K: It's impossible to please everybody, but were there any major cheers or outrages by fans on SEGA's decisions?
D: Well one character that caused an enormous uproar was Nights.
O: *laughs* you're lucky SEGA listens, because he's in the game just because of the community outcry. Basically he wasn't in the game as of two months ago. After the community demand for Nights, we thought to ourselves -How are we going to get Nights in the game. He's got no car and we don't have time to balance and build him,- but fortunately we came up with the idea of having him as the flag guy. It was perfect.
K: How much would you say the fan community, suggestions, and input played into design choices in SSASR
O: They definitely did have a big influence in the development of the game. The initial success we received for Sega Superstars Tennis really kept this franchise going. Sumo Digital are actually huge SEGA fans themselves and were constantly talking to the SEGA community. Sumo Digital were actually the ones who pushed for and decided on putting Nights in SSASR.
