i dont think there would be voices. Iizuka wouldnt allow it.

Oh, I should hope he wouldn't.

But you need to understand that there's been a lot of water under the bridge since the last game. Standards of quality are much higher now. Hell, reviewers have been complaining for years that the more recent Zelda games would be absolutely perfect if only there were voice actors. Never mind the epic storyline, fleshed-out characters, finely detailed locales, 50+ hours of immersive gameplay and amazing graphics, there will be complaining until the Zelda developers quit using text. I know it's stupid, but spoken dialogue is the standard now.

Still, Iizuka-san has gone out of his way to shout repeatedly to the heavens that he wants to stay as true to the original as possible. Chances are, that means no dialogue -- spoken or text.

Exactly. Iizuka-san is one of the only producers that has gone out of his way and understands the magic of NiGHTS. Hes a living and breathing producer, not one of those machine-like producers who make them for money only. Of course hes making it for money, but not only.

Of course, there are those who would say that he doesn't extend that respect toward Sonic, but I digress.

Well, those are rumors, but then again in this time and day I wouldn't extend that respect toward Sonic anyway. I mean SEGA just....just.....destroyed his coolness. Oh well, back on topic, as was previously stated I think there wont be any voices. (BTW he wouldnt go out of his way to say things like that because people don't have to wait for sequels, because sega shoots them out all the time. Sonic is just not being cool now.)

if JoD has to have voices in it, I hope they're carefully chosen but also scarce throughout the game. Like, a few lines, not even, per character. Besides maybe the kids.

That seems to be the consensus around here, and rightfully so.

I have to agree. I'm torn on the subject, really; I want there to be voices, but at the same time I'm afraid of what that would do to the very soul of NiGHTS. This suggestion sounds like a nice compromise. From there I fervently wish for decent voice acting. A lot of the suggestions I've read are great ideas. ^_^

EDIT: Curiousity, you beat me to the punch. Sorry for the redundance. ^^;;

:P

I would add that it's not just enough to have "decent voice acting." The voices need good audio mixing as well. Remember how muddled Reala's line was? In JoD, I want to hear "There is no NiGHTS!" (or whatever it is) clear as a bell if and when it is repeated.

We have so few clues to go on for interpreting this world and if any of those clues are muddled, it had better be intentional.

Too true, my friend.

Momentarily off topic: Am I the only one who DIDN'T hear "there is no NiGHTS?" Whenever I hear Reala speak, it sounds like "ready to run, NiGHTS!" I know that's sounds silly, but hey, like you said, it's all muddled. I was just curious because for many years I wondered where fanfic writers got that line before it was explained to me. ^_^

I never understood the line, and still don't. I thought it sounded vaguely like "There is one NiGHTS", but I just thought it was dream-gibberish with NiGHTS tagged on at the end, like Jackle's death speech.

And I'd like them to keep the maren speaking in completely unrecognizable gibberish in Journey of Dreams, too. I don't care how much the kids talk, as long as I don't understand anything the dream characters say.

Yeah, I'm not sure about the Reala line either. Like I said, it was garbled.

It's just that the consensus seems to be "There is no NiGHTS!" So, I went with the consensus so everyone would understand the example.

Like I said, if this next game is going to include dialogue, we had all better be able to hear it crystal clear.

I also still say "there is one", but I forget what reason made sense to me for why he would say it. They are both the highest ranking, maybe NiGHTS is the competition, you know? Unless its even worse and Reala is doing this Norman Bates thing and wearing NiGHTS's clothes and going on the attack. *plays Psycho music* THERE IS ONE NiGHTS!!

I'd have to wait and see. If they handle it right, voices could work nicely. If not, well... At any rate, I'm on the fence about it.

The whispering's backwards? I just assumed it was gibberish. So, what does the whispering in Jackle's theme actually say then?

A little off-topic here, but I know that everyone always talks about Reala having 'one of the two spoken lines in the entire game' with his "There is no/one/noodle NiGHTS!" So...who's got the other? I've listened to the sound test on the game, and I can't really seem to find anything that's actually 'spoken' clearly, like Reala's line. There seem to be a few gibberish words, like when Jackle and Wizeman die, or one of Puffy's sounds, but I can't find any other actual 'lines' so to speak.

I just couldn't stand to have voices. It's not right, it wouldn't fit. The body language does enough in the original.

my opinion anyway.......

A voice I always imagine for androgynous is a voice a bit like Lumina FlowLight's from Sonic Shuffle, although hers has a more female vibe to it. I would actually like SEGA to have the nightmarens with voices, but they wouldn't do much talking.

Even the origional had voices. Wikipedia says two lines, but I only know the one from Reala. I think voice acting would be a great idea.

Voice acting would be interesting, but far from necessary. I like it without voices, but sometimes voices can give depth that wasn't there, but as stated, they could take away from NiGHTS the very thing that makes it what it is.

Although it wouldn't be the most suiting (I think), but definitely cool, would be someone like Rika Matsumoto for the Japanese voice, along with something else to give it an overtone.
I really like the female and male voice over (as one) idea, and a masculine one for Reala.

I think little lines would be nice in random oments actually. I can imagine "Mada mada Reala" and "NAITSU! Yaro!" to be lines for some reason during a fight between the two.
