Just as a starter topic i thought i'd kick it all off with this one which has been on my mind a lot since i started hearing about NiGHTS 2 a few months ago and the forums were down. I often wanted to rant or vent but found i could always turn to DiGi offline instead of tearing up the internet regarding the emotions a lot of you must be feeling. A lot of you rely on the net to vent, so it's important that you have likeminded people around you to listen to what you have to say.
The new game hhmmmm...
New guys will be excited. I want to be excited too, i really do, but i can't be. It's just... one of those things D: I'm ready to be dissapointed, but at the same time i want to be impressed.
I know that a few of you will feel like you're on an emotional rollercoaster right now. When i read all those emails you sent in about your wishes and feeling towards NiGHTS 2 i knew i HAD to open these forums. I think you could all really help eachother.
Big changes after 11 years can be both frustrating and refreshing. It can be hard not knowing how to feel. Getting the butterflies, getting the doubts, sometimes wishing you could say more.
How have you guys been coping? I mean i'm not Lord emotastic but it's certainly had me lose sleep both with fears and nerves. Some days are good, some days are not so good. It's hard to see something that is such a huge part of your life resurface as something different after 11 years. Anyone else been feeling mighty jumpy?
Its irritating not being sure whether to jump for joy or kiss your dreams goodbye.
Anyone got any major anger or major glee? I'd love to hear about what's been going on in your brainmeats over the recent happenings.
One thing is for certain though, even if this game fails with the fans we'll still be here doing what we do. Count on that.
I'd love to see through the perspective of someone new to the fanbase. How do you feel? I wonder if it was like 1996. I'd give anything to relive that year.

But anyway, I can roughly compare the situation to one of a SNES game that was my favorite videogame before I discovered NiGHTS... Chrono Trigger. The game was accepted wonderfully, I loved it, just about everyone else who played it loved it, and demand for a sequel was high. So the PlayStation sequel "Chrono Cross" was released. It was horrible, completely twisted up the excellent story of CT, and was just kinda boring. And what's kinda funny is that most fans, when discussing the story, characters, etc, just pretend that Cross doesn't exist. And we say we're still waiting for the "real" CT sequel.
I really think a similar thing will happen should Journey of Dreams crash and burn. We'll accept it as a mistake and move on, hoping that the next one pulls it off. If it works, if it's the sequel NiD deserves, wonderful. But otherwise, it'll just be another waiting game.
It may just be that I've only waited a year, but I'm not terribly worried.

I read something about the weather system and things of that nature possibly being inputed into the game. I wonder if it can detect if it was raining or snowing where you lived. That would be interesting. I agree with Digi's comment in the Podcast though, it would be awsome if NiGHTS did something on your birthday. I plan to draw a picture of that....
Voices...ah voices....That is a scary thought. I hope that they include Japanese voices. Usually those are a lot better than the English ones. (I can't stand playing a Sonic game in English...let alone NiGHTS.) I kinda hope NiGHTS doesn't have a voice though. Or at least doesn't talk much.
I heard one thing about Reala being in the game, and I hope that is true. It would seriously hurt if he didn't make another apperance. (I hope for Jackle too but thats probably hopeless dreaming.)
I am tired and will continue this later. Sorry....

My worries are the same as TRiP's. Part of me wants to be excited, and i mean i really wanna scream with glee over seeing NiGHTS' face again in magazines and people giving him words of praise. But...it's just...y'know...a tad awkward knowing two small points of fact. Point 1 being that this team are the same team that created Shadow the Hedgehog (sorry if you guys like it but it didn't really go well with me). Point 2 being the fact that we had been told quite a small sum of development details months ago with some of it coming through (like that Puffy maren rip-off) and some of it not (like the name being changed). If they keep changing their idea's all the time then we could miss out on a whole heap of cool things that we were told about. I mean, that recent NGamer interview. Izuka says the controls were recieved poorly for the previous game. Poorly? The people loved it. If they didn't love the first 5 minutes then they loved the first 10, they just needed to understand what they were doing. NiGHTS into Dreams could have been a game before it's time. If he's worried about some so-so gamer saying "but i didn't know what i was doing because i'm dense, Izuka-san" then god only knows how the new game is going to control.
But..hey...chill, DiG'. Save your argument for the next show of DreamCast....which will probably go into recording tonight, hopefully. ;;

That Patchwork-Puffy 'Maren throws me off slightly. Not that Puffy was bad, but that's the point: Puffy was enough! O_O What if its all regurgitated? Well.. I did say I would enjoy either a sequel or a remake.. but not that I would really like something where they wanted to impress with the graphics so much that they were going to cheat a remake. :/ It seems like a lot of people have similar worries.
I hope that they don't change the game too much before its completed. What if we wind up with Franken-NiGHTS?? Nuuu~
And I agree, DiGi, what the heck was that about?? The controls not user friendly?? The first time I played the game, I picked it up very quickly. I didn't have a problem and back in those silly days when I hadn't really played yet, I even had the clockface stunt system memorized. The controls never bothered me.. But it would be really funny if he himself picked up the game, blew the dust off his Saturn, and played it and was completely out of practice and that's why he said it. WAA Haaaaa! *imagines* I only hope that it isn't too much like Sonic and the Secret Rings, that was like someone attached Sonic to a cow thrower in front of a train.

I want a sequel to everything. If the sequel of something sucks, it will in no way ruin the original. Chrono Trigger is a great example. Classic game. Then Chrono Cross wasn't nearly as good, but it didn't ruin Trigger. Same goes for this. If NiGHTS 2 turns out to be the worse game of all time (and with Sega's track record for the last 7 years, I wouldn't doubt it), it still won't ruin the original that we all love. We'll just pretend it doesn't exist.
Now I already hate this game for two reasons so far. It's another sidescroller (I have a full gripe on this in this topic). The other, only 7 levels. Made since for a game 11 years ago...but now? Especially after we waited 11 years?
But, NiGHTS, Reala, new NiGHTS game, same guy from the original composing the music, I have so many more reasons to love this game, than I have to hate it. And if I hate it fully, I will still be happy knowing this game in no way ruins the original.

Happy about: track based gameplay, claris-elliot-reala, old control sceme, music by the same music director
Dissapointed about: less than breathtaking level designs (from the glimpses we have seen anyways), masks, NiGHTS doesnt even look like he is normal mapped and has too few polygons..and those fish look better than he does
Holding breath about: crush 40 better keep their mits off this game , I hope it is still a score attack game and not an adventure game, I hope there are no voices because it keeps the characters mysterious and gives a good mood to the game.

As for the controls....they were pretty hard. To use normal gamers, they were good. But to new people or young idiot 8 year olds like me who could only really play fighting games well (It was always hilarious for an 8 year old to beat a grown man in Mortal Kombat. XD )...the controls are pretty hard.
Real life example, I put the controllers into the hands of my friend who never plays video games. Her respones: "How do you go stright? I keep going up and down..." O.O
I wanted to bang my head against a wall. I tried to direct her and let her learn but after 10 min she wanted to quit. She said, "I want to play Sonic Riders again. I like that game. I am good at it."
WHAT?!! Since when is Sonic Riders better than NiGHTS. I thought Sonic Riders controls were worse. I wanted to cry and my boyfriend was laughing while watching all this. Mario fan....

While I'm interested in the development of Journey of Dreams, it is what it is, this years Sonic game. Still, Secret Rings was horribly rushed and that turned out well, due to a large development team and NiGHTS levels must hardly take much tallent to put together. Ring here, chips there... badaboom you're done.
Now, let's go at this from a different angle, what they need to do to ensure this is half way decent in my eyes.
Not messing with the gameplay system. - Nunchuck if you want? Nice one Sega. Persona? Possibly game breaking.
Nicely thought out boss battles - Gulpo was the game hilight for me, such a fun way t go about a boss, with any luck Puffy cyclops will play a bit like Puffy, but I'd like some good new ideas please.
Pians - Probably won't be in it because of time constrainsts. Which is a shame really. Messing with the soundtrack though them was a lot of fun.
New kids please - Now people might not like me for this, but Elliot and Claris were ten years ago, their little dreams is over. I wouldn't like it if NiGHTS helped the with every damn first date, period etc. So the conflicting reports about Kevin and Helen make me happy (at least when the new ones are mentioned)
Good sountrack - The old composer is on board, good good.
I'll probably be able to think of more later, but until then this game seems a bit meh. Not good, not bad. Just meh.

I understand it, but the emotional YAYness isn't there.
I'm just glad that NiGHTS is recognized. . . and I'll personally lead the angry mob if they make any major mistakes.
I can live with Reala's promotion i suppose. I'm not thrilled, but i guess they wanted to pull an Archie.
And I refuse to make sense. Sanity is overrated.

I didn't like Secret rings. To me it still sported all the same problems since Sonic Adventure. Unresponsive controls, painful collision detection and yes at times even the camera was daft. Despite the game being on rails.
Theres no proof on how well the game will play until we see the reviews or get a try for ourselves.
I'm a litttle confused on the rumour also that Prope began development for NiGHTS 2, but it was moved to Sonic Team USA (Saw this at Spong)
Some say Spong's an awful resource (Even though they confimed NiGHTS JOD before anyone else)

That all depends on how well it's implemented. If say it were a simple transition like before, with all the masks from the start then it would be okay (if a little pointless, controlling crap until you'd played loing enough/not being able to play the game with all the moves you need until you're finished etc). I worry that having to collect the masks before will result in the levels not beingable to be explored fully on first play ( The levelup system ruined Secret Rings in a similar way). If they're items like the ones scattered though Sonic games then it could fragment and runin a good score attack. And if there are horrble Majoras Mask style screaming transformations, then not only would it ruin the pace of the game, but make it cheesy as hell.
Then again, they're saying the gameplay is simplified from the first, so maybe it is all automatic.

I keep telling myself "They're gonna butcher it like the sonic games" @_@ It's a disturbing thought to be honest, like...NiGHTS sounds like some spasticated mickey mouse whilst claris has the cliche japanese gaga girl voice >.< and elliot sounds like a middle school teacher *snnnrk*
The graphics look lush but think about story and gameplay. the original NiD game had no actual set storyline, just a basic outline to give players something to work with rather than fly around in endless circles, you know? You had two characters, one main hero and some villians, but it was unique!
I hope they develop the story a little bit for the new game...the last thing i want is another empty SEGA drop out of a game =/ SEGA had skills telling stories, they just need to work on it more! Take a leaf out of Nintendo's book or something.
Blah rambling.
Speaking of controls and such, SONIC AND THE SECRET RINGS is a hassle to play so I hope they fix the controls of that when it comes to releasing the new game, so that you don't end up veering off course, smacking into a tree and do a 360 for no reason @_@. It was a disaster really, good story, excellent graphics, characters were good but...ugh...gameplay fell down insanely. At least the multiplayer was fun!
Speaking of that! I hope they include a better multiplayer feature or a secret alternative mode where you play from Reala's viewpoint or something...*daydream* or even the old date thing from NiD Christmas.
Argh t-t crush 40 are good...I hope they do reala's theme, it'd work! He's all heavy metal anger and stuff, Reala is!
Also, voice actors, anyone got any good suggestions of who would fit what if they were to include voices?

"Give up the emerald.. or die... I don't love you"?
That was actually my favorite one. Reminds me of the classic Knuckles before Sonic Team ruined him so badly.
"A ghost tried to approach me and got buried"... You know how long I thought he was saying "A ghost tried to approach me and got malaria?! *lol* O god! *Rolls around in pain* I don't know if I could stomach more stuff like that.
I used to think "Yeah Rouge, she's sexy and smooth" was "Rouge, she's sexy as hell". I swear it STILL sounds like that even though I know the real lyrics now. Well, Sonic Adventure 2 was the first US Sonic game to include cursing regardless, because one of the lyrics in Knuckle's main theme song was 'damn', followed by Shadow which had plenty of curseing to earn it a T rating, and Sonic and the Secret Rings, which had the word 'hell', which still gave it a E only rating, not E10 O.o
Speaking of cursing, I hope NiGHTS JoD has none. If any one curses, it better be Reala, and it better only be the 'hell' or 'damn' word. I can actually see him saying both. Other than that, this game better at least get a E10 rating. E rating would make it seem, like it would only get a kiddy audience out of the new crowd this game may get. T would be too much, as I see this game as more of a family type of game, with little violence (again, maybe Reala could push it a little).

Yes, NiGHTS should be mute.
Reala, I can think of several voices for him actually, depending on his personality. If he's an evil crazy clown, Mark Hamill would be perfect, and everyone knows it. If he's down, not a crazy clown, ect, then...well damn I had one in mind when I hit the Reply button. Just NOT Jason Griffon! If anything, I PRAY they do not have 4kids voice actors like the one's Sega seems to love. You know, the one's with no talent.
EDIT: I actually meant to copy and pace my reply into my last post so I don't double post, but I forgot >.< I'm sick, sue me >.<

Controls in Secret Rings only bad until you level up enough and buy the right techniques, ruined the single player for many that did. God I hope persona doesn't have the same problem
And with the original composer on board, it's safe to say that there won't be any Crush 40, so people can stop the panic I guess

I will agree Auroa, Crush 40 is not bad at all. I like some of there songs...However its when they shoved it into Sonic that it got bad. I fear Reala having the "I Am" song. Something a little lighter please. The orginal Reala theme was Rock not Hard Rock.
I really hated Knuckes's rap songs. That just....no! Oh better yet...they can give Wizeman a song Like Eggman's!

I'd rather like maren voices to be played backwards. Not just so it sounds like gibberish, but you know like when you record something, play it backwards, then record the giberish you hear with your own voice again, play that backwards and you end up with something really strange and distorted, but understandable. I probably explianed that badly, but it's a nice technique.

Oh yes...Like in Jackle's song. I used to think Jackle might be saying something backwrods too...but then I found out it wasn't true. He just loves gibberish.
Also, the old NiGHTS voice sounded very female to me. I hope they fix that. I would try and say it could also be a very very young boy's voice....but my brain kept saying 'no'.

I am happy about some things, disapointed about some things, and holding my breath for others. But overall I am not losing sleep because I never expect sequals to be better than the origional. I think a game having to live up to something like NiGHTS is a tough strike against it.
Happy about: track based gameplay, claris-elliot-reala, old control sceme, music by the same music director

An androgynous NiGHTS voice would be good. Hm. Like.. Mayo Suzukaze. (Japanese voice of Kenshin) Its a woman, but the voice could also pass for young boy. I think that's pretty good.
I suggested something like that before on Gamefaqs, like get a female to talk for NiGHTS that could also pass for a young male. They do it with males in anime all the time. Shippo, I went 100 episodes before I finally figured out the damn things gender. Tails now is begining to make me wonder of his gender, with his almost Amy like obsession with Sonic and all. And he has a female voice actor too.
I still hope they don't change things too much, I like the engrish/backwards speech/whatever else everyone thinks it is or it really is. XD
I hate it. It wouldn't want to record everything said, play it backwards (since I wouldn't know how), just to understand what the hell they are saying.

NiGHTS' as a character is a rather complex thing to understand. NiGHTS is a Maren, which as mentioned, Marens are considered the bad guys: Reala, Jackle, Puffy, Gulpo, Gillwing, Clawz and the minions of the game are all examples. So that in itself would make you think of what kinda Maren was NiGHTS before all this and many people have made their ideas about what it could be. Now this could play a part in the sequel, Journey of Dreams: somehow revealing what NiGHTS' was like. Perhaps it could be a relatively cool thing but also it can be something that just sucks hard.
Also, NiGHTS is more of an acrobatic flying jester. What kinda moves could the developers have added/subtracted from the game to make this a bit more interesting. With that said, though, this brings out the technology that the Wii was striving for: the use of that funky controller of theirs. In my mind, I see that the developers at SEGA knew that they had a real winning game on their hand and when the first one came out, though it wasn't the all time high of the year, it definitely left a mark on their minds for a possible sequel. But how to top it? And with this new controller, it seems that this would be the best possibly solution for terms of game play. I can see myself now breaking TV's left and right cause of this x_x;
Plot is still in the dark from what I heard, which can be both good and bad. Good for those who have never played the game and have no idea to what possibly to expect or have high hopes for. Bad for the old timers out there who have taken the liberty of playing the game to this day. I do expect mixed views and a bunch of pros/cons but for me, I'm looking past the desires of what to hope for. I expect a good game to come of this. Naka owes us that much, anyway.
My prime input on what to hope for in this sequel is to have it be something to remember. I wanna experience the good time I had when I first played this game and questioned "what if..." Hopefully some of the answers are made clearer in the future, but for me, I expect a lot of old stuff and a lot of new stuff. I am digging the new outfit of NiGHTS and am glad to hear Reala is back. Both glad and kinda disappointed to see Claris and Elliot have returned. I would have definitely liked to see some new dreamers in the game. But hey, there are many things that are still in the dark of this game that we can only hope to find out later through leaks and gossip.
