I was in the middle of "Bridge to Terabithia" and the anime "Black Cat". I was also watching "Frisky Dingo" and "Love Hina". ^_^

Yikes, arrested too? That's a bit much...

So sad, because it was my gateway to a number of shows that I'd lost. Lots of old shows on there, which was awesome.

Wonder if they're going to attack Tweekerville next.

This has been a topic of interest to more than a few people, I imagine.

Just to point out, the main reason the guy was arrested and the website shut down was because some of the movie links he had linked to were uploaded video recordings from advanced previews(or American screenings) from cinemas.
Therefore, you could watch the movie online before it was released in the UK.

Where this is illegal, the newspaper article released about it claims that the videos could be downloaded from the site, which is not true.
First of all, there was no button on the site which made it easy to download them. Any instance of such would have to come from the watcher exploiting the site some manor.
Secondly, and I note how the newspapers don't seem to state this clearly, there was no indication that the guy himself uploaded any of the videos, he just found them on other hosting sites and made a compilation of the links. There was no mention in the article, either, in a crackdown of finding anyone who had uploaded such illegal videos.

Thats about as much info as I know so far.

Also, I notice how the removal of such a big site has spawned much talk, on many message boards, now including here. No doubt people and police alike will flock to these topics to find out if people are linking similar sites to replace it, ultimately making it easier to find and shut down similar sites. They may have been just making an example of the sites creator, but doing so will undoubtedly lead to further success against sites like tv-links.

Unfortunately, if this a result, we will again see a large waste of time of people building collections of links being punished, when it should be the original uploader, or the hosting site, such as perhaps youtube, etc who should be being punished, as they are not doing their job to stop such uploadings.

I used to visit tv-links religiously, and quite the contrary; any video uploaded or linked that was streamed as a DivX AVI file was played back using the DivX web plugin, which you could right-click and use to save the video to your hard drive once it was completely loaded. That's how I got some of my animes. I knew that once that became known it was going to be trouble for the site...I didn't think it would come to this... :)

And this is the same shaky legal ground that's faced by many torrent search engines. They don't provide any torrents to copyrighted data, they just link to them on other sites. So when the feds come searching, they take the lazy man's way and go after the first site they can find. If they've done nothing wrong or even truly illegal then why are they treated and seen as purebred criminals?!

Why don't they just shut down the Internet while they're at it? ^_^

Yeah when i heard about this my first thought was 'wtf and what about Google'. TV-links was just a manual google. Google links to a multitude of illegal activities from Terrorism sites to Paedo rings. When i first saw the website i do admit i was stunned it was still running, but then realised it was only a links website.
If places like Youtube and Google etc want to remove the majority of copyrighted/illegal bigbucks stuff why dont they just make certain keywords an auto delete feature. I know it would just result in people naming their videos with other names... but if you upload a video called 'DISNEY LION KING RIP' or a site called 'SNUFF VIDEOS EXTREME!111' it should flag it for deletion or make it impossible to upload. I know this would annoy tons of people (and would probably mess up a lot) but it's better than having people arrested.

;_; My....anime....Im still angry. Oh and that is a good point. It did link to other Video viewers, like Divx and Ouou. I can understand it broke laws though. Google is unintentional. They dont choose what websites they bring up.

This is true, but only an aspect of the DivX player, and so is the fault of the player, not so much the webpage...again falling back to the websites which the videos were uploaded to....and even at that, I did not know you could save in this manor and is part of what I said about the watcher being able to exploit this fact.

It's a great loss, though, as we lost all those 'blast from the past' programmes they don't sell on DVD or show on TV anymore.

(and I'm glad the board seems to have regained its senses. It went hella wonky a little while earlier.)

TT___TT.

I'll be honest, the first time I saw TV-Links, I was surprised it was up in the first place. Knew it was only a matter of time... but still, I must agree, all it was was a links site. Nothing else. It's the actual uploads that are illegal, not the site.

Saw that the other day, but it looks more like a voluntary take-down. Can't say I blame the guy.

I'm disappointed by both sites going down, yet I'm not surprised or outraged by it. It's not the end of the world.

All good things must come to an end. No doubt someone will rise to replace them, though, then we go round and round the Law tree all over again.
