NiGHTS RPG

The one thing that really popped into my head is maybe, instead of random battles, there would be quick sequences that would be like mini-mares. Perhaps going through the rings in these sequences, or collecting blue chips, would add XP (or some NiGHTS-themed equivalent), with successive links working as multipliers.
Does anyone else have any ideas of how something like this might work? I feel it's pretty interesting to think about.

Heheh. I thought about that too. That's even harder for me to wrap my head around. You remind me of a friend of mine, though. He likes applying tabletop rules to just about anything. We've recently started playing a tabletop version of Pokemon he came up with. It's not d20, though. It's... more like 3d6. Heheh.oh man. Now i want to make a d20 system for a NiGHTS tabletop...

hehe, character classes would be different types of low level maren and if you level up enough you can rank up, or you could be a dreamer and go on quests for ideya.
oooh, we could do two separate factions and use the classic lawful/neutral/chaotic system to classify characters so you could theoretically have renegade maren like NiGHTS and the occasional evil dreamer. This could become epic.

Actually, applying DnD rules to NiGHTS was done way back in the day by certain authors and artists. They ended up creating an alternate universe that allowed for DnD character classes, feats, and abilities but stuck to very basic NiGHTS canon. The result was a fanfiction series that many of us older members might remember: It was known as NADD, short for NiGHTS Dungeons and Dragons. Unfortunately it's no longer available for reading anymore, but that's where we come in now.
Thanks to JoD, we now have more information to work with regarding the inner workings and rules of the Night Dimension, as well as more insight into certain characters' personalities. NiD left a lot to the imagination, so imagine what we can do with all this new stuff!
And there's certainly nothing to stop us adding in different features for a table-top game. *is starting to get ideas*
I'll be watching this thread... X3

I was also thinking about how a TCG might work. I figured I'd leave that for another topic, but since I'm not the only one thinking about it, feel free to discuss that, too. Sadly, I've played very few TCGs. I played two or three games of Magic and a little bit of the Pokemon Trading Card game for GBC. I loved Phantasy Star Online Episode 3, but I don't think a NiGHTS TCG would work much like that one. Heheh.A NiGHTS TCG would be ideal for me. I am a TCG freak. Who else knows the inner mechanazations of Pikachu?

Dualize- (One colorless, one psychic) Flip a coin. If heads, you may now use an attack from any Pokemon on your bench.

There are a few major types of cards:
Blue chips - these are required to play most of the other cards in the game. Once a card is played that requires blue chips, the used up chips go to the discard pile
Ideya - There are 4 different Ideya cards -- Yellow, Green, White, and Blue. All Ideya require a certain number of blue chips to play. The main objective of the game is to play all 4 Ideya cards. Once that happens, then the player can win by using...
Dreamer - The dreamer card. This is required to win the game. It represents one of the children holding the Red Ideya. To play this card, the player must have the 4 other Ideya cards already in play. Whoever plays this first, wins.
The rest of the cards are essentially action cards that allow players to exchange cards with the deck / discard pile / another player and whatever else might make the gameplay more interesting. It might also be nifty for some cards to require that players engage in either a battle or race in NiD or JoD, if either is available, to determine the effect of the card.
Each player would start with, say, 5 cards. Each turn, the player draws a card and either uses or discards a card (you must end your turn with 5 cards). It just goes around the table like that until somebody finally plays a Dreamer.

Well, I think I might have some ideas for a NiGHTS card game. Not a TCG, exactly, though. I got the main gameplay concepts from the Mario Party card game. Basically, it would go something like this:
There are a few major types of cards:
Blue chips - these are required to play most of the other cards in the game. Once a card is played that requires blue chips, the used up chips go to the discard pile
Ideya - There are 4 different Ideya cards -- Yellow, Green, White, and Blue. All Ideya require a certain number of blue chips to play. The main objective of the game is to play all 4 Ideya cards. Once that happens, then the player can win by using...

You, my friend, are elite. You just came up with a game that could, if (excuse this pun) you play your cards right (end bad pun) could make you millions of dollars. Will you share your wealth with us?

Wizeman: costs 6 colorless. str 10 def 10. Tap for Wrath of God or Armageddon. When Wizeman is put into the graveyard, put four colorless 2/0 Maren tokens into play.
NiGHTS: costs 4 colorless. str 4 def 3. Tap to gain control of an opponent's creature for the duration of the battle phase- that creature has haste until end of battle phase. Tap to search your library for a dreamer and place it on top of your library. When NiGHTS is put into a graveyard from play, put one colorless 1/1 dreamer token into play.
And so on. An effect card could be Pillory of the dreamless (copy of Pillory of the Sleepless) and stuff based around losing ideya or being placed in nightmares. To really play around with Magic, give players 5 ideya in place of 20 life. Each ideya is equal to four life. Stupid, but adds to the NiGHTSy-ness, I suppose.
edit: edited for late-night stupidity. Unfortunately DAiLiGHT's quote has immortalized the idiocy. Oh well. I still like the idea of a new land type, but I'll have to sit on it awhile.

NiGHTS into Magic. My crappy idea doesn't compare to the TCG CronoMST made, but here goes. Land type is Dreamscape, tap to add any kind of mana to your mana pool or one blue chip mana. Marens of all kinds would be creature cards, as well as dreamers. EX:
Wizeman: costs 6 colorless plus two blue chip mana. str 10 def 10. Tap for Wrath of God or Armageddon. When Wizeman is put into the graveyard, put four colorless 2/0 Maren tokens into play.
NiGHTS: costs four blue chips and a colorless. str 4 def 3. Tap to gain control of an opponent's creature for the duration of the battle phase- that creature has haste until end of battle phase. Tap to search your library for a dreamer and place it on top of your library. When NiGHTS is put into a graveyard from play, put one 1/1 dreamer token into play.
And so on. An effect card could be Pillory of the Ideyaless (copy of Pillory of the Sleepless) and stuff based around losing ideya or being placed in nightmares. To really play around with Magic, give players 5 ideya in place of 20 life. Each ideya is equal to four life. Stupid, but adds to the NiGHTSy-ness, I suppose.
That would sound totally awesome if I had any idea how Magic: The Gathering worked. ;;;;;;;

I helped someone a little with one of those once...they thought that stuff was genious, I think their name was golden charm.
I have no clue who's who in here anymore, and haven't even clicked the sight for a while (high school=painful) but I really like these ideas.
I'd always thought of the Ideya as more of equip items than what you guys have, like the white one increasing magical resistance and whatnot.
NiGHTS cards would be ingenious, though I couldn't play as I still don't have a Wii or NiGHTS 2.

I did when I started this topic. It's kind of evolved into something encompassing tabletop RPGs and card game as well, but I'd still like to hear video game ideas. And here I thought you meant like a videogame RPG.
I'm actually considering making an online version of the card game I described above. It would take awhile, but I could probably do it if somebody else did the art.

Ooh. That's pretty interesting. I like that idea. I wonder how the exploration aspect might work. I suppose it could stick to a side view, though I could potentially see some kind of isometric view working as well.I would make it a sort of Tales of Symphonia-style RPG, with a 2D battle system that you dynamically shift in and out of depending on the proximity of enemies. Simply subtracting timers and adding in numbers to the attacks, making the rings sort of combo multipliers, making each attack that you perform more powerful when you go through more rings, and the number of links that you accumulate in each battle will be factored into experience points.

Basically, you have two kids who have a sibling hateship (is that even a word?) where the brother causes pranks, and the sister attempts blackmail (but only toward her brother's friends). It was only until they dreamed that they realized that they really needed each other. You see, Wizeman has returned (again... >.>;; ), and has this time set up a mystical barrier around Nightmare, so that NiGHTS wouldn't interfere with taking over Nightopia and blah, blah blah.
Story aside, the parts with the kids would be a turn-based tactical field thing. Their default attack would be whatever weapon (realistic-themed or otherwise) they have with them. Their other moves would be throwing chips, or using whatever Ideya they have, and maybe some more.
As for NiGHTS, I was thinking maybe a side-screen flight part where he flies around, picking up items and such for the kids to get on the ground, and fighting enemies like he would normally do. But the only problem I see is exactly how to emulate that into an RPG (or RPG Maker, to be exact.)
For exploration, there would be a big map for each of several 'dreamscapes', but with some several smaller ones, such as caves, dungeons, ect.

I suppose it's not unheard of that we could see NiGHTS as a guest character in an RPG. He WAS in Phantasy Star Online Ep I & II, after all, and you had an entire quest where you had to collect Ideya (from what I remember). In fact, that was the very first time I heard Dreams Dreams.
HE WAS?! My cousin has those games! *runs to Ohio, steals the game, runs back home*
