Gejinka is fun, but I will always prefer the original.

I voted on 'both', too.
I love the whole original 'humaren' look. The big eyes, big round head, no nose, horns/hat etcetc.
I wasn't into the whole 'gijinka' thing until i saw how well it could be done.
So, yeah. Both.

I voted for Gejinka, mostly because I like to see peoples' spins on humanizing characters. However, I also like the Maren versions so it's close to a toss-up in my book.

Agree. My reasons are pretty much the same.I voted for Gejinka, mostly because I like to see peoples' spins on humanizing characters. However, I also like the Maren versions so it's close to a toss-up in my book.
I like the Gejinka because it's fun to humanize the characters and give them different outfits while resembling the original.
In the other hand, I also like the normals because, you have to agree, there are no Gejinka without the originals. :3 But I like the 'maren look anyway, with or without the humanized versions.

I voted Normal... I like Gijinkas, they're really fun to draw and they can be pretty damn entertaining to look at... but I prefer the characters as they first came into being. Even more so though I love reimaginings of how the ingame guys look. There's some terrifying Reala art out there that springs to mind...

Both.
We always have the characters as they were originally meant to be. And then we have other people's interesting spins on them. I'm particularly fond of Sa-chan's gijinka takes, myself.

I used to be a bit ehhhhh about humanised Sonic type characters but i've grown to like them over time due to the large amount of talented artists here. I'll stick to drawing them normal though XD (well as normal as i can get ahah)

Original. Definitely.

I like both. Humanized never thrilled me until I actually tried to DRAW them human, then I liked it.
Just goes to show, you don't know if you'll like something until you try it.

Normal.
I've seen very few well-rendered human versions of non-human characters (including but not limited to the casts of NiGHTS and Sonic). It's possible, and I enjoy when people pull it off well. But so often, especially when the default stylization for the human form is anime, non-human characters lose all of their unique quirks when drawn in template anime style.
For me it's really an issue of character design: to transfer a non-human character to human form, you have to be very, very concious of the principles of caricature and character design, giving special attention to what features make each character uniquely themselves. Colors and outfits do not a character make. Shapes, actions, expressions, poses, body language: all of those elements effect how we percieve and interpret two-dimensional characters. Just because your anime human has purple hair and blue eyes =/= easily recognizable NiGHTS gejinka.
I have seen a few good gejinkas where I looked at the picture and instantly recognized who the character was supposed to be. Unforunately pictures like that tend to be needles in a haystack on sites like dA.

I will have both! Seriously, it is nice to see the charas in another style, but I love the official designs too. The joy and tribulations of fanart! They are many. I don't want to knock any good art. However, I'll not picture the gejinka ones in my mind as the true character.

I voted for normal, 'cause although I do like Gejinka, I always draw the characters in their normal style. XD I would like to try Gejinka style at some point, but I just need to sit down and find time to give it a go!

the original in-game NiGHTS is awesome but Gejinka is also so cool and lets you see how others would imagine a more-realistic character
