It's been almost 9 months since Geneon was shut down... this was a devastating blow to many anime lovers around the world and put a screeching halt on some of our favorite animes like Black Lagoon and Hellsing... However!
Just 29 days ago! (July 3rd, 2008) Funimation announced that it bought some select titles from Geneon! They are now able to Manufacture, sell, and distribute select DVDs to North America! here's the list...
Ergo Proxy, Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage, Karin, Kyo kara Maoh! Season 2, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Elemental Gelade, Fate/stay night, Kamichu, the live-action Ninja Vixens work, Paradise Kiss, Rozen Maiden, Rozen Maiden - Träumend, Shana, Shonen Onmyouji, The Familiar of Zero, The Story of Saiunkoku, When They Cry - Higurashi, and The Law of Ueki.
I know little else since I only watch one of these animes...
Black Lagoon of course... so I only have one little bit of information left, that would concern Black Lagoon fans (if there are any on this site)
A season 3 has been announced!

When it happened an otaku friend of mine sent an email to me being all "OMG FUNIMATION HAS SAVED US".

It is good news indeed I think! Hellsing Ultimate is the only one of those series I am familiar with but I definitely want more of it!

I heard Ergo Proxy was really great but at the moment I feel like I shouldn't start buying any new series.

Oh, and there are rumors that Funimation might try to get the rights to Sailor Moon. I would approve of this much (quasi-secret fan).

Ya I was ticked when I found out Black Lagoon was over... when I read that my friends and I just yelled NOOOOO!!!! So I thought I was gonna have to watch a new anime... but none really fazed me anymore... how is Hellsing and Ergo Proxy? I've heard Hellsing is good... but thats it... need ta find something ta pass my time with till Season 3 comes out...

Hellsing's a very dark but awesome anime according my sister, who's watched almost every episode in existence. It's something about vampires living in Germany. I sort of want to watch it myself...

England actually, not Germany. Hellsing is great if you like goth stuff.
Basically it is about a secret organization in England that protects the country from vampires and the like. But they have a vampire on their side, Alucard, who is pretty much the most badass vampire ever.

The TV series is pretty serious and while it starts and ends strongly, the middle feels too melodramatic and becomes dull as things are dragged out. The series has some great music and some high-quality episodes. The only real problem is that it tends to focus on the "whiny woman vampire who doesn't want to be a vampire" instead of the awesome Alucard everyone wants to see more of.
Hellsing Ultimate (OVA series) is a re-adaptation which is closer to the manga. It contains a lot more humor and is MUCH more violent; I would be hard-pressed to think of a bloodier anime. It revolves much more around Alucard, the mood is lighter but also the action is more intense, so most folks prefer it.

They aren't everyone's cup of tea but if you like action and horror, I think both incarnations are worth watching.

meh... I MIGHT check it out... it sounds like it could tide me over till the next season of Black Lagoon is out... that and the English adaptations I see on Stars once in awhile...
