R.O.B really is playable?! and cel-shade link too?! Aww, and Jigglypuff over Mewtwo that's just wrong!
Those fools who thought Marth and Ness were gone oh how I pity them. Is that all the characters (only 35)?
Also I really would have doubted for NiGHTS to be in the game in any shape or form. (Or anything else Sega besides Sonic)

I doubt that's the full character list. Nintendo wouldn't let EVERYTHING slip like that.

Besides, there's supposed to be at least one more third party character in the game and the spoiler photo set doesn't reveal anything of the sort. I'm holding out hope. We shall see.

Uh. The Game is OUT in Japan now. There's no other 3rd party character. Character #35 is said to be 'Wolf', which I'm thinking either means Star Wolf or Wolf Link/Midna. Here's hoping for the latter.

Yeah. It would be out here too (almost) but there was a translation issue from the japanese to english, possibly on the wifi--but yeah you could easily figure out the whole character list by talking to someone who played taht version. Btw.. Lucario for the win O_O i love that pokemon.

Dark Samus DOES make an appearance in the game, though I think it'll just a palette swap of regular samus (there's a few dark versions of characters in the story mode).
The roster is pretty much final, as we're now getting spoilers from the japanese retail version of the game.

Too bad Australia's not getting it 'till like, April at earliest (I mean hell, JoD WAS RELEASED THIS WEEK here)

Someone on NeoGAF found a picture of Wolf in the game, and not the usual silhouettes or stuff like that.

Yeah, it is Wolf O'Donnell from Star Fox, the second clone of Fox (at least the Final Smash is cloned)

The only reason that I love this character's presence is so I can whop the tar out of him as a more worthwhile character. I think that Wolf will become Brawl's Dr. Mario--hated by almost all, and loved by few. And those of the few would never say anything about it.

That said, I am extremely pleased that we have two characters and a boss coming from the Mother series. I think that Mother may be the new Fire Emblem, revived in North America by popular Smash characters. I would love a DS remake (or even re-release) for Mother 1+2, and, of course, Mother 3. I think that favourable winds are blowing for us North American Mother fans.

Rundas is a boss from Metroid Prime 3. I would not have thought for him to be in but, hey what can I say?
I mean if R.O.B is in not much could surprise me greatly anymore.

My only complaints are no Geno (eh, I'll live, though I would have absolutely loved him) and no Mewtwo. The latter is a big one. Mewtwo was my main in Melee, and though Lucario basically uses his moveset, he doesnt quite have the elegance that Mewtwo had. ;-; You'll be missed.

I'll probably main Dedede, Sonic, Pokemon Trainer, Olimar, Lucario (he better hold up to Mewtwo), and/or Metaknight. Not sure yet. The roster is awesome, certainly, but no Mewtwo just makes me sad.

If you're a Mother fan, this game is going to be all kinds of awesome.

I'm more disapointed by no Megaman than no NiGHTS. Overall the roster is pretty good except for one thing. Seeing Marth on the roster made me want to vomit in a way that makes Linda Blair look like the pinnacle of civility. I really hope the development team at least tried to make an effort at balancing the game this time. Maybe then Smash tourneys will actually be a little interesting.

Im glad they got rid of Pichu. He was a character of fail. My mains will be: Zelda/Sheik, Sonic, Lucario, Pit, Meta Knight and MAYBE Snake. Oh, and PT.

Yanno, for such an awsome game they didn't exactly add the most interesting characters.
Wolf is, yanno, basically another Fox. It should've been Krystal in there, not Wolf.
And R.O.B.? DX
Anyways, I really hope nintendo pulls one last rabbit out of it's hat and makes it possible to DL new characters to fight with. But it's probably nothing more than a pipe dream at best.
I wanted to see Black Mage, Megaman, NiGHTS, Rundas, Ridley, and Dark Samus playable...

Ike is cool, probably use him till I unlock Sonic.

Never been a fan of pokemon, but the trainer looks pretty cool, I'll admit. not a main though

Dislikes:
They introduced two new franchises (Wario doesn't count, R.O.B. doesn't count)
MOAR ZELDA CHARACHTERS!! (toon link? the one from the zelda game that sucked?)
And once again, the only affect zelda has on the game shall be the lack of a down + B for shiek

diddy kong. DKC is the most overrated game in the world. I understand Donkey Kong using that design, because the old one is too basic.

NO PULSEMAN!!! Pulseman could've given Game Freak a charachter who isn't a pokemon. And he would've worked awesomely well with the game. Every time I see toon link, I'll be thinking "What a waste!" Pulseman already has an Up + B (VOLTECCER!!!) which is, in my opinion, the hardest move to add to a character, with the possible exception of the Final Smash, which he also already has (Voltec Power). His entrace would have been freakin sweet, just like his taunt.

And R.O.B. Who's next, the zapper? The Power Glove?

This is true. There's a lot of doubles they could have left out, but neah, hopefully the others will make up for it.

Sonic is a new franchise.
In order to fit in Toon Link, they removed Young Link... so there's exactly the same number of Zelda characters as there was in Melee.

And besides, the Master Hand could only be made cooler if he was wearing a Power Glove! XD

I was referring to Nintendo first and second party franchises. Which is the real point of Super Smash Bros. As much as I wanted to see another 3rd party character punt Mario into oblivion, I kinda have to agree with Sakurai, that the focus should be Nintendo characters.

Young Link basically was Link, and if as different as say, C. Falcon and Ganondorf, then they would be different characters. And Toon Link without his game's unique style is UGLY. But my real complaint with him is that development time, I think, could have been better spent by leaving out the carbon copies, and adding in even one more unique character. Well, at

And I'm kind of... displeased with them using Pulseman's signature move to Pikatchu as it's Final Smash, but to be fair, it could learn Volteccer in pokemon.

And now thinking about it more, Now I'm imagining NiGHTS's hypothetical intro video involving a VERY surprised Star Fox...

I like the roster, but I was hoping for a bit more.

E: and R.OB.... hmm not as good of a joke charachter as G&W, It would've been awesome to see the EBA/ Ouendan guys in. And come to think of it, the Power Glove would be a hilarious item. a high priority charging punch. And if any capcom charachter should go in, it shoulda/ should be Jin Satome, like he appeared in MvC. Best Final Smash ever.
