Yeah, NiGHTS into Dreams Ds. Good idea?

I think it would be a good idea to port NiGHTS to DS because I have access to a DS and I've never even seen a Saturn personally. Except for my friend Thomas' house, there's probably not a Saturn with 100 miles of me. This could be a good way to have new fans (for the sequal) be able to play the first game that don't have a Saturn (because God knows it's easier to find a DS than a Saturn).

Oh, and I haven't heard anything about this happening, it's just from a discussion I found somewhere.

It honestly depends how you look at it.

YES, the original game would be nice on the DS for people, who were sadly unable to play that beautiful original, but bad in the ways of the controls.

When NiGHTS came, out were given a 3-D controller, which made the game a HELLUVAH lot easier. Restricting it to a DS, even with the touch screen, can lead to bad hands cramps and such. :| And would make is UBER hard.

I have to agree with KyraWolf--it'd be great, as it'd be accessable to people without a Saturn, but it would make gameplay much more difficult. It'd also detract from some of the gameplay.

...and your avatars make me smile.

It would be nice to see the game ported to other systems, rather than exclusively the Wii... but I think that stems back to advertising and the like. Might work on the DS - though I'm not sure exactly how. Even with the Saturn, it's very heavily controller based... doesn't make for a friendly approach on the stylus screen.

and it also makes you want a towel

well, i hadn't even thought about controls. but that's because i've never played the game so i don't know what it's like on that controller.

some people might be miffed about graphics too i guess.

I don't think the original game itself would be that great on DS. Maybe a new touch-screen controlled NiGHTS game, depending on how it's done. I can definitely imagine controlling NiGHTS with the stylus. Of course, it would mean I'd have to buy a DS. ^_^

A remake of the original NiGHTS, in my opinion, would be much better with controls that are more like the Saturn 3D pad. The Wii's nunchuk controller might work...

I think it is a good idea, and the touch screen is perfect for NiGHTS, theres only one reason why I wouldn't. The game would be sooooo easy with the touch screen. I mean thats why they made the 3d controller pad, for smooth flying, but literally dragging NiGHTS around with the stick thing just squeezes the fun out of it in my opinion. I find the game challenging and I like a challenge.

That's why they'd have to do something new, instead of a remake of the original NiGHTS. Give it something that would make it challenging even on a touch screen. :P

Of course, I'd play it even if it was stupidly easy, but I'm not exactly the best gamer out there...

I dont know if you have seen the other post about that new homebrew NiGHTS game - but i reckon a touchscreen version of NiGHTS could work in a similar way to that. The original would be great on the ds in my opinion - they managed to put mario 64 on it so I dont know why they couldn't do it with NiGHTS too.

I'm all for NiGHTS appearing on any system, but I don't own a DS and have never played on one.
I'm like Misaki-chan in that I'm a lousy gamer and wouldn't mind a simple game. It'd be a nice distraction for bus stops or waiting rooms.

This is me speaking as one who is ignorant of the DS's abilities though.

I think it would a little hard to control on the DS myself. The DS is a great system, but it defently won't work for At least the Original NiGHTS. I think it would be...difficult.

Trying to compress that much manual dexterity for a game like NiGHTS onto the DS? Bad idea. Take something already rather fast paced, like Elite Beat Agents. NiGHTS would indeed be difficult, if not impossible if they tried going for a Saturn port. Now if they developed a NiGHTS game specifically FOR the DS on the other hand.. We might have a winner there.

Okay, here you go.

NiGHTS constantly flies to the...uh...-> That way.
^_^ Brain stopped for a sec.

You draw a circle around the enemies you want to paraloop, or draw a line through anything you want to drill dash.
...and then you draw a circle AND a line, and NiGHTS will eat it...and if you're playing as Reala (yeah, that's a choice), then he...well...:( Dutty Reala.

I think NiD on the DS is a wonderful idea.

I mean, it's dual screen, so you could control NiGHTS with the stylus rather than using the D-Pad (or both as a bonus feature). Plus almost everyone and their mom has a DS now, so it'd be easier to buy rather than waiting two years to somehow get your hands on a Nintendo Wii for Journey of Dreams ;)

And I don't think it should be an entirely different story for the game like JoD might be, but the classic game just revamped to meet up to the DS technology (though now that I think about it, that might be really tricky to figure out).

All in all, I think it's a good idea.

I think it might be fun. ^^ It would be neat to control NiGHTS with the stylus pen. Simple and fun is always a good thing anways. X3 As I'm easily amused. lol

I think that the original NiGHTS into Dreams would be great for the DS. Besides doing all those cool tricks with the touch screen you could also use the L and R buttons when you went through those trick loops (you know the loops that are made out of blue and yellow balls that you go through to earn points by doing as many tricks as you can do in a row) like you do when you use the triggers of the Saturn controler. It would be so cool and fun. I'd love to see it happen especially since the Saturn and the Saturn NiGHTS game is so hard to find.

I think I'm one of the few people who likes the idea of a DS port. I've never had my hand cramp up when playing games like Metroid Prime Hunters and now that Nintendo released a smaller system with a bigger stylus, I personally find this issue nonexistent. What will ruin the game is if Sega decided to add some lame touch-screen gimmick. Probably the best scenario would be if somebody figured out how to properly emulate Saturn games. That way we could get NiGHTS on the virtual console as well as other titles *coughpanzerdragoonsagaradiantsilverguncough*. Excuse me, spring allergies.

I already found a nice emulator for the Saturn. I'll check it's name later, but it works pretty well. Only problem I have is the screen, it's all....Liney. You can see it in one place, but not another, and it goes in rows headed down. Like:
_
_
_
_
_

_= Stuff you can see

And for DS: not a port. It's hard enough going through those tough courses with the big old controller, but with a stylus or d-pad? No. How about a motion sensing game, like Wario Ware? The DS card would have the game, and the GBA game would have the motion sensing. So, when you turn it 90 degrees or so, NiGHTS would turn that way. Kinda like that part in Soft Museum when your shot out of a cannon.

EDIT: The emulator is called SSF. Go find it on google.

A port might be difficult, however, the DS (original, I dunno off the top of my head if the lite has this) has a lil thumb pad on the strap that is supposed to simulate an analog thumb screw. Now, it doesn't work the best in practice at fist, but mastering it is a small feat.

As for a whole new game that was geared towards the DS, that would be quite lovely. And easier.

Or, perhaps there would be a NiGHTS DS game that was one of two things:
1) Mini games a la Wario Ware Touched (I love mini game games; they rock, but not all people think so)
2) a raise the nightopian game, like pokemon, or tamagotchi, even Nintendogs. I'm all for raising the monster games. Imagine feeding it via stylus, petting them, or even picking them up. ^^ The thought makes me squee.

I dunno, I'm just making conversation. I love my candy pink ds. ^^

I really hope not. The last thing I want to see on a Nintendo console is another mini-game compilation, especially after that first year the DS was out. There are too many as it is, they have little lasting appeal, and they typically play more like tech demos than games. Warioware and Raving Rabbids are fine, but please, no more. I certainly don't want to see NiGHTS sink so low.

It's small, but you hold it close to your face. I think it would be cool if they included something to help with curving movements like a wi-fi controller or something to place over the control pad.
