It really angers me how frustrating the controls are in JOD. Anyone who played the original with a D-Pad will know what I'm talking about. I can move Helen and Will around with the D-Pad but I have to use the POINTER to move NiGHTS? That isn't really sticking with the original, now is it, Sega? A lot of people never had the 3D controller. I, for one, got it years and years later and hated using it. I love the D-Pad. Why did they ditch it?

I think all the other ways of control in JOD sucks. The GC controller lags, there is nothing to hold onto with the nun chuck (My fingers/hand keep slipping) and the pointer, as I stated before, sucks.

I wish there was an option to use the D-Pad not everything... Like the OLD days. Why does all the Next-gen controls have to suck? Seriously, old school controls need to be brought back as an option in a lot of the newer games. I'm really getting sick of bad controls.

I thoguht this the very first time I started plalying the game. I never got the analog controller for NiD so I have always had to play with the D-pad. At times its a lot better than analog really and helps with making things very precise. But it hurts your tumb to hell and gives you a blister if you play for 3 days for many many hours......

So when I go and use the GC controller, I utterly sucked massive ass cuz I was not used to this. Even when I did get used to it, it was still bad because the GC controller just isn't anygood. But its better than the nunchuck or or wii remote. (Also, using the Black GC controller has a bit of a grip thing on it. It doesn't work SUPER well, but its better than the normal controller.)

The only time I use the Wii remote for this game is for the Concert stage. It ACTUALLY makes that level a whole lot easier.

This has always worried me though when I first heard of the Wii remote. I knew some games just wouldn't work well with it. NiGHTS is one of them. Sonic Riders is the other..............

I would rather use the D pad and I wish it had that option.
I have the 3d pad for my Saturn and it makes the nunchuck and Gamecube control feel like crap in comparison. I'm not keen on the Wii remote at all.
It's resulted in a lot of crappy tacked on control systems for otherwise decent games. The only thing I like to use it for is Wii Sports. <_<

A little digital control on the remote would be a nice option, but in a modern console gaming world where discreet inputs (on/off) are as behind the times as disco, you just had to know it wasn't going to happen. Don't get me wrong, I personally couldn't stand the "mindsight" bullcrap and the unintuitive, messy motion controls, but I wish there was another control option.

The Gamecube controller handles adequately enough for me to play, but yeah the response feels a bit sloppier than the practically perfect tuning of the Saturn classic and I still can't do as well as I can on the original. The 8-notch stick is only part of it; the actual response is like a frame or two delayed (most likely Sega using double-buffering instead of VSync...on a 30 fps game...of all the cheap tactics >_<).

Anyway, Yes. A straight-up D-Pad option would have been nice.

Admittedly, I can't use the 3-D controller for sh!t when I play NiD. This time around, I've fully adjusted, so I don't care either way, but it would be more comfortable, for nostalgic reasons I guess. The analog doesn't seem to have changed my gameplay. But this is just personally. I see you and Loren have issues with the analog, so I'd imagine a few people must.

Personally, I find that within NiD, because I got it after JoD, I had to really adjust to the D-pad ((seeing as I was sent a faulty 3D pad, curse that seller)). I grew to love the D-pad but still prefer to play JoD with the GC controller. Maybe it's because I'm used to playing with analog...

I always, always use the analog control for NiD, so I really wouldn't use a D-Pad much, but I'm ALL for an adapter that lets us plug in old controllers to new consoles. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to use my Saturn controls on my Dreamcast for Marvel vs. Capcom (never could get my hands on a decent 6 button pad for my DC), and it would be great to be able to use the Saturn pad for JoD.

But it really does make a nice improvement to round out the nunchuk's octagon housing. Paralooping is a LOT more natural.

I know a Saturn > DC adapter is out there (since I own one) but I can't remember the name of it.

I suppose you could buy a bunch of adapters that would chain Saturn > DC > PS2 > GC and plug it in the wii's controller port. It would look ridiculous but it'd work...maybe? If not we'll have to round up a bunch of electrical engineers and figure it out. My university's full of 'em :)

lol, I think I remember seeing something about a Saturn adapter but I couldn't find it at a place I deemed trustworthy.. but with the Virtual Console and all, it'd be cool if a controller adapter was more available. Like, plugging a Genesis controller into the Wii to play old Sega games :) Oh, but I doubt Nintendo would want that..

What kind do you gots?

I've always used analog for NiD and JoD, so I guess I "don't care" cause I wouldn't use the d-pad myself, but I think every game out there should have as many control options as possible so everyone can play it the way that works best for them. For myself, the d-pad doesn't let you make fine adjustments while you are dashing as fast and long as you can because the d-pad only has 8 directions. For JoD I use a GC controller with the octagon housing rounded out.

Is it worth getting a wii classic controller to play JoD?
I was playin NiD the other day with the analogue pad on my Saturn, and when I went back to playing JoD with the Gamecube control, it felt awful.
I know nothing is going to compare to the beautiful feeling of the Saturn pad, but I was wondering if the classic control felt any better....

I on use the classic controller becaue it's the only one that feels right. Plus I hated using the digital pad for NiD. As soon as I got the 3D controller it was like it finally felt right.

Well, I got a Wii classic controller. It feels better than the nunchuck and Gamecube control, but it's still not a patch on the Saturn 3d pad ^_^

Been using the Classic controller on JoD and it's... okay, I guess. Certainly the best alternative of the lot for the Wii.

For whatever reason I have a much easier time keeping NiGHTS flying straight while using the D-pad in NiD. In JoD I feel like my flying is "wobbly" or off-center. I miss the tightness of the D-pad controls.
