OLD Games

And, in the constant flood of new games like Shooting Star Rockman 3 and the two Sonic Games coming up, I think it's time we look to the past, when gaming was simpler. But not too simple as to bore us all to death, you got that? XD I mean the GREAT old games, not TETRIS or PONG old! Like (For example) X-Wing VS TIE Fighter for the Windows 95. (For which I have recently spend 60 bucks getting the game, the expansion, and a controller for it. I just hope it bloody works on Vista. XD Still waiting for the controller in the mail, because it doesn't accept a mouse.)
Now, to me, it doesn't matter HOW old it is, so long as it's for a 'retired' system, like, for example, the GBA or GBC, or, h*ll, even the GBP/GB!!
Now, obviously current-gen and last-gen systems are banned from this conversation. Except for the GBA. Why? Because I said.
So, if you have an old game that you still love to play (Aside from NiGHTS ) discuss it here.
I'll start.
LONG LIVE KIRBY SUPER STAR!! God, that's a fun game! Especially when you're the helper. XD You're the little transforming b*stard that takes away Kirby's power just to stay alive. I like all the different forms the helper can take, too. I'm a bird! I'm a plane/jetpack thing! NO! I'M KNUCKLE JOE!! BWAHAHAHAHA!
It's for the Super Nintendo. BUY IT. Or the remake which will HOPEFULLY come out for the DS. Most Kirby games have been shelved recently, so...

Movie based games are usually a crock of sh*t, I know, but the game is actually a lot more fun than I remember it being when I was a kid. I recall not being able to make it passed the first level and chalked it up to the game sucking. Really I must have been eating paint chips or something.. The levels can be really challenging to figure out, as the layouts are a lot harder than the gremlins that attack you and as you progress through the game, they are harder and harder puzzles.
Other awesome games to play that I sort of overlooked are Kung Foo, Kid Icarus, Wrecking Crew, and some Road Runner game I have..
Kirby for the Nintendo: Awesomesauce. Love the mini games. Especially the quick draw and the one where you have to eat all the eggs DeDeDe throws, but not the bombs.

8-bit: Super Mario Bros. 2 (not the Japanese version) and SMB 3
16-bit: Sonic 2 & 3 & Knuckles, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Mortal Kombat II
32 & 64-bit: Puzzle Fighter, Soul Blade, Super Smash Bros.
And a game I wish I'd gotten to play but never did, Crash Bandicoot

I'll have to say Casino Kid for the NES, not only is it the only casino that I would play at without worrying about going broke, but it also taught me how to play Black Jack and poker.
Sonic Spinball- Can't pass the 3rd stage but still oodles of stress relief.
Double Dragon II: The Revenge- My sister and I almost beat it!
Pokemon Yellow
StarTropics

I know how ya feel my friend... I too act and feel like an old man, although I like to make ppl guess my age... hehehe... I've had guesses ranging from 17 (guess by a 20 year old) too 48 (guess by a 28 year old) although I will say I'm older than 17 lol... but it's like Washu says "Your only as old as you think you are"... OK I'm oldNow, I'm not all that old, even though I act like it, and feel it in various ways.

However forced to choose it would be Flimbos quest on the C64... or Creatures on C64 also.
Then Gargoyles Quest on the original gameboy.

So wish I still had my old NES, I'd be all over that game again.

The main character is actually from an anime called Zillion. Zillion was also made into a SMS game and was the source behind the SMS' light gun design. Apparently in the early days Sega thought they could license themselves a mascot. The series was never released on DVD in the US and the VHS tapes are pretty rare so I cannot make any claim about the quality of the anime.
THIS IS MY DIGRESSION!

Really? I thought Opa Opa was Sega's character, and his apperence in Zillion was a bit of cross licensing. Also, the SMS's light gun was based on the light phaser from the anime (and named after it as well)I have Fantasy Zone for the Sega Master System. It is a great game but is also way too tough and I must admit to never having beaten it.

A game that I discovered myself fairly recently: Pulseman, for the Mega Drive. Only released in cartridge form in Japan, It starred Pulseman, who was half human, half C-life. In a delightful bit of probably unintentional irony, Pulseman appeared in the U.S. on the Sega channel service, which allowed you to play games downloaded over cable TV. What's funny about that? Pulseman's primary method of long distance transportation is over the internet, being half C life enables him to do this.
Wild 9 is a bit more recent one. It was a 2D platformer for the PSX with 3D visuals. You had this tgractor beam claw thing called "The Rig". You used it to pick people up, then either smash them into the ground till they died, or throw them into some kind of hazard (Why anyone would need more than one human sized grinder I'll never know)

1. I have a profound love of action games and fighters
2. High difficulty is the best ingredient for satisfaction

Zero-shift, you seem to like 2-D fighters a lot, seeing how you have Yamazaki as your ava, ever heard of GGPO?

Fighters in general, but yeah, I love 'em. Believe me, you have no idea. And Yamazaki is my favorite fighting game character ever.
Ever heard of GGPO?
You bet I have! I do after all frequent Shoryuken. I haven't used it yet though, and probably won't until:
1. I get an arcade style joystick I can use on my computer.
2. They move onto beta since I don't want to deal with bugs and crashes.
3. The Library gets expanded a bit more. Alpha 2 and Darkstalkers 3 are tempting, but not quite enough for me.
Still, it looks promising.

Street Fighter 2: Turbo
Third Strike
Marvel vs. Capcom 1
Dungeons and Dragons
King of Fighters 98
King of Fighters 2K2
Samurai Showdown 2
Garou
expanded a lot from Alpha 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom
I actually know most of the questions involving non SNK games. xD

Man, that list on the site is really out of date. I may already own more than half of those games, but the prospect of playing some of them online is really enticing, especially 3rd Strike and Garou. I'll ignore issues, but I need an arcade stick. Did Hori ever make one for the PC?
Back on topic, I also love the Ogre Battle series and it all started with the phenomenal March of the Black Queen on SNES. I'm not particularly fond of RPGs, especially when they're franchises, but there are a few that I will unconditionally buy, and Ogre Battle clashes with Shin Megami Tensei for my all time favorite RPG series. Great games without a doubt. It pains me to say there will likely never be any more ever made. And there were still supposed to be five more episodes Y_Y. Why!!!!

"I HUNGER!"
"RUN! COWARD!"
"RUN! RUN! RUN!"
"WRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!"
"I AM SINISTAR!"
Need i say more? my god i love Sinistar... i still play it today... along with many other great classics... like Defender, Robotron, Root Beer Tapper, Spy Hunter, Pac-Man, Pong, and many many more....
then theres the next generation. the ones that stand out in my mind the most, at the moment are: Ninja Gaiden, MegaMan series, MOTHER (actually, the entire series), Donkey Kong, Popeye, Super Mario Bros. 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, Ducktales, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Kirby's Adventure, Zelda.... there is more, but i think this is enough... plus there are still some i haven't seen or heard of before...
then the handheld Generation: Tetris, Bugs Bunny in Crazy Castle 2, Wario Land, Bomberman GB, Mr. Chin's Gourmet Paradise, Qix, Gargoyles Quest, Zelda Link's Awakening, and so much more...
i think i'll stop there... everyone already knows the 16-bit well... also, i think i said too much already...

My family's got a working Pong console stashed away somewhere. May see if I can dig it out soon.
I also loved these as a kid:
Adventure
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Journey Escape
Maze Craze
Atari games all, but still fun. I did have more well known games like Galaga and Pac Man, but didn't mess with those quite as much.

Kirby is always good, any Kirby game. I don't care if they're easy, I don't care if they're meant to be introduction to platforming games, they're the most fun I've ever had with a video game(namely Kirby Super Star on SNES, it was my first and favourite).
Edit- I just found out there's going to be a NDS remake of Kirby Super Star. OoOoOoOodd.

Mmm, I'll never ever get tired of playing Commander Keen. It's a staple of my childhood!!
Oh man, I was an addict of those game. I played all of them up until I went to college and was separated from my olde-fashioned computer.
For a long time all of my online usernames were based around the "Dopefish" which I thought was pretty much the best video game character ever. I even have an official Dopefish mug I bought on eBay.

Most of my old systems are gone so the only way to play those is with the VC.
I like to play Kirby's Adventure, Pokemon Puzzle League (Tetris Attack is not there yet OK!), and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 3 the most.
Sometimes I play Pokemon Blue or Yu-Gi-Oh: Dark Duel Stories. Though thats once in a blue moon.
