Knowing what a Bad Game is
#1

Ranting aside... I'll start
----------------------------------------------------
A bad game will have voice acting that falls under the three requisites (doesn't neccisarily have to be just one of them either):
-dull and soulless
-so the character will be taken for granted even if they shouldn't
-Constantly barking orders at the player or another character as if the whole universe and other universes beyond that are going to explode if nothing is done about it!!!!!!111oneone

Bad, annoying music.

That was lame.
Seriously though, bad level design can put a game in its grave really fast.

Oh, and the camera-man will be credited as "Bob the Drunk"!

You know a game is bad when the box says "Developed by EA" *Ba-dum-chshhh*...
*Looks at her Sims 2 Cd and cries*
Why does everyone hates the Sims?
Anyhow...
(And mind you I'm very bad at trying to be funny.)
- Loop-holes (Not including the game Portal in which I only have fun with continued loops.)
- Games that has that particular main character that is the same in almost every other game.
- Same thing as above but only with bad guys.
- Really cruddy graphics with no good or real story line to back it up. (I'm surprised on how many of those are out there and still some what popular.)
- Hints that are so cryptic that its nearly impossible to know what they want you to do because it has nearly no logic to it at all.
- Hints that are so easy that a two year old could figure it out. (Like pretty much saying exactly what you have to do kind ruins the game.)
- Similar to what Roam said but polar opposite: very, very loose controls. (I like mine in the mid-range because of my reaction time is odd compared to most people but I absolutely hate it when the controls are way too stiff.)
- Games that have really bad glitches. (Most of the more resent Sonic games are to blame for my reasoning on this. Like that time I was in space and couldn't continue because I keep falling through the floor for no apparent reason and but I wouldn't die instead continually fall... in space. Or that one time I keep falling through the floor on the pinball machine and couldn't continue the game because I always fell in the same spot. I'm I the only one that gets these glitches because everyone else I talk to never experience these problems. T_T )
- Continuing with a game way too long. (There are those few that continues but are still good.)
- Adding too many Characters to a game or deleting perfectly good characters and replacing them with someone else that is pretty lame.
- Games that Try to copy another game. (There are those few that seem to be a bit better at doing that though. For example Maple story is a copy off of another game which I see much more decent than the game its copied from. I have to say that had to of pissed a few game developers off though. XD)
- Games that are easily completed within 3 hours of sitting down and playing. (I thought people were saying games are getting harder... I actually find many more older games that are much harder than these newer ones.... I can't believe how many times it has happened where my parents would buy me a game for Christmas and I would beat it before we go to grandma's for dinner. -.-)
- People that thinks lowly of the game because of its genera, how popular it is with others, how hard or easy it may be. (Ok I know that one really didn't fit in the category.)
Anyways, my list is long and as odd as it seems I have a large respect for most games.
Its actually hard for me to actually "hate" a game or put it on a "black list" because of a few problems it may have or what other players may think of it or character's in it. ect.
You actually can tell this is so because I tend to defend some games. I believe that most games don't deserve such negative attention that they some time receive because of how the play hasn't observed the game well enough to see why so many like it or dislike it or if its over-hyped or under-hyped. ect.
Ack sorry about spilling so much of my opinion. XD
I will shut up now.

A bad game, to me, is simply a game that is not user-friendly. Whatever it be messy level design, convoluted controls, game breaking glitches, gritty pixelated graphics, gimmicky excess features or even a poor presentation, these flaws do not make a game user-friendly. Games should be presentable and easy to get into for everyone to enjoy. Less is more, not less. I believe a goal every developer should have is to be more considerate for the player and make the game more easily accessible for everyone while still making it challenging and fun.

1. Terrible voice acting (thanks 4Kids)
2. A weak and/or bland story
3. One dimensional, bland, and/or dull characters
4. Bosses that are too easy to beat
5. Glitches
6. Music that doesn't fit the mood
7. Truck driving controls (aka bad movements and controls)
8. Bad cameras

A bad game will feature a cast of characters that will:
- Make you go 'WTH!?'
- Give you nightmares
- Make the game completely unplayable

Yes I speak of the DS. But that isn't so bad. Think of how small the next generation of handheld games will be! I speant an hour looking for one of my games because I misplaced it.

-camera angles that will literally cause you to break your neck
-needs to have half naked (or even naked in some instances) girls to make the game more "enjoyable"
-is the same game every year with 1 new unnecessary mode and a light sprinkle of graphics *cough*madden*cough*

ET for the Atari is one of unmatched titles for one of the worse game in video game history.
It was so craptastic the extra games they had was buried in a landfill in New Mexico.
(I also heard that they buried it in cement as well so that no one would dig them back up.)

Oi yes the ET game that of classice video game history for terribleness. But that is a bit more serious than what this topic calls for I think.
"A bad game is one that doesn't have a fishing mini game in it!" Says my boyfriend....He was being silly, but he does love fishing mini games.
The fact that it is true is what is funny. XD
(That and them having to get rid of it by dumping and burying with dirt and cement in a landfill in New Mexico to either forget about the mistake or just to get rid of the product that nearly sold almost nothing.)

I wonder if this is the Finding Nemo game you speak of. XD I hated them too...I hated them so much that I HAD to complete them all. Even the hard optional ones...and I did. I feel special! When there are sliding tile picture puzzles.
STOP IT. STOP IT THEY'RE NOT FUN. THEY'RE NOT FUN AT ALL. MAKE PROPER PUZZLES. DON'T MAKE ME COME OVER THERE. >
But yeah, haveing those in the normal gameplay was a pain. ;-;

I HATE THOSE. Especially if they had a "simple" solution (only a few moves) and you spend half an hour trying to solve it...When there are sliding tile picture puzzles.
STOP IT. STOP IT THEY'RE NOT FUN. THEY'RE NOT FUN AT ALL. MAKE PROPER PUZZLES. DON'T MAKE ME COME OVER THERE. >
Which reminds me. A game is bad when you have a adventure/puzzle/point-and-click game and suddenly there's an action sequence you have to complete to be able to move on A bad game randomly mixes genres just because the developers wants it to last longer.

That is basically all-and-all.
In more detail.:
A Bad Game is a game that annoys the viewer by different ways, from loading screens, to bad gameplay, to voice acting, to music, to availability, to price. Anything that destroys the interest or fun of the game is '+1' on the 'Bad' scale, and enough points on said 'Bad' scale... and it's a bad game. Most good games only have 1 or 2 points.
Fun-Wise, bad games are different for everyone. The most detested game of one man might be the favorite of another. It all depends, really.

-You're walking and suddenly your body is thrown through a building. (you die XD)
-You fall through the level design and and it doesn't count as a death until you disappear.
- Too many cliches (dying and then coming back to life)
-Having too many characters to count.
These are the only ones I can name on top of my head.

Good example of what to do.: The Orange Box. $50 for 5 games ftw.
Good example of what NOT DO DO: $200 for 4 games.
