Well, here's my dilemma. I have a dreamcatcher that I got 3 and a half years ago. I haven't had any real nightmares...but I haven't had any weird/lucid dreams. All my dreams are realistic. Do you guys think I should take it down? Maybe, its psychosomatic, and I just dream like that. What do you all think?

Dreams, of course, are greatly affected by how you are feeling.

The presence of a dreamcatcher might make you feel protected from nightmares and thus your mind sort of "blocks" them out. Knowing that something is present sometimes affects the way you sleep/dream - whether you're alert and tired, then you fall asleep, or if you're very sleepy and not worried about anything other than just resting.

..this comes from personal experience. I've had a dreamcatcher in my bedroom since 1995, but I've had plenty of nightmares along the way.

Dreaming and lucidity are more or less up to you and actually going to sleep with that mindset, "Ok! Let's dream about something!"
I've noticed more personal success with a wake-induced lucidity, having been awakened, still extremely tired, then falling back asleep.

Hmm, I see. Im possibly going to experiment a couple of nights with/without my dreamcatcher. Honestly, I have tried so hard to lucid dream, im blaming it on my dreamcatcher. XD

nightmare or dream, you can still manipulate it if you lucid dream correctly. I personally don't think a dreamcatcher works but hey
It's a nice bit of decoration, and sometimes even comforting. too bad I lost mine... :)
ANYHOO, I've never had a lucid dream b4... but maybe other ppl on these forums can help you out?
Ultimately, I think it just depends on your state of mind during the dream...

I don't think a dreamcatcher will directly affect dream lucidity, unless you firmly believe that it does. I remember going lucid every so often back when I had a dreamcatcher, once-or-twice-a-month-ish. Most of those happened during nightmares, though. I learned to become lucid so I could wake myself up and escape them. Dreamcatchers didn't work for me because I was too anxious about having nightmares. Every person is different, though. It took nightmares to make me lucid. If you have none and are having trouble lucid dreaming then it might be the same case for you. But try everything else first. More likely the obstacle to your lucidity is the realism in your dreams. If there's nothing glaringly unrealistic in your dreams, then there's less for your mind to go "OMG! Flying pigs!" at. When you're awake, think back and try to observe the little minuscule details that set your dreams apart from reality. Like maybe stuff is out of proportion, or someone you know is acting out of character. If you keep reminding yourself of the differences from your dreams and real life, then it's easier for you to identify them when you're dreaming.

I'm in the same boat. I've never had a lucid dream no matter how hard I've tried. I tried "I will dream of <insert subject here>" but it never worked. I don't know if I'll ever become lucid. My dreams have become incredibly lame over the years. It went from action packed movie like scenes to me dreaming about the f'n internet like forums and youtube. WTF?! Thanks for starting this topic. I'm going to stick close to it. Maybe I can get some help. Back to MGS4 now. You all have a good day.

I, in fact, never had nightmares until I got my dream catcher. I didn't think much of it until we moved and I didn't put the dream catcher back up. My nightmares stopped but I did put it back up because I feel nightmares are an important part of dreaming. I haven't had many lucid dreams. I've even had trouble waking from certain dreams and it's a bit scary. I've not been able to have lucid dreams even after waking and falling back half asleep. Then again, I don't have dreams or nightmares very often anyways. I don't know what causes it but hopefully this topic will help me find out!

I seem to be really on and off with my beliefs, and sometimes my reasons for believing things can be kind of silly. (And yet here I am, still believing, knowing I believe things for silly reasons sometimes. XD ) Where did your dream catcher come from? Is it authentic?

Watch, next week I'll come back like: DREAM CATCHERS ARE SO FAAAKE!

Then I'll forget. XD

Lol, I understand what you mean, Purg. I do that way to often and my teachers seem to be the ones who don't like it very much. XP As far as my dreamcatcher goes, I don't even remember where I got it, it's so old! I got a new one though and things seem to have evened out. But it is rare that I ever sleep in my room now since it's often sooo hot and I don't have an airconditioner. Still, new dreamcatcher+old dreamcatcher=less nightmares. Maybe my old one was getting full. XD

I got my dream catcher from this store named "Earthbound", but it closed down like 3 years ago. It was a total hippie store. XD
