The next kids in a NiGHTS game

I'd want them to maybe act a little differently with the characters and the overall theme. Like instead of having one culture why not mix things up a bit. Maybe like a African kid and a Hispanic kid or an Australian kid and an Asian kid. Perhaps the sports theme could involve an extreme sport instead of your typical one. Say skateboarding or BMX. Maybe music doesn't have to play a role. Maybe art could take over music for that one game. The artistic kid could be into fan art and have drawings of some Sonic characters or other SEGA characters.

Excuse me?Gagged.
Oh lol. I was like wuh? I agree with you Louis.lol, he means they don't say a word
I agree with your thoughts though, an artistic kid, or the child of Marissa Delbressine's "Beyond the Window". Srsly, that kid in "Beyond the Window" has way more emotional depth than Will or Helen could ever hope to convey. Those damn cut scenes..
A Van Gogh styled 'Starry Night' esque dreamscape would be insane.
I'd also like to see a child similar to the one in "Beyond the Window." A child with a disability would have a deeper impact on us than Will and Helen.

Personally I'd definitely like to see a little racial variety with the kids. Not all dreamers are white. And not just cultural difference, either... maybe we could have some different backgrounds, physical qualities, and things like that. I'd pay to see a kid with a little weight set as a leading role like that.
And I'd love to see different aspects as well-- the artistic bit you mentioned being a marvelously good idea. Plus, it would give many of us artsy fans someone to closely relate to.

I agree wholeheartedly with both those points as well. Marissa's movie was stunningly gorgeous; and that's the sort of dreamer this series can use, 100%.
And Van Gogh! Dear heavens, that man was incredible. And how perfect would 'Starry Night' be in this game?
If anything, inspirational figures like him should get a NiGHTS-style shoutout as well... not just Jung and Freud, who we all seem to recognize in the psychological depths of this beloved series.

Oh wait, was that too specific?

lol No but I think that'd get a T rating or maybe higher due to a heightened sense of discomfort. My own daytime musings involve a college-aged student named Aubrie who is trapped in a coma due to a violent car crash for an indefinite amount of time, wears a hospital gown and has broken bones poking out of her left arm and a broken skull that reveals unprotected brain matter. She enjoys ballet and her studies.

And for good reason. We need to explore Nightmare a little more, lol...maybe get to know a little bit more about NiGHTS's past since I've only created one "dreamer".lol No but I think that'd get a T rating or maybe higher due to a heightened sense of discomfort.

Since you put it that way perhaps we could see a dreamer who's a dying middle aged murderer who's regretting everything he has done now that he's dying. You know cuz that's what EVERYONE does when they are about to die. So like every night he ends up in Nightmare and he sees Nightopia but he can't reach it. So maybe NiGHTS sees this "poor" guy and decides to help him out. Like NiGHTS helps him get over his past as a last wish. Of course the dreams will be filled with some sick and twisted stuff but as the game goes on maybe the dreams could get more positive. For example, the entire game is just this long night and throughout that night you play from the levels in Nightmare all the way to the levels in Nightopia. And for good reason. We need to explore Nightmare a little more, lol...maybe get to know a little bit more about NiGHTS's past since I've only created one "dreamer".
Oh and since he's dying NiGHTS might look a little, dry, so to speak. Like he/she is gray and blackish in color when they dualize. I dunno it's just my imagination.

that, um, would be over-doing it. (You're making me think of Shadow the Hedgehog...goodness gracious, enough people complain about Journey of Dreams.) Drama is something that is easily overdone, and can switch a story from appetizingly entertaining to overdramatic as quick as lightning. Though Aubrie suffers from her broken body, there's a reason it's there--if mostly for NiGHTS's character development. How quick would you be willing to save the life of someone who looked like they had no more life to save? Would he Dualize with someone even, each time, he felt his own body become broken? A story of true selflessness.
And a lot more people would be able to relate to a car crash victim than a middle-aged murderer.

All that was from the top of my head. I was thinking about Sin City at the time. I personally would rather that be a fan made type of game or something. NiGHTS should never go the route of Shadow the Hedgehog lol and yeah more people can relate to car crashes.
Of course. Mute kids = special and more respectable kids.I really like the idea of having non-white kids from a different culture. Africa is probably the least-represented continent in video games and has a lot of aesthetic potential. I am also a big fan of the kids being mute.

Maybe more dire circumstances? But I think they portrayed the despair of the children quite well without hurting the story, but I think it might exentuate the freedom of flight and the importance of the ideas behind the ideya a bit more. No problem making it a bit darker- doesn't mean it has to be rated higher, just creates a larger contrast.
So yeah, maybe a tad more conflict with the children, without being melodramatic.

And then the boy should should be in a band, maybe the guitarist. And he'd have mondo stage fright, but have to get over it for his friends and himself.
And if SEGA steals this idea...
(lol)

In my opinion there are enough blonde haired and blue eyed video game characters such as Samus and Link as well as Cloud. Video games need more cultures than that of European and American.I, too, would like to see dreamers who aren't white. Also, maybe have more serious problems, like violent bullying at school or abusive parents. Also, none of this "blonde hair, blue eyes, thin as a model" nonsense. Bring me dreamers with substance!

If they put in a black dreamer because they wanted black game players to relate to that character, it's like saying: "Oh, you're black! Hey, I know someone else that's black! You guys will be BEST friends!" not considering the fact that the two individuals might be polar opposites.
I'm not trying to persuade people into believing anything. I'm just throwing it out there for consideration.

Not necessarily. If they make sure to treat the dreamer like any other kid and not go "ZOMG look at how typical black/asian/[insert any minority] s/he is~" they could probably pull it off. That said, they do need to be careful so we won't have something like the Token MinorityIf they put in a black dreamer because they wanted black game players to relate to that character, it's like saying: "Oh, you're black! Hey, I know someone else that's black! You guys will be BEST friends!" not considering the fact that the two individuals might be polar opposites.

Something like that?

My idea currently has the 20 year old rediscovering her inner child (who better than NiGHTS to bring THAT out? XD) and confronting some unresolved issues that are making adjusting to college difficult. The 11 year old boy, on the other hand, is an exceptional student and multi-talented, but he feels like he's under a lot of pressure to perform from his parents and his teachers and is very afraid of ever letting them down. Despite the differences in their ages, the two have a lot in common as it turns out.
The above is just an example of what I'd like to see if this approach is ever taken. Not only do I think we'd get a great story out of it and a whole new view of Nightopia, but an older character would us older fans someone we can more easily relate to, thereby making such a game more memorable for us.

A concept I'm quite fond of but not entirely sure if it could work in a NiGHTS-game is "trapped in a dream". Sort of like in 9thElsewhere or Mirrormask. The Dreamer would have to finish the game to be able to wake up again, and at the same time be forced to resolve mental issues.

I think the thing is, I still want the simple storybook style story telling. I don't want them to be over-characterised, I definately don't want too much drama. It would take away from the dreamy feel of the game IMO.

Also, I would be TOTALLY up for a T rated NiGHTS game. That would be hella awesome. I had a dreamer idea about a college-age guy, too. One of those kids who's really smart but forgets/neglects to work and starts drowning in his own procrastination. It would be really interesting to see the archetypes popping up in that guy's head, not to mention how he would personify NiGHTS.

Honestly, I think that there's something incredibly charming about the nondescript, stereotypical kids featured in NiGHTS. Plus, I think that if they included blatantly DIFFERENT and DIVERSE races, it'd look like a stupid stereotype. LULZ HERES UR BLAK KID SO THAT WE DUN GET SUED
I think it's sad that people actually notice black people enough that it sticks out as a token thing. Seriously. I disagree with this anyway; a black kid could just be put in so that the cast has more... realism, almost? I actually notice, when there's an all white cast, the absence of blacks, or asians, or whoever, not because it's 'racist' or whatever but just... 'This doesn't look right, there would be different colours in there.'

Maybe they should have a Make Your Own Dreamer thingy, like some Tony Hawk games do...
heheh.
I think while it might not work for a main story mode... it could be kinda awesome for online wi-fi, couldn't it? =P

And I think that they should axe the voice acting and maybe make sure that there are no on-foot levels.

Antonio is African-American, and when he was very little his psychotic uncle got drunk and shoved him out a window, ruining both his legs and putting him in a wheelchair. This sort of crushed his dream of becoming a dancer. Y'know. Just a little. Now he lives with his aunt in a modest two-story home in the suburban part of town. His aunt divorced the drunken man and now Mr. Drunken Fool is behind bars where he belongs. Tony is 16 years old.
Angelica lives in the really crappy part of town, in a broken down old hovel of an apartment where hearing that a murder DIDN'T happen the night before is cause for celebration. Her family got into a car accident when she was young, killing all but her and her older brother. She lives with him now, and now has a prosthetic right arm, and has no right eye thanks to a melting support frame of an SUV. Her brother escaped with half his spinal column gone and no left arm. He's got a fake one too. But she wanted to be a great painter, but she can't hold a paintbrush anymore thanks to her "Barbie-arm." She's 15 years old.

Different cultures/backgrounds are worthless since the self-development is supposed to be a universal appeal that applies to many people. A person involved in a car crash could be interesting based on how they develop, but an elderly woman can also develop and be interesting (so there doesn't need to be a gritty background for somebody to develop).
In short, the characters shouldn't need a face for us to identify them. Kind of similar to reading a book without illustrations; you can get a general idea of what they are, but you build their appearance based on your own interpretations.
In short short, YAY FANART.

I agree with Birdy; I wanna see a female gymnist. Or maybe a tough girl who plays lacrosse and ignores her feminine side, giving her self-confidence issues in the realm of dating since all the guys are terrified of her.
I also wanna see a boy painter who gets bullied by his peers for being 'girly', and is faced with the choice of continuing to be bullied or folding to peer pressure and giving up what he loves. And maybe NiGHTS can help him find a way to both keep painting and be accepted socially.
I'd also like to see lacrosse-chick and painter-boy hook up by the end of the game in a cliche sappy-happy 'they lived happily ever after' way. XDDD
Also, I second the notion of Make-A-Dreamer for Wi-Fi things. 8DDD
