My brother recently got a Wii and now I'm able to play my Jouney of Dreams game (I got it on Dec. 19) ! When I first began to play the game I was anxious to see what our favorite NiGHTS characters were going to sound like and was surprised at how NiGHTS himself sounded. In my brother's opinion NiGHTS sounds like mix between Disney's Peter Pan and the current Sonic the Hedgehog. I actually love the voice of NiGHTS, it seems to fit him and his fun-loving attitute just fine, and the voices of Reala and Wizeman who sound absolutely evil and dark, just right for their characters! But I was wondering what other people thought concerning their voices. Did you love them like I did or did you absolutely hate them?

I like NiGHTS' voice,but it could do without the echoy-helium like effect they added to the voice.

Wizeman's voice is EVIL. I LOVE IT. it absolutely fits him.

Reala's voice is cool and dark,and smexy. >:3 ...Just get rid of that stupid mask and bat tights,get those yellow claws back,and he is even SMEXYER. >w<

Personally, I am happy with the voices. I think they fit the characters just right. And, is it just me, or does Wizeman sound somewhat like E-102 Gamma from Sonic Adventure?

I'm tolerant of the voices, really. I don't love them or hate them. They're the voices, and I accept that.

When Reala's voice first hit the 'net in "OUCH!" sound-effect form, I ranted about it being terrible and too different from NiD Reala, but despite my initial misgivings I wound up really liking his speaking voice. It fit his JoD character. In a way I see Reala in JoD as almost entirely different from Reala in NiD, and I think the new voice fits the new Reala. I can dig it. His voice actor did a pretty good job with inflections/emotions/etc., and out of the entire cast seemed to stumble the least over the British accent (though stumble he did).

NiGHTS' voice is okay IMO. Sometimes it got grating and strangely echoey, and other times it was very cute and fitting. All in all I found his spandexed posterior to be more distracting than his voice.

Wizeman's voice... it fit, but was rather garbled at times. More annuciation plz Mr. Jazz Hands.

Will's voice was cute. He just seemed to forget he had an accent 90% of the time.

Helen's voice was too soft and the voice acting got incredibly cheesy. Especially when she screamed. Is it that hard to fake a believable scream? Talk about killing a cutscene.

The way the accents turned on and off drove me bats. NiGHTS sounded British sometimes, American others, and once in awhile even Australian. Will just plain couldn't keep his nationality straight. I guess I have a sensitive ear for that kind of thing, but I'd have preferred an all-British cast if Sonic Team was so dead set on British accents; or they should've kept the same cast and had them speak normally sans fake accents.

tl;dr - overall voice acting was pretty good; annoying for some characters; and fake accents bothered me.

ETA: Oh yeah, Owl's voice was charming. It was warm and mentor-y... if that makes any sense.

I personally find the fake british accent to be particularly meanacing sounding. Hence I find it to suit Reala.

Will and Helen I don't care for, the accents come and go, and they do sound kinda crappy.

NiGHTS' voice suits the character, though I was sorta blown away when I first heard it. It's just... kinda weird.

Wizeman is freaking awesome. I really got into the zone when I just heard him say "Recieve my judgement"

The only voice that I thought knocked it out of the ball park was Wizeman's. It was fantastic. The others are hit or miss.

NiGHTS - Don't like it. The acting is so-so and I don't think it's androgynous enough.
Reala - Okay until he starts to giggle like a school girl. He had a faint lisp which got on my nerves a bit.
Will - Other than him frequently dipping in and out of his accent, the voice sounded appropriate to the character and his acting was satisfactory.
Helen - Good voice, crappy acting. Didn't like it. Acting is more important than voice and Helen's actor made her sound like a retard with almost every line spoken.
Owl - Good. Didn't like the character, but the actor had a good voice for the role and the way he delivered his lines really gave a old teacher feel.

I agree with Tsunami though. The accents were a little grating because they often felt forced and people couldn't keep them constant. If you can't do a accent well, don't do it at all. Hell, I think I can do a better British accent than most of the cast members.

Wizeman has the most experienced voice actor backing him too, Roger Jackson, so yeah. Kudos to Sonic Team on that one. Owl is fine. Hiring those American newbie kid actors to put on British accents was a misfire. NiGHTS's voice is okay, but again the put-on accent occasionally gets in the way, plus maybe if he spoke a bit more softly sometimes. Reala was all right, but I think he would have also been just fine if they went with the voice from the first game somehow.

I just fantasize about how JoD would be if the cut-scenes looked like the FMVs and if the voice acting was more consistent. The only time you really sense emotion from Helen and Will is in the FMV. They look blank in the cut scenes. Seriously, on replay fine who cares, but if the cut scenes were done better, story mode would have been so much more awesome.

I don't favor any of the voices other than that of Wizeman. He sounds a bit like gamma...
It's okay for NIGHTS to have a female voice, as long as they make it sound a bit more uni-sex, although, I would personally prefer the no-voice method in the original game.
Reala, who is one of the most dynamic character in the game, sounded like an evil butler with a GOD AWFUL ANNOYING LAUGH!!! *hits head*
The others, with the exeption of owl, who's voice blew, were so-so.
It's a GREAT game, but, in the words of Nintendo Power's Steve T. :" It has some questionable voice acting..."

NiGHTS' voice sucks meatballs until you get used to him. I just hate how you can practically HEAR his tongue moving to make that phony accent. "LET ME GAAAAOOOO!" Uuugh! *Shudder*

*-I absolutely adored Wizemans voice but if I didn't have the subtitles on, I would have had a difficult time understanding him.

*- I liked Reala's voice when he spoke, especially since he seemed to sneer everytime he spoke to NiGHTS. Although I couldn't stand his laugh....it wasn't scary. I always pictured him with a menacing/frightening laugh. He just made me giggle along with him ;p

*- Helen's voice was nice but felt forced.

*- Will's voice was suited but again felt amateurish. (sp?)

*- Augh NiGHTS voice...I didn't hate it. I felt like at some points whoever did the voice acting managed to get a Real adrogynous sound that really suited him but otherwise he sounded wayyyyy to female. I mean isn't it bad enough they gave him Maybelline eyelashes but they had to add such a girly voice too? Why didn't they make him sound more...like a young boy perhaps? I dunno who has seen Constantine but, the woman who plays Gabriel managed to look and sound rather adrogynous as she should for that role; I had to stare to figure out the gender of the actor. In conclusion it could have been much worse and it could have been better.

I also agree with Viperxmns. In the cutscenes the dreamers looked rather frightening to me ;; They had no emotion...now that I think about it...it was like they almost didn't have eyelids. Their eyes stayed open like 0___0. I would have much preferred if they made FMV's for the cuscenes but alas we don't know exactly how much money was given as a budget for this game.

The budget was decent, it's just that Sonic Team spent it all on the FMVs and all the remixes of Dreams Dreams .

Anyways.

Wizeman was a WIN, but I wouldn'tve understood him without subs either. Will was pretty good, other than being amateury. Helen sucked- she was too high-pitched to me and her accent was terrible. Reala was alright, but he did sound a little butler-y. The laugh made me laugh with him just from how silly it sounded. It woulda suited Jackle better >.>;.

And NiGHTS. There were parts where she did the andrygony (sp?) so-so, but for the most part he sounded like a pre-teen girl >.<. I agree with Purg on the hilarity of the actress' attempt on an accent. The echo/warp spoiled what good acting there was. They should have gotten a little boy for the part...like the kid that done Alphonse on FullMetal Alchemist. That would have been neat. Dunno about keeping up with the andygony, but it woulda been better.

The big let-down of the voice acting was definitely the accents. It was obvious not a one of them was really experienced with British Accents, and in the children's cases, not very experienced period.

Somewhat off-topic...anyone else find funny the scenes when Will and Helen get sent to each other's dreams? The parts when they fall through the black...abyss...shoulda been sped up like 2-3x.

Owl's voice acting was OK, but he just would not shut up (Visitor! Oh! Visitor!) I do not like Will or Helen's voices, but I think that the voices of the villains were well done. Overall, the voice work is fairly good, at least far better than, say, the Sonic Adventure games or Mario Sunshine.

Mixed feelings, but I never have a straight opinion!

Wizeman- PWNAGE! I love his voice and I agree on the fact that it sounded a little....garggled in some instances but was still very awesome and one of the best.

Reala- Good, and it had a nice "I'm evil, BACK OFF!" edge to it, but again I agree it kinda reminds me of not a leader/general of an army of darkness. The titter-y laugh amused me to the point of giggling though!

NiGHTS-It took me some time to get used to his new voice....I kinda wish the actress could make her voice a liiiiittle more boyish but relax. She sounded strained in some parts and honestly she tried too hard. But I still like it!

Will- Not so great....what got me was the fact that he sounded American half the time but other than that his voice actor has potential.

Helen- Uh....no comment. Her voice is cute, but her screaming sounded off to me. And her accent was so-so...could be MUCH better....

Owl- I like it! It sounds very much like a stereotypical owl teacher to me! No sarcasm. It's charming as someone else put it. Like the voice, hate how annoying the character is.


And I bet that soon all of this will change, but this is what I'm standing by at the moment!

As of the moment, I have to agree with many other people and say that Wizeman's voice was definitely the best one. Sonic Team, you did Wizeman a great justice by hiring him a phenomenal voice actor and doing what I believe was a great redesign. I only found his voice to be garbled during the bossfight and at the beginning of Helen's all-C+ ending. However I haven't done Will's all-C+ ending so we shall see.

About Reala... I like it. He sounds suave, the laugh I actually like. I've always seen Reala as being a prettyboy though so that may have influenced my reasons to like the laugh. His character was very well done and I'm interested to hear who exactly did the voice so I can check out their other voices.

NiGHTS... well, I think it was a tad too feminine as others have said. However, most of the time I actually liked his voice. The only thing that really irked me was the lines that had a bit too much... "LET ME GO!" to it.

On Will, I enjoyed his voice and he actually sounded quite good. I can definitely pair him with his voice. I didn't notice the accent change thing but maybe that's because I was getting a little too into the story and didn't register the voices 'til playthrough 2. All in all I believe he also got quite a good, though amateur, voice actor.

Helen. Oh dear. I didn't mind her voice that much when she was speaking, but the screams... something didn't seem right there. That threw me off a bit and out of the story sometimes which bugged me, so she's the only voice I have one serious issue with.

Owl had a voice that sounded, as I think I and someone else said in a previous thread, like Owl from Winnie-The-Pooh and I loved that. He may be annoying with his constant "Visitor! Visitor!" shtick, but I tuned that out fairly quickly and just focused on the task at hand. He's definitely got a touch of teacher/grandfatherly thing to him which I like.

Really, Sonic Team did what I believe was at least a semi-good and at best a fantastic job picking the voice actors for most characters. I only really have a couple picky things, but in the grand scheme they're really not that important.

My thoughts:

NiGHTS- It was a shock to me at first, but now I really love it! ^^ I just was a bit disappointed at how much of a female it was though, but if you think about it, NiGHTS sounds a bit like a girl and a young boy.

Reala- He's got the evilness, and a rather funny laugh! XD I like it! He did great with the accents.

Wizeman- Wow... I swear, I felt fear for a split second.... But he did sound minorly like Gamma...

Helen- She's got a nice voice, but needs to work on the acting a little... The screams were just...no.

Will- He sounded more American to me, with accents appearing some points.

Owl- Great voice, but VERY annoying.

Wizeman kind of sounded like my dad, actually. XD With the whole "RECIEVE MY JUDGEMENT" thing. Only my dad says it in a fun way, Wizeman makes it sound evil. But the voice itself kind of sounds like my dad.

I personally liked all there voices, BUT REALAS! at first i didnt liek it, HE NO SAY THERE IS NO NiGHTS D< XD he soudned cute in the SS version. But after awhile, i liekd it. Its funny (thats a good boy, eh?) EH?!?!

What's wrong with his voice? It seemed like it fit him perfectly. Even though he sounded alot like Obi-Wan Kenobi whenever he addressed Wizeman... O.o o.O

NiGHTS- I like the voice; it's like a young boy or a young woman depending on how you see it. I can actually mimick the "Du-a-lize!" part!!

Reala- I swear to God, i have heard him before!! I liked the voice but his laugh just creeped me out.

Will- I like Will's voice; it suits him and it was well done, in my opinion.

Helen- Helen's voice was a little too...cheesy and a bit ditzy. The screaming sounded fake but i kinda like it.

Wizeman- The voice wasn't really what i expected at all...but it was okay, not great but okay.

Owl- I HATE THIS CHARACTER. His voice bugs me and i swear to God that i nearly fell off my bed when i heard "Go and touch NiGHTS". IT SOUNDED WRONG!!

NiGHTS: After going for so long with my own version of NiGHTS' voice (I always imagined him sounding like a guy, 'cause NiGHTS is male to me XD), it was odd to hear him sound like a girl. The British accent was good at times, and terrible at others - there were times where I thought he sounded more Australian than British! The Brit accent was a liiiiittle bit stereotypical, imo ("No thanks. I think I'll pass." had me and my mother in fits of giggles), but I did learn to like his voice in the end. Also, I REALLY like the strange echo-y effect they put on it.

Reala: Pure sex. 'Nuff said.

Will: Uh...I'm not really sure about Will's voice. It was okay, but he sounded Scottish to me at times and seemed like he forgot he was supposed to be British.

Helen: Helen's voice was the right pitch for me, but her voice actress really needs to work on her acting. She sounded almost possessed at times, and the O_O eyes didn't help. XD; The screaming also needs work.

Wizeman: Fab. He does sound evil and like I imagined him to, even if his voice does seem a little bit cliche. It's really odd hearing him sound like that, though, after what he sounded like in the first game.

Owl: Apart from Reala, Owl's voice was probably the best of the bunch. To me, he's got the voice down perfectly for an old, wise owl, and while I admit that the "Visitor." "Visitor." "Visitor." annoyed me a little after a while, I think his voice was really well done.

Well aside from NiGHTS, and Reala, I liked the voices. Reala's had a case of minionitis. Helen and Will sounded cute. The Owl <.< he kind of annoyed me in general. They were okay but not great in general.

Ok, here's my 2 cents.

Wizeman - I agree with everyone else, his voice suited him the most. I loved how deep and just... pure EVIL it sounded. Although yes, it was garbled at times.

Reala - Hmm, kind of mixed feelings on this one. I think the accent suits him ok, but he seems very effeminate, you know? He felt... well, gay, honestly. He had a very coy and swishy personality, and that just wasn't how I pictured him. The voice actor did fine though. I agree on that tittery laugh though. Good GOD that was awful.

NiGHTS: Mixed feelings. There were times where he sounded VERY feminine, and he even acted feminine, and I agree with what someone said earlier, it doesn't help that they gave him Maybelline eyelashes and huge hips and a pronounced ass (not that I was looking ) I also agree with what someone said when it felt like the actress was really straining with the accent. And I laughed my ASS off when Wizeman attacked him and he did that stupid scream that went on for 5 minutes. I really wish they got a truly androgynous voice actor for this character.

Helen: She was good, I think she held up the accent a lot better than Will did, but not by much. The only real gripe I have with her was when she did that godawful scream, as others mentioned. My friend Ethan laughed out loud when he heard that.

Will: Dear god, Will was awful. There was NO emotion there, AT ALL. It was like watching a board, having mannequin like character models didn't help either. He sounded like he didn't give a sh!t about ANYTHING that was happening to him at all. "No. NiGHTS. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me. Really. I mean it. Seriously. I'm so interested right now." Ugh.

Owl: Well, he sounded how I would imagine a wise owl mentor would sound like, so A plus from me.

AND that is my 2 cents. I hope you enjoyed it.
