at all. Mine, as I may or may not have previously stated, hasn't been played for a while, except for the occasional bout of Fire Emblem/Baiten Katos. Or to check the weather in Antarctica . Lulz
