Yeah so my brother finaly bought the expansion and i installed it on my GOD pc... though it still runs horrificly slow (i have no idea why as my pc is better than his) and i was wondering how many of you also play this game? I'm sure there was a topic before, but i can't find it :/

DiGi and i wont be online with it for a while but my brother is, I'll get him to come in here later and share his details and stuff incase you want to form a posse.

Apparently all the cool PSO clothes are an event or something that only the JP people have right now :) Or is it true you can unlock them if you do all the quests in offline mode?
I WANT MY GODDAMN NiGHTS HAT BACK!

Actually speaking of PSO i found my old folder yesterday from my old forums when a bunch of us got together and ran around when PSObb was free. Godddamn that was so much FUN (and very hilarious at times).

Ah PSObb, how i missed out on that back then because i was too busy trying to get a girlfriend. *sigh*

Anyways, yes. PSO AotI looks nice. I might try and actually get online with that one day in the future when life is a little less busier for me...plus, i dunno if you've noticed but i don't need to look for a girlfriend now so that's one less thing to do, lol :)

Okay, here's the info you'll be after.

Firstly, your PSO outfit will be added eventually, you will just have to wait. HOWEVER, if you go to the makeover place and change your hair, the (I think second from last selection) PSO hat WILL be there. It should be there in offline too, but I don't know for sure, I haven't done.....well, anything in offline mode. (Did the episode 2 story in the online mode before AotI)
Secondly, as my signature states, you will be very interested to know, in the casino you can buy a music disc for it to play Dreams Dreams, the original adult version, whenever your in the room, provided you have one of the new room tickets, in the online mode.

I wish I knew you guys back at the time the beta for BB was free. Ki only convinced me to join this crazy place of wonder (the old one) a few weeks after. I did manage to run into a few people....and I didn't leave all of them in deadly, life-threatening situations... XD

Finally, PSU ran very slow at first for me too, but thats because the game startsz with its options set up for the recommended stat computer...my laptop only meets minimum stats and a little more.
Fortunately, though, that means I know how to make the game run faster (Perhaps not as smooth, but definitely faster). When the Menu comes up for the online/offline/website/blether...go to options, and on the graphics section, hit custom (probably obvious stating there). Now really, to quicken the game, without affecting the graphics that much, you should alter the frameskip (should be at 0 initially). Just set it to 1 or 2, you shouldn't need any higher than that...if it persists, might as well throw it up to 3. If you want to try, you could mess about with the other stuff first...but nothing else I tried worked as effectively.

Elsewise, all I can do is suggest to see what other programs are running in the background. If your using Vista for example, temporarily closing your sidebar might help.

Some of the new monsters are simply awesome. Whereas others are awesome remakes of old monsters...
Spoiler

Some of the new photon arts too are simply stunning and Ikk Hikk is fantasticly hilarious, think drunken monkey fist fighting.

My sig and avater are testament; I play PSU ( a lot ). XD

GC's pretty much already worded my thoughts on the content of AotI, so I'll just second the motion that Ikk Hikk is made of awesome. If it's not a homage to Shun Di, I'll be surprised XD

Haha, your mentioning of the PSObb folder reminds me I have like a bajillion PSU screenshots on my PC here D:

XD I tried to leave him and Ki whilst I went to the chippy, but they were polite poultry and waited for my return.

Then Ki brb'ed and left us fighting for sweet honeypots against angry protestors of the Neudaiz temple. Was still fun, though. XD

Yeah, the peeps you make offline can't be used online....mainly because its much easier to get rarer items offline. It is a shame...and thats why I don't really play offline, since I know the story already.

I hope the tips I've given helps your game run better.

Hmmm, I wonder if I should make Booma's for The Sims 2. It would be easier if there was an 'eat flesh' aspiration.

I play PSU frequently as well, although I am really bummed right now because I'm actually on the Xbox servers. Now we can't slay Koltovas together :P

Seriously though guys, offline can't even compare to online. There are a lot of cool features to encourage community interaction, such as opening a shop in your room. You should get online ASAP. Hell, I'm almost tempted to say I'd pay for your monthly fee for a while, even with the US dollar being worth as little as it is. That's how much I feel you're missing out on the true PSU experience.

Two more things to TRiPPY and DiGi. First, what are your race and class and what class are you aiming for? Second, between the the sites listed below, you should be able to find everything you'll ever need to know about PSU.

PSO-World
PSUpedia

I may not be able to play with you, but I can always offer advice.

As far as I'm concerned, the only things PSU doesn't do better than PSO is:

-Soundtrack-PSO had one of the best soundtacks ever and PSU doesn't even come close.
-Art direction-PSU's player characters look fine, but the level and enemy design leaves a bit to be desired.
-Level atmosphere-Ruins>HIVE
-Enemy names-At least in episode 1 & 2 I could actually remember them. None of this stupid stuff they're doing now. What do you prefer, Rag Rappy or Gol Verdananukodashlakabaka? Get my point?

haha, I have to agree with most of those points there, apart from maybe the monster designs. Some are pretty hideous( pretty much all the robots ), but others are really quite awesome. Kogg Nadd and those... scorpion things in the Black Nest come to mind.

I agree whole heartedly about the enemy names, though D: I was playing for months before I could remember what half of the things were called. Booma, Rag Rappy, Evil Shark... names like those are so easy to remember. Ubakrada, Kamatoze, Drua Gohra and the likes... oyyy D:

I'm sorry, but I really need to enter 'defense mode' here for PSU.

Some aspects of PSO being better than PSU were discussed, but there was nothing said about the things which make PSU better than PSO.

I do agree that PSO was awesome, anyone who knows me will testify to my love for it...I used to create a jaw-related-flood back in 1999 when I saw the adverts for the game. Really, the whole reason I bought a Game Cube was to play Ep 1 & 2.
I also do agree that playing PSU after PSO, it seems a fair bit lacking...but I really do protest that you need to play the game a fair bit before you pick it up, you need to level your photon arts and unlock the higher classes before you can really get a feel for PSU. (Side note, I really do wish we had De Rol Le's old music)

First of all, there are photon arts. Some of these are comical, like Ikk Hikk; awe inspiring, like Splendor Crush; sheer destructful ones, like Anga Jabroga: Anyway you look at it, though, these are beautiful and whether long and strong, or weak but fast, they introduce a complexity and strategy which makes PSO's "hit, strong hit, strong hit" style of action look like trying to rub two sticks together to make a fire, in direct comparison to a flamethrower.

The palette, too, is a major upgrade....I do heartily admit, I miss the ability of 'one button-press' to use a healing item, but the weapons side is a great improvement, in particular having a saber and a handgun active at the same time. Very nice then, that they allow 6 different arrangements to be set-up at once...although, I do admit...it didn't really change too much (I still carry a lot more weapons thatn I can actually have equipped, at any one time. It can't hurt to be prepared.)

Besides these, there's item synthesis, NPC characters, Partner Machinery which can fight alongside you (however dense it may be XD), a much improved way of levelling techniques (which also applies to skills and bullets in PSU), levels with more depth- more hills, ramps and stairs than ever before.

Also, Casts can now cast Technics, if like every other race, they are currently a -techer type or a force....and all classes can have auto-recovery, with the right equipment, casts don't have it naturally...also, all classes can lay traps dependant on the type they are.
-While many people may disagree to these equalities, they are sticking true to one central theme of the main plot- which is the equality between races.
Although, beasts do get nanoblasts and casts do get SUVs, they help to individualize the characters, but humans and newmans are not left out, being able to take advantage of the "Crea" or what the should really be translated as (at least, so I'm told...) "Claire".

Here's a few things better in PSO which were missed out on though: Grinding- although present in PSU, I heartily dislike it, even after it stopped breaking your weapons.
Materials- No materials in PSU, D:
Factions- They had this in Bue Burst, alas, it seemed to stay there.
Guild Colours- the lack of guild colours making all rare drops the same for everyone, kinda removes the need to make characters of different colours to find new stuff. However, since some stuff (off the top of my head, Svaltus Sword.) are insanely difficult to find. This could be for the best.

As for the naming thing, I remember the names fairly well....given that theres like 20x more enemies in PSU, and a fair few are reskins. The main exceptions are rogues, AMF casts, temple protectors, and any robot which is not bigger than me....and even then I have an easy solution- they attack me, therefore they are 'the enemy'. I say this because I really don't see this as much of an issue.
Much like "Eggman" or "Robotnik", the long and short of it is they are 'the enemy'. I'd much rather adopt DiGi's solution, rename the blighter, odds are everyone will know, or soon discover what you're on about. I still call Bul Buna and the Neudaiz equivalent as 'the worms'.

Basically, what I mean is, most of the differences which PSO players might dislike are fairly small differences, as they experiment with the new environment, they'll get used to the change and notice they're not all bad things.
I, honestly, couldn't go back and play PSO now- with the same spirit (I have tried)....it feels a bit boring now...especially now with "Lupus Silva" (not the inspiration for the name of my Beast) making a comeback.

So... judging from the previous posts I'm guessing its recommended. Well, I've only played the offline mode witch I think was the main thing that turned me away (I also don't like the timers at the top of the screen they annoy me greatly for some reason...) but I really haven't gone deep enough into the game I suppose... very well I'll try ta look inta online mode wish me luck, oh, and if ya don't mind me asking how different is the online mode from the offline (besides obvious stuff like multiplayer, custom characters, and more mishes?) thanks again. :)

Well i used to play online with PSU and just like PSO the main *GOOD* thing about online is the community, showing off your character and weapons and being able to learn/trade/find things thanks to other players. It just feels more *real* and immersive to know the people you're running past in the lobby arent all stupid grey people. The game sort of 'comes to life' is the best way to put it.

Of course, everything I said in my last post, is a matter of personal opinion. XD

TRiPPY's point is probably THE most important....for any and all MMO's they can only be as fun as the people you know- once people start disappearing and you end up all alone, thats generally when you get bored or fed up with the game....and if you know people who play the game from other sources, it helps a great deal...

The defining point of PSU is the customizability of your character...you get to choose all your photon arts, level them individually, choose your type, level that individually...and the clothing/face variation alongside make it much more unique for each player. (I played Final Fantasy XI for example, and all the 'Hume's' look identical, besides hair colour and costume, that just didn't feel right to me)

Basically, I would reccommend PSU, so long as you can find/build a few people to play with.

Right. I've been watching DeZ play PSU with you two (GC and Avenrir) for a few days now and i really want to play this bloody thing online because it looks extremely cool. I do have some questions though so maybe you could help me out here.... i'd ask DeZ but he's a complete git and all he keeps telling me is "get your arse online!" regardless of what i ask him XD;;

Firstly, me and TRiP had been playing it offline for a bit only to be told that you can't take your offline character's online. I must say that this is probably the most shabbiest aspect of the game so far because i used to play PSO on the Dreamcast and whenever i wasn't able to go online i would still be able to level-up my character offline. This way when i was able to get back online all my friends wouldn't be 500 something levels ahead of me.
If i was to start playing this online how much time do i need to put into it to keep myself on a respectable level with you guys and DeZ? On average, how many hours a week would be needed?
Bare in mind i also have other commitments too, like help run this place, college, iMAGNi related business and i can't afford to get too side-tracked by PSU.
That goes for TRiP too.

Secondly, DeZ has his Xbox controller wired up to his PC and he plays the game like that. He says it's much easier than using the keyboard to control the characters. I've played a bit offline with using the keyboard and i find it a little difficult to use the keys (there's a lot for me to remember, lol) so would it be worth me using a controller too? I'd have to buy one i suppose though.

Thirdly, if and when i do start up i am gonna be starting from the ground up. Level one and onwards ^^;; Obviously i wanna join your little 'crew' since i know you guys but at what level would i need to be to actually go on missions with you all and not get my arse handed to me the second i step into the place?

Me and TRiP will obviously take it in turns to run with you guys since there's two of us and only one computer here ^^;

I do agree, not being able to level up offline kinda does suck...actually, a fair deal of suckage, if you are used to playing offline...and I never did get online with PSO, until Blue Burst, so I know how it feels. Alas, you will need to create new characters.

The good news is, I have a fair range of character levels, as does Ki, both of us, having one at levels 100+, one close to DeZ's level, and two ones at much lower status.
It is harder to level online than offline, but it has been made a bit easier with AotI, but we can use some of our lower level characters to hang out with you guys and help you to raise your levels somewhat. My lowest level at the moment, if I recall correctly is level 14. Plus, if you figure out which type of character you are aiming for, I can try and scrape together a recommended "Starter set" of items I can give you to help you on your way

On terms of time, I dunno, but theres an event named "Maximum Attack: G" coming in April....and if its anything like the 1UpCup in terms of exp bonus...the levels will fly. When the 1 Up Cup took place, I started at roughly level 60, and by the end of the month I was about level 90....pretty much a level per day on average, with ridiculous amounts of exp required. Although, I was on the gmae 'most' of the time. XD

If I were to take a guess, if you could get maybe 2 hours per week day during the MA:G, if the experience is comparable to the 1 Up Cup, we could at least get you to level 40...I'd estimate. since the event takes a month, give or take. I could even go Smyte, and use only support spells, until we reach the bosses, or large mega-HP monsters, then use my main foie/diga to perhaps help you out further.

Hmmm, the controller issue is down to personal taste, I figure. The last time I used the keyboard I played really well, but I think I was being overly cautious, because I'm used to the controller. I would suggest you get your mits on one if/when possible. Perhaps even just borrow Dez's if he's not using it...until you get your own. Right now, I wouldn't remember what half the keys do.

It does sound like you'll be starting at level 1. However, there are some great missions now, which can help you to unlock the advanced classes fairly quickly, once you get there, you can start using good weapons, obviously you kill stuff faster and thus level faster. (This is where Silva comes in complaining about you 'whipper-snappers' having an easy time, as such missions didn't exist when she was a lass XD).
Of course, it might take a little while before you reach the requirements for some weapons...but thats always the case, right. ^^

Dang, I've got myself craving to play now. XD

Well, GC's went and ninja'd pretty much the stuff I was going to say ( curse you! XD ), so I'll just chime in with this:

Control pad. For the love of all things fluffy, use the control pad. I find it's a nightmare with the keyboard. D8 Simple things like strafing can be annoying as it might spit a 'too many keys pressed' error ( or it does on my computer ). That, and it's not too friendly on the wrists.

It really is the best to sign up, we can help get you used to the game, get you some good stuff and start the levelling process, and you'll be ready just in time for the MA:G where you can really catch up quickly, and even find some cool stuff along the way. You'll also see a lot of familiar faces.

Can't wait to see what your characters will look like and what types you'll want to play.

Anyways, i couldn't take it anymore, i started playing last night with the shabby keyboard settings and got my character to lvl 6 ...but i was awake until 3am playing it XD;;;; i slipped up already.

AoI has been out in the states since November last year. If you're playing it on PS2 or PC, you have to buy the expansion in a store. However, if you're playing on Xbox 360 you buy the expansion from Live Marketplace.

Hey DiGi, what's your race and class? What are you aiming for? Also, don't worry about leveling. It only gets easier.

Ya I head it was out... but ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THE STORES IN MY CITY HAVE HAD ANY SHIPMENTS OF THAT BLEEDIN GAME AT ALL!!!!!! kinda ticks me off...

you know what I miss thats not in PSU?
the red item boxes... I don't know what it was but whenever I saw one I would have a lil party on the inside (till I found out it was another Last Survivor sword) but when I got something rare in PSU I'd simply think "hey higher attack" *equip* What was it about those boxes? Was it the shade of red? How much it stood out from the orange, blue, and green colored boxes? Now in PSU you get a... what the heck is that thing supposed ta be anyway? looks like a square cracker with something floating over it (no it doesn't look like a weapon). Well I'll let ya know when I get my mitts on that game.

XD That's oh so very true. Smyte used to chase those boxes on sight. In PSU when I see the red items, its usually 'oh, another material'.

The S2 mishes, well most of them, when you see a "board" type item, though, it still piques an interest.

I think my friends must be tired of hearing me complain about how the red items just aren't RED enough. I agree with you 100% on this. XD They look more reddish grey to me. I also find it incredibly easy to run past one without even noticing it's there. They just... don't stick out much.

I could see the old PSO red items a mile off and, even though I KNEW it was probably going to be another Diska of Bravemen, I'd always make a bee line for it, anyway. Because, as GC's Smyte would say, "omg, RED ITEM!" XD

Just a heads up to say that the PlaySEGA billing site is currently down, and with it, the ability to log in to the PC/PS2 game, so if you get the 'error 60, failed to recognise SEGA ID' message whilst trying to log in, that's why.

People who logged in and were playing before the site went down can continue playing, provided they don't log off for any reason, including changing characters, as then they too will get the error.

360-side seems fine since it's using Live.

Speculation is that it won't be up till Monday when they get back to the offices, but we'll just have to wait and see, eh?

Thats just plain awful luck, being unable to nab a copy. Its not even that long out yet, realistically.

aaaand, the error is still there, so it does seem to be a wait till Monday thing. Seriously, you'd think they'd have at least a back up team of maintenace guys for the weekends. The time they loaded the rare monster mission they were certainly on top of it very quickly- then again, that wasn''t Easter weekend.

Merry fattening everyone. ^^

Oh, dear XD How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Babes, you couldn't make it to the Casino in one piece XP lol
BUT FEAR NOT FOR I, VALENTINE, THE GREEN CHARACTER WITH THE SWORDS, SHALL RUN THROUGH MOATOOB AND GET YOU THE COINS THAT ARE REQUIRED TO BUY YOU YOUR PINK BEDROOM!!!! *raises sword to sky and looks mighty* :o :o :o

Speaking of which, GC and Kiara. Thanks for everything you've done for me since i started on this game. GC for showering me with so many gifts (omg photon arts) and Kiara for keeping me alive all the time, lol XD;; I know it's tough having to babysit but thanks for making sure i don't die. With you two (and DeZ even though he gets side-tracked to MSN messenger mid-Moatoob run) helping me i am able to level up quite quickly. ^_^

I'm setting myself a goal. First i need to become a Fortefighter...and then i'm making it my mission throughout this entire experience to hunt down an Agito and weild that bad boy for all it's worth XD
It's gonna take a long time but that's gonna be my own personal quest for this game. Consider my search for the Agito Repca to be what Soul Edge is to all those crazy cats in Soul Calibur 3. *nods* ^_^ ....that and i need to get my wifey her pink gothic bedroom XD;;; FOR YOU, MY LOVE!!! :D

No problem with the gear, its what us rich mentors are meant to do. XD

I just wish I could help with the keeping you alive bit, all Evergreen can do is drown you in gifts and shoot stuff. xD

As I said before, once we get you to Fortefighter, I'll give you some much better things too, I would give them to you already, but you can't use A ranks and I don't think I have much spares left. I'll have to make you up a batch. XD

The first mission, becoming fortefighter, we can totally do, no problem. The second...well, I'll just say this, I haven't seen an agito repca yet...buuut I haven't exactly been looking. I'm not a fan of the HIVE due to the megid spewing which occurs commonly.

Bruv, the chips are burnt. You fail. ^_^

But, yes. I agree with the idea of getting as many NiGHTS fans onto PSU. It will be quite cool. We should discuss this more between us and then make a topic about it as to not go off topic with this one. ^_^
