I've been getting pretty busy myself. With finals coming up, I really need to study! Otherwise, I won't pass Algebra 2!

Bah gawd. Ok. I've finally returned, shenanigans aside. We're dusting off the cobwebs, and this is gonna (hopefully) work better than it did the first time.

The dream is over.
As of right now, the NiGHTS into Dreams room on GameSurge no longer officially exists. They pulled the ChanServ bot from the room, which means it's no longer moderated nor acknowledged as an actual room by the GameSurge severs. Long story short, the room is officially dead, and probably for good.
Was it too ambitious? A simple way to unify and bring together the NiGHTS community closer than message boards? The modern room, held together for well over a year by Sairus, and his commanding officers Roam, Pell, and Purgatory, may have represented nothing more than a simple desire to keep the dream alive, but to me it meant more than I can possibly imagine. It was in there that I met and got to know such amazing people from the community, even if some are hardly active on the forums: Sage, Coolmatt, apti, SUSPi, all the channel Ops, and of course Murasaki Doku. Many a lazy night I dwindled away with the help of this chat room, connecting with all sorts of people with one thing in common: We're all, above everything else, dreamers. That alone I've seen build bonds stronger than I ever could've possibly imagined.
It tested my own limits, too. I devoted well over a week's worth of work to develop an easy-connect IRC client (shame I never got around to updating it, no point in doing it now) that took the guesswork out of all the complicated IRC commands and settings. It rekindled my interest for programming, ushering in a wave of motivation that'll get me going on my next big personal project.
We never had official endorsement from the forum side, which probably hurt us quite a bit and helped lead us to this sad day. Was it too much? It just may have been. But I'll never forget what went on in there, and how much I loved every second of it, and how I always wondered what it would be like to bring everyone together. The chatroom was as close as it ever could be to making it a reality.
Fare thee well, IRC room. You'll be sorely missed.

Can't you just open it again? Back when i had an IRC it was up and down every other sunday, lol.
And i expressed my reasons for not wanting an official site chat client. To be honest when my chat was really popular (well not exactly exploding) people stopped talking at the forums, because back then after 10 years there was only so much about NiGHTS you could talk. So people would go to the chat to talk about personal stuff into the wee hours of the morning. Although this was horribly addictive fun it was very hard to keep it clean and moderated 24-7.
Now we have an off topic forum for random ramblings, but if enough people want my IRC client back i would consider it, though right now the forums are quiet enough.
Cheer up chuck, chat popularity goes in cycles as does forum conversation.

I tried getting IRC working today, Empty apart from Pell and I couldn't find a working mIRC script, the guy behind mIRC keeps changing and breaking compatibility so much nothing works anymore. It just doesn't seem worth it, maybe it'll be better to make an IM chatroom when needed, if only everybody used the same protocol.
Or maybe I just need to hang around IRC a bit more often XD

Hmm, the only point I might make TRiP is that part of the reason former forum-goers were able to form such a tight knit group was because the mIRC provided us with an area to speak "live" and stay connected with each other, even across states and continents. On the other hand, that same tight knit "Fam" as the Bunny Man used to call it was also a breeding ground for drama. But it was also due to that same connectedness, and access to things like a chat room, that allowed problems to be patched up, and those that needed support or (for instance in my case) much needed social skills, were given it freely as they were welcomed into the "Fam"...which I will now stop calling that, as its almost starting to sound like a cult XD
But seriously, the IRC was a huge problem, it was rarely filled to the brink, and fraught with troubles, but it also helped draw community closer together and get to know each other, in at least a few cases. I would suggest that it should be brought back.
Hopefully this is enough of a statement to warrant thread necromancy.

Yeah, Hi. I was told to come here by a new friend. She said this place would help me understand the game better? I have no idea what any of this is. Can I get a little help with that?
