So yeah, some PICTURES FOR YOU TO LOOK AT!
NEW IMAGES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE THREAD. (Updated 19/05/08: Artrage WIP of Geoff and Ellie)
A flyer I did for a charity event. No, the tag line wasn't my idea.
Concept art doodle for a comic I'm working on.
Guy called Geoff from a novel I'm working on. He's kind of a dream guide. And is not normally this depressed, but sometimes these things happen. It was pencilled and then done entirely in one black fine-liner and water.
If you do no know who this person is, you need to play more awesome freeware games. Namely, Cave Story. Rough as hell but I like this image anyway. He's fun to draw.
I've got more stuff on me DA, over at http://ktcoope.deviantart.com/
(And to be really cheeky I should plug I'm also doing some extra cheap commissions to help with impending Christmas)

He has a nice generic jacket of genericness. Yay for wireless headphones though. (The thing clipped to his collar is his mp3 player)

And you said I won for having a Psychonauts avatar! I love Cave Story. Have you thought about drawing Balrog or anyone else?

Man, completely forgot to reply in here after your... subtle plug in the chatroom... Ha! Take that! Counter plug!
Have to say I'm loving your style... reminds me of a friend's style, but much more refined, your lines have a lovely sense of strength, even in the scratchy Cave Story one.
And the first one is gorgeous. The colours are perfect.
Curious to see what the comic is about... that first doodle has a lot of power.

Roam: I'd love to do a group shot of Cave Story stuff (I've got another Cave Story image here: http://ktcoope.devia...ote-GO-44672866 ) But I've actually never completed the game. Balrog is awesome. There's lots of characters from it I'd like to draw.
Sairus: I was totally subtle and not whining at all. Yes. XD Thanks. I'm hoping the comic will be interesting. Scripting it is kicking my ass a bit because of the dialogue being so difficult, and it's going to be a lot of work due to the amount it relies in the backgrounds and scenery but it should be a good exercise.

Sketch commission for someone. Just simple colours but I kinda like how it came out. He was an interesting design to draw.

Sketch from summer I'm not sure why I didn't post (or finish). Skotia, in a Kingdom Heartsy outfit. Hense the silly amounts of buckles and stuff.
Sketch from the first MCC Drink and Draw. His name is Si.
A rough chibi sketch but I really like it. I should ink and colour it really. This guy is called Tin. The normal sized one would be a relative of Si's. He doesn't like you.
A sketch commission I did for Aaron/Wolf, of his character Knight. He asked for a design and I wanted to incorporate stuff he liked from other people's versions of him (So yeah, Purg, got the feet from your pic of him. )

Some watercolour images I did as Christmas presents:
A steampunk guy for my friend Tom
If you don't get this, it's probably best not to ask.
Harpok and Uri from Nemisis Fleet for my friend Abby.
Zombie pandas for my freind Jaime.
And one I did today and yesterday of my character Rayfield to break out of a bad mood and try out a new brushpen:

I demand a Leighton pic like that recent one. XD And a Cassian too! <3
#18
Posted 11 January 2008 - 01:12 AM
I started a Cassian but it's not quite working so I think I need to start over. (His face is not playing now.) I think I want to do all the Agency-related ones, so Cassian, Ibis, Nick, Captain Go, Nia and Serafina.

A work in progress, I'm sharing cause I'm really pleased with how it's coming out so far. It still needs shading though.
I think I'm gonna give it some simple cel shading and a few soft gradients and stuff, nothing too over the top.

For various reasons, I have been drawing 7+ hours a day the the past week and a half-two weeks-I can't even remember now.
Yesterday, other than breaks for food, I drew from 11am to 1:30 am.
Result- Me feeling like this:

XD ffhfhfh then you get bloodeye and hide from daylight at breakfast time while you clutch at your spoon with handcramp. This has also been me for a while too. It's like, sometimes you get scared to stop incase the inspiration vanishes for a few days. Your face is awesome *lmao*

Haha, mine isn't inspiration, it's horrendous deadlines.
I've actually been finding it works best if I force myself to stop at like midnight or whatever, and sleep then carry on in the morning.
Thanks, glad you like it.
While I'm here... warm up drawings and a true story from last week:
(The metal fell 4 stories. Depending on how it fell, it could have easily killed me. Wheee.)

Drawing rough rough stuff as a break from the clean and cute I'm doing for work. What should hopefully be one of four of a set of linked characters:
This is Vidya. He's from the same thing Geoff and Leighton are from, an old supporter of the house of Change who wants to bring things back to the way they were. He lives in your dreams. His hoody is glaring at you when you're not looking.

Second in the set:
This is Theo. He used to be much the same as Vidya, but instead of wishing for the past he embraced the future and cut his own path. He is somewhat unstable.

First off, every so often I find myself in here admiring your stuffs. Your style and how you draw expressions are awesome. Then, a few weeks later, it's me sitting here going "oooo... I like the last few sketches you posted. What'd you use to color them with?" then thinking I should ask, but never get the nerve to ask.
Anyhow, the way you shaded them is really cool.. (and makes me wish I had more inspiration XD)

Thanks.
Most of the time I use a set of grey water-colour brush pens. Zig Graphic Twins usually, though they're less easy to get than the tombo ones and I use some of those as well. There's also pencil, black biro and white gel pen in there. I tend to start off with pencil (except that latest one which was straight in pen), then add the brush pen stuff and then go back in with the biro to darken up certain parts of the lines. I also use copic sketch markers sometimes but because they're spirit based they behave differently. The ones I use are waterbased and while they're less smooth, it's easier to keep building up tones with the same pen rather than switching to a darker one like you need to with proper markers.
Because the pens I use aren't a proper spectrum but just random greys and grey-ish colours I picked up, some of them are more blue than others, which means I can get a bit of difference in how saturated (coloured, for want of a better word) things are. That gives some more contrasts, and makes it a bit more interesting to look at than genuine greyscale that's just been colourised. Often I'll shift the hue a bit (like I made the Theo pic a colder blue and Vidya more pink) but on the actual page it's all in a bunch of blues and greys.

Okay, this kinda counts as art because I made the background myself and tweaked the template to use with it, but... Here's my new blog:
http://katycoope.blogspot.com/
(it's based on the 'Dark Dots' tempate but with quite a few adjustments.)
It has been described as 'a very rainbow acid trip', and I somewhat agree. I'm going to be using it for general news of what I'm doing, kid friendly stuff and art related things, I think. Whereas Tea and White Noise (which I've just moved to http://ktcoope.wordpress.com/ and given a swanky new header too) will remain grown up and have more general games, tech, and other things in. (General personal stuff is going to Live Journal, which I'm going to make friends only I think.)

Preview for that photoshop speedline tutorial I'm working on. Cause I needed an image to put the speedlines on. The tutorial will show how to make the brush and presets, and how to use it to make speedlines like this, or the ones where they all go in the same direction too. (I've just not drawn the image for that yet)
It be Ray. Inked in brush pen. Toned on photoshop. About to kick some ass. Wheeee!
Hopefully should have the tutorial done in a few days.
