NiD.Com meetup

RIGHT it's come to my attention that this fanbase is way overdue some sort of community day trip. I mean we have Auchinawa but that's no use for USA people or other such countries as the first attempt proved. I want an actual proper NiD.com meet, like a picnic or something, a daytrip someplace fun... like to a themepark or something.
I'm not saying anything concrete but I'd like to hear everyones ideas, thoughts and input on this possibly happening some time in 2009 (definately summer).
Obviously it would have to be more than 1 event in different areas of the world.
What sort of stuff would you like to do?
Man i swear if i was a millionaire I'd fly everyone to one place, feed you all and party into the small hours of the afternoon.

It would be great to have everyone bring their wiimotes and Saturn controllers for some NiGHTs play time and paper for some serious drawing.
Also I hope Trippy brings lots of strawberry cakes!!Ahem, sorry for this litlle outburst and I blame that Mario CD I game.

They would never make it to the event. I have something of a black hole anomaly (also known as my face) around pastry goods.
Maybe if i welded them into a metal crate D:

Summer 09 for me is when I'm moving out to Washington for Graduate School, so while things may be hectic for me, I won't be under my parents jurisdiction anymore and will be free to travel. I know many others probably won't be as lucky though...
So maybe, since we live all over the place, we can all meet at a theme park in our respective timezones? It's not exactly reasonable to say everyone in each country meet up at a single theme park since some countries are bigger than others.
You know what else would be cool? If we did like a secret santa type dealy where we each bring a NiGHTS-based present and anonymously give them out to each other at the event.
I like Meggiemaccat's idea of live video feeds of each location. Maybe we can do something with that too?
AND I like Diogothedreamer's drawing idea...we should definitely have some kind of drawing timeslot/event. So many of us are dA members after all. XD

That was TRiPPY's idea; I'm just putting holes in it like the pessimistic thing I am. ^^;I like Meggiemaccat's idea of live video feeds of each location.

Then there's various events which lots of people will probably want to visit. Like me for instance, last year I visited brighton for the Develop conference and drinks with some undustry folk, was fun, and cheap! (£16 by train from bournemouth). Then there's the Game Career Fair where SEGA, RARE and other studios go to pick up new employees and give talks on animation, design, art, programming. (£23 from bournemouth to london including day pass on the underground)
Maybe we should have a thread for various events people will be going to, which people could meet up at.
We do have a calendar on this forum, like anyone uses it.

I'm thinking of making it look like a convention and hold it at a rec. or convention center. It's a big place where all of us can probably cram in and it has power outlets. Nyclone like power outlets. *drools*
I wouldn't drool near the power outlets...
A meeting doesn't have to be extravegant, it could just be getting together and going shopping, or bowling, or any kind of activity you do with friends, you could hang out at someone's place, which is usually fine if there's lots of you. Can cosplay, play games etc.

*Stops drooling* I meant a place where we could use our Wii, be a big space where we can all meet up, and where most of the general public wouldn't give a second thought about seeing what's going on. And it would have to be a pretty big mall, or bowling alley, or house for about 900 people to fit. Oh, and Kitsune, I'm 11, so there isn't any fear of being the youngest, as that title belongs to me. XD

No Nyclone, I think the major issue will be our Parents. They wont like the idea of me with a bunch of people I met on the internet. Besides...They would probably be there..and I dont want that. >_>
And they're probably right. Which is why public events are good places to meet people. So things like the Game Career Fair, or a convention or something like that might be a good place to meet.
And considering alot of people here are quite young, 16 or under, ti sounds like a better idea to meet at a public event first. Because when meeting anybody for the first time, a public place or event is great, you can see them before they see you, if things go wrong, you're in public, so you can just walk away, you can even bring someone with you.
Private meetups are better for people who've met before. so after awhile, a mix of public and private events for local clusters might be good.
Of course that's just my opinion.

I'll throw in the suggestion of meeting up close to where those people live. Again though, that might not work out, but who knows at this point, right?
For all those in/near Western Canada, may I offer the Calgary Stampede? :3

Answer? We could make a map, and anyone that's interested in meeting up can put a marker down on or near where they live, then you can see where people are clustered. Could even put event markers down to signify local events.

That's a good idea, I want to see how many people live close to me. I already know Prince is right over there in Georgia! Yo Prince, I want to go to college in Georgia!http://www.frappr.com/

So, yea... Good idea. I'll only be 17 in the summer of 2009 so I won't be able to go far. Though a lot of my friends are talking about having a road trip that same year, I wasn't going to go but they could drop me off somewhere and pick me I just realized that was about the crappiest idea I've ever had.

I don't know how many of us are located in Florida (or how many would come down here for that matter) but I would love to one day go to the Universal Studios Islands of Adventure here. And TRiPPY and DiGi, you shall come and melt in the sun! >:0 Orrr just spend all day on the Popeye the Sailor rides, where you can stay cool in the water rides. XD
Other than that, a get together for a cook out or something at a nice park would be awesome. I like that kind of stuff, but rarely get to do that with friends. :/
Yeah I know, it isn't necessarily gonna happen/possible, but I guess I like those ideas..

I can't afford to fly anyone out, but I sure can supply snacks.
Srsly, we have TONS of land to party at and riot.
Saunas, barbecue pits. Those of you who haven't sauna'd in the winter should really try it, the steam that pours off of you
when you step into the outside air is awesome.
Warning to anyone allergic to animals: We have 3 dogs.
Hmm, I'm not sure how much people we can fit in the house...
*Sigh* I hope we can get together soooooooooooon.

If it was somewhere like in Scotland it would prove to be very hard to go as I never been there and would problably get lost.

- In order to add a location, you need to have a google account (gmail, adsense, etc) and be a collaberator. Open collaberation means anyone with a google account can edit the map, or it's invite by e-mail/account for collaberation.
- Collaberators can edit ANYTHING. I've tested this with an alt account, with open collaberation I was able to come in and delete my own test location.
- There's a weird bug at the moment, when you add or edit a pointer, it dissapears when you save and/or click "Done". You have to refresh the page to see the waypoint again.
And now the good points:
- It's 100 times easier to use, click and drag, use yoru scroll wheel to zoom in and out
- Same goes for pointers, you can click and drag them anywhere, making them easier and more accurate to place
- Each pointer can be customised down to look, description etc.
- "Add to MyMaps" means you can access it at any time
- It works 99.9% of the time. Frappr just seems to fail almost every time I use it
- You can DRAW on the map (okay, basic lines and shapes, but still...)
Current test (Collab by invite only for now): http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&i...c41cc2da6e4c7dc

That's really neat (though it seems there's a risk of moving someone else's pin by mistake, especially in areas where the pins would be rather clustered together). You can zoom quite a bit, though (so close you can see some individual streets), so maybe that's not so much of a problem as I think. However, since you can zoom so close, if you stick the pin exactly or as close as possible to where you live, that's just/almost as good as posting your address, which isn't exactly safe since anyone can zoom on it. Oo; *smacks self for putting more holes in it* Meh, the map's probably not accurate enough for that to be too much of a concern, and it gives a wonderful sense of exactly where we all are in the world. ^-^
Frappr wants an exact address, so wtih this you can place it on, or just closeby. I placed it inthe centre of my village, but I could just plonk it in the nearby town too. The added customisability I think is more secure than "Marker goes where Frappr wants it". The possible vandalism is the one thing making me instantly use it. For now I'm playing with it, adding event locations etc.
Frappr is the same, I can come down right on top of TRiPPY's house... =P *cue creepy music*

Haha, but that's probably inaccurate now, since they've moved (though I suppose it's still pretty close since... to my memory... they were able to stay in the same area). ^-^I can come down right on top of TRiPPY's house... =P *cue creepy music*
Anyway, yeah, Google map's better than Frappr, then.
Regardless of whether or not I'm able to show up to any of these, I'd like to stick a pin on this thing.
