so I went to the US official site and downloaded the screen saver. Rather simple thing really. Just has NiGHTS flying around (tho to fly to the left he goes upside down) nice and quaint... after a couple of days tho I noticed that a blue with purple spots octopus will occasionally float across the screen. anyone know what that's about? at first I thought it might be a maren or something, but there weren't any others... just the one that shows up occasionally... do you think SEGA just took some other pre-made screen saver and hacked NiGHTS into and accidentally left part of the old one in?

has anyone else noticed this?

o_o you're right... I hadn't noticed that. That's so freaky. It doesn't even look like a maren... just a regular cartoony octopus.

Also... my computer started making some weird noises while I was running the screensaver. That's never happened before. I'm kinda creeped out >_>

I'm not entirely certain (because I haven't even seen the screensaver itself in action yet, nevermind the octopus), but do you remember the ninjaed clip of NiGHTS and Will's voices? The one where Will says 'Oy, he/they ran off!' and NiGHTS responds 'Come on Will, shall we have some fun? Let's follow him/it!'? Well, according to the people who were there (and I'm not sure exactly where I heard this), they were speaking of an octopus you had to chase. Oo' If I'm wrong, please someone correct me.

If I recall correctly, since Windows and Mac compile on two different code bases, I don't think it's possible without disassembling and recompiling the screensaver code...which is really difficult.

Now, as for the octopus. I noticed it too, but every time I was too far from my idle screen to really tell what it was. Why would they only include this one maren, and not go all-out and include others?

Bah.. at least I have my PC at work to refer to. Although I did check Google a bit and there might be some program I have to download to run it.

I still want an app that gives the mouse a star trail all the time.. and looping it does a Paraloop. Then nothing would really get not done.

Yeps I've seen it, I was just sitting and staring at my Monitor and when that octopus maren came out it scared the living daylights out of me! Plus on top of that the screensaver made some weird noise! O.O I cut my Pc off for the rest of the day....

Yeh, I saw the octopus, too. No sound, though.

I would say it's that 'Octopaw' thing we heard about, but it's not in a NiGHTSy style...

I think it's probably something left over from the software they used..Like they used a template for the screensaver, but didn't get rid of the some of the default stuff.

Still a good screenie. NiGHTS is so cute. :>

A bit unrelated but i downloaded the screensaver the day it went up but I've not actually installed it yet. I need to know how big it is and if it will eat my PC and make it crash. So is it a monster or quite lite?

My last screensaver (aquarium) would make my pc lag so BADLY.

I wouldn't risk it - my computer-literate little sister's jealous of the unlaggieness of my computer, and I've observed NiGHTS sometimes 'wobbling' while he flies, and sometimes he seems to jump slightly ahead in flight. I'm not sure how good my PC is at handling these things, but this is the same computer that can run NWN2 with only a few instances of lag (while my computer-literate sis's computer plays it in slow-motion).

There's no issues with it. No virus or worms. No spyware. Just a flying jester, a black background, and oddly enough a freakin octopus lol. It behaves like a default Windows screensaver so there is no issues there.

Octopus is up on Japanese home page. Name is Octopaw. If the character bios are divided into good and bad, which they seem to be, he seems to be a good guy.

I have an old Mac (2000 model iMac) and I want this screensaver, but from reading this topic I can guess that I'm stuck with the default "flurry" screensaver that just has this swirly bright light. Aw man.... I wanted the octopus.....

As a few others have said that octopus is Octopaw. I am not going to spoil anything(I got JoD on Friday and I've already finished it) but he is a good guy and you will see him as you play through the game.
