Anyways, those are the final choices so this ones going out to the people who are playing AND the people that hope to join us soon on PSU. Vote on the name you think will represent us the most.
Voting should come to a close by ...shall we say Friday? Is that ok? You guys got a whole week to decide on what name to vote on. By Saturday morning (UK timezone) we'll have a name for the Guild.
Also, as for the last name that GC came up with. If it ends up winning, we can decide on which version of the word 'nights' we use, whether it be KNiGHTS or NiGHTS.

LMAO xDI wonder if the French would get a misinterpretation of our guild name when/if it does end up being harlequin syndicate lol THAT would be a mess

Also, it's the last day of voting so i'm guessing it seems we're going to have an outright winner.

I never learned french so i didn't understand that last part. In what way would the French misinterpret the name? o.o?

I think the word "harlequin" is a classy French term for "prostitute", but I could be wrong.

I think harlot is the word you're looking for.
As far as French misinterpretation, I know a long time ago harlequin used to refer to horsemen of the devil, but I'm pretty sure that meaning isn't in use anymore.

it does NiGHTS is basically a Harlequin Jester, as for Syndicate , in my "own little world", I figured it as a sort of reference to PSU's Endrum Collective so I liked it (PM me if your so curious as to why I think so)On second thoughts......Harlequin Syndicate has nothing really to do with NiGHTS does it.....
I feel bad now ;_;
I agree that kNiGHTS of the Realm was a clever name but it sounded more medieval then Sci-Fi
Plus Harlequin Syndicate kinda has a darker tone to it, imo
I hope I've removed your feelings of remorse, Leonhart?

A jester is dated back to early Egyptian period and then was adapted by the Europeans. The Jester was allowed to go anywhere in the kingdom including a Kings room and they walk a thin line between chaos and order, one foot on each side of the coin. However, France created the Harlequin for other reasons -
A harlequin is a French version from olden times where they would not be allowed to speak and sometimes would have their tongues cut out from their mouths as to not reveal French Court secrets that they may learn through their work.
(Click here and read the first reply. I was interested to know the difference between Jester and Harlequin too.).
To me, NiGHTS sounds more like a Jester.
Ok. Idea. If you guys like Harlequin that much then how about this -
Harlequin Syndicate for Xbox Crew.
Jester Syndicate for PC/PS2 Crew.
The entire guild name falls under the title of 'The NiGHTS Syndicate' with the different gaming servers giving us different named factions.
How's that for a compromise? Everybody wins.

When I was coming up with the name I originally going to call it Jester Syndicate, but switched it to Harlequin because I thought the rhyming sound of quin and syn made the name roll off the tongue easier and the word had similar meaning. If people are regretting the decision that much, I say just use the runner-up name. Honestly, I don't care what we're called. I just thought this was going to be a fun little poll to pick a name, but things are starting to get a little bit silly now.

I simply enjoy conversation a name's just a name but I can never pass up a chance for different bits and pieces of interesting knowledge on various subjectsHoly Hell people! You guys are looking way too deep into this. If you guys really regret the name decision that much just pick another, but first since I was the one who came up with the name, let me say this. Yes, all these titles have different meanings in a historical sense. Jesters were different from harlequins were different from clowns. But regardless of their origins, today all these names are interchangeable because they essentially mean the same thing. They are individuals whose purpose was to entertain.

Btw, Digi yes there is a difference between Harlequins and simple Jesters but there is also such thing as a Harlequin Jester which, IMO, looks more like what NiGHTS is here's an example, remember Harley Quinn? (The name itself is wordplay on what she is) She is a Harlequin Jester from Batman (does she remind anyone else of Reala?)
Here's a pic of a typical Jester..... ya........
So all in all a harlequin Jester is simply a type of jester, while jester is simply a broader term.
btw nice idea DiGi. Quite a professional way to come to a compromise I say.Ok. Idea. If you guys like Harlequin that much then how about this -
