A good interview has gone up on SEGANerds featuring Omar Woodley and Dan Gallardo the ASR producers from the states. Wanted to copypaste this section for you guys:

K: It's impossible to please everybody, but were there any major cheers or outrages by fans on SEGA's decisions?

D: Well one character that caused an enormous uproar was Nights.

O: *laughs* you're lucky SEGA listens, because he's in the game just because of the community outcry. Basically he wasn't in the game as of two months ago. After the community demand for Nights, we thought to ourselves -How are we going to get Nights in the game. He's got no car and we don't have time to balance and build him,- but fortunately we came up with the idea of having him as the flag guy. It was perfect.

K: How much would you say the fan community, suggestions, and input played into design choices in SSASR

O: They definitely did have a big influence in the development of the game. The initial success we received for Sega Superstars Tennis really kept this franchise going. Sumo Digital are actually huge SEGA fans themselves and were constantly talking to the SEGA community. Sumo Digital were actually the ones who pushed for and decided on putting Nights in SSASR.

I love Sumo and Sega. Even though NiGHTS was ignored initially, they did a lot for us by adding Flagbabe. :)

The Community Motto:

"NiGHTS. Don't forget him or we'll e-mail bomb your ass!"

XD

It's so cool to hear our little niche community getting mentioned like this.

Well Sumo Digital and Sega did a great job of developing Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing. According to the interview, the DLC will be on Xbox360 and Playstation 3.

Makes you feel like all the crap we were put through was worth it. :3

The NiGHTS community is a giant purple monster lurking in the hallways of SEGA and Sumo Digital, making sure they never forget NiGHTS. lol

Andersam is becoming Super Saiyan Andersam! :)

Anyway, it's really inspirational in a way to think that a small group of fans of a decade-old game and it's almost forgotten sequel could band together to protect what we love.

Even if it did smush a few email servers. :)

Today's a good day to be a NiGHTS fan. ^^

As for the motto, I thought it was "Yeah, we went there" because of everything from the 'D:' topic. >> Although crashing a server sounds a lot more awesome. lol

I love you all. :)

Put the two together!

"NiGHTS. Don't forget him or we'll e-mail bomb your *expletive*! Yeah, we went there."

See! It's perfect!

So how the campaign going so far? Did Trippy receive the new amount of emails that supports NiGHTS DLC? I've certainly done my part by sending it to the destinated email address. I love NiGHTS.

lol XD

Okay. That was a good laughing fit. Heh ha ha. The best part is...well, my mind kinda wandered to what could be e-mail bombed. Weird mind brought forth mailbox, cat, THEN 'wait-a-minute-what-did-Zero-put?'

Need to find...suitable...picture...for motivational...thing... But what picture? Hmm...

Edit: Kinda occupied at the moment and I always bite at making these. Someone else could do better than this though. Eh. At least it's not the "Screw You, Bob" pic. >>

I hope that they decided to have NiGHTS as one of the playable DLCs. I mean I've been looking forward for him/her to compee in the race with the other Sega characters.

You know ...part of me really wants to do another mass-bombing with just this image being in all the emails. Lol, it would piss them off but it would certainly boost momentum.

This was a really good idea, actually. The motivational image idea. Sending hundreds of them to SEGA might have pushed them a little further towards realising NiGHTS dlc is worth it.

Alas, the game is out this week and we're technically out of time. But what was actually a joke there could have been quite an interesting wave for the campaign XD;

@DiGi - Well if need be, the motivational image idea can be put on hold for when NiGHTS needs us again. I'd love to see the expression someone would get from receiving a ton of those things. XD

Motivational image wave. Use in case of emergency.

@TRiP - The feeling's mutual, but at least something was done before the launch. NiGHTS will be in every race regardless of the lineup of racers. He got a useful role in ASR and we at least had enough time for that to happen.

Racing would have been nicer, but now he's in your face in every lap. No one forgets the flagman.

K: What made you decide to give the SEGA characters karts/vehicles?

O: Actually the initial idea was to have runners and flyers as well. At one point Sonic was running, but there were huge balancing and size issues. It was a big mess. We needed to create a nice balanced spectrum for all racers, so thus we decided on karts. Sumo Digital specially outsourced the design of all the karts specifically for each character€™s uniqueness.

Dude, that would be totally awesome for race modes; ground races for the ground type characters, flying races for the flying characters. Ah whatever. It would be a mess.. sounds better on paper I'm sure.

But anyway as per the topic hell yeah thank goodness we got Sumo on our side.. I still can't believe NiGHTS wasn't gonna be in the game at all. Hoo, terrible.
