I got the game for Christmas and I am in love. Sure, Space Channel 5 is like the worst of the 70s campy futurism smooshed into one game, but it is so adicting! All the precise movements make the game pretty near impossible sometimes, though. Who would have thought that I find a game about a go-go dancing news broadcaster harder than Tetris. :lol:

So, let's chat! What do you all think of this game? I actually like Ulala. Despite looking rather...trampy (and yet somehow totally cool), she makes for a pretty strong heroine. The graphics are superb, to boot. Ulala's dance posse cracks me up everytime more people join. I played this for about an hour straight. By the end, my brain was goop, soI started prancing about like Ulala and humming the game's song, totally unware. Guess who has no life. ;)

The perfect antedote to too much Space Channel 5 is an issue of the Tales from the Crypt comic. Nothing like gruesome deaths to cure hours of campy sci-fi. :D

Ah, The Nightmare that is space channel 5,I can't control it, I loose everyone try to save, ulala is an ok character *someone actually made her for the sims 1,talk about creepy* not much i liked about this game,but it is an intresting game, :lol: *edit* Oh and btw,my version is the original dreamcast version, ;)

Ulala is pretty much number one on the "list of video game characters Nemoide wants to sex up".

The game is so much fun! It just gets one in the mood to dance! Plus seeing Ulala lead a squad of rescued dancers who are synchronized to her movements? Pretty excellent. It is perhaps too short but has replay value out the wazoo.

(Also Tales From the Crypt is also greatness)

WAY to much information, Nemoide.

I'm only on the second level, so thus far I am not worried about replay value, but that's good to know. I love the dance posse. They rock. Although some of the dancers vanished suddenly. do they do that when your ratings drop?

(and yay EC Comics)

Me? No, I *just* beat Coco Tapioca. For some reason I am terrible at the second level- it goes "boing" everytime I try to shoot. :lol:

I bought it, but could not figure out how to play it for the life of me. @_@ Now it lives on my ps2 game shelf.... maybe I'll pick it up again sometime before school starts.

It's actually not terribly complicated -once you get into it- Just repeat the aliens moves at the EXACT SAME TIME they do. Never play when you're tired, it's quite complicated. But just keep playing *eventually* you'll get it. That's my (crappy) advice. ^_^

Ahahaha, SC5 (more specifically, SC5 pt 2) is one of my all-time favourite games! Mainly just because it's stupidly addictive and hilarious XD

Yeah SC5 is awesome. I got the special edition for PS2 for 2 bucks from gamestop. Best 2 bucks I ever spent. I just can't beat that reverse robot at the end of the first one. I swear I'm doing things right but it keeps saying I've failed.

You got it for 2 bucks?! Wow! Ah, the famous (at least for me) "I did it right but for some reason it keeps boinging" syndrome. I guess you have to be waaaaaaay exact. Like, 1/100000000th of a second off and it's wrong. ^_^

Are you sure you are using the right shoot button (A-button vs. B-button)? But also the Dreamcast version is known for being frustrating until you really get into the groove.

Also it is worth noting that I managed to get the game for $2 as well but the DC version. After the DC was cancelled, the games were being sold for rediculously cheap all over the place.

GO GO GO GO SPACE CHANNEL 5! LET'S GET DANCING! LET'S GET---oh, woops wrong part, heh-heh. Yeah, Space Channel 5 is awesome, and I have the gameboy version af Part One and beat it...a lot of times. However, even if I never played it, my fav of those two is Part 2. Why? A whole lotta Space Michael and Purge is a way funnier bad-guy to see dance around than Blank XD! Here is some overly possitive advise:
* Shootin: {(A)button/(X)button} to shoot morolian/robots/Rythem Rogues
{(B)button/(O)button} to save humans
* Dancing: Chu is (A)/(X) --- Hey is (B)/(O) It appears that "Hey" is only used in part 2
* Listen to the beat...it might be the key! This is how I beat Evila.
* Y'know that icon on the bottom left? Look when the routine starts in correspondent to the icon setting.
* Count beats. Again, this is how I beat Evila.

This should help you alot, I guess....though it looks like GBA is a little different than the PS2. If you can't beat report 2 yet, Evila in report four(last) will pwn you. Srsly. "Rightright! Rightleftdown. Chu-chu-chu!" It's HARD. I'm never able to get a perfect on that battle...well, I can get that move right.

Beating Robot evila is pretty easy- just turn your controller upside down! :D I've only played the dreamcast version of part 1 though, I heard it's a lot better than the PS2 and GBA versions

Love this.

Anyway, I have Space Channel 5 for PS2 and love it. I'm a sucker for style and this game has it in spades. It also has Space Michael which is even better. There is only one problem I have with this game though...

I suck at it.

I can never get the timing consistently right. It's a cruel irony of sorts considering I can nail combos and just attacks in fighters relatively well yet I can't make the freaking groovy reporter dance. :lol:

Ah, Space Channel 5. I found a copy for the Dreamcast some years ago at Walmart. It was the only Dreamcast game there, and the sales guy actually asked me if I had the right system to play it. (Gee, Mr. Clerk Guy, aren't all of these video game thingies the same? It's not like there's some kind of, like, logo on the side or something. :()

I bought it for $2.50, and got at least ten times worth of fun out of it. Years later, when Special Edition was released for PS2, I bought that one right away.

I still prefer the Dreamcast version of Part 1, though...

Yeah I got the PS2 version for around $3 as well. It was practically a steal. I also felt kind of bad for it. Tucked away with all of those games on the bottom shelf, being ignored by all who pass. I just had to buy it.

I remember reading my brother's Game Informer magazine because they had a review of Special Edition for PS2. The article practically begged readers to buy the game this time around.

People must have, because I found the last copy in the three video game stores in the mall. But it seems it didn't sell very well pre-owned, because the price went down really fast.

I don't know if I'm allowed to bump this topic or not, but seeing as it's better than making a new topic on this.

I love Space Channel 5! It may be cheesy, but it's a good kind of cheesy! Purge is a pretty awesome bad guy, I mean anyone who Pelvic Thrusts through the first part of the final battle earns a win point from me.
And you can play as him, which is always fun!

Also, the music in this game is pretty sweet, the songs get stuck in your head. I find myself singing "This is My Happiness" sometimes!

Part 2 was definitely better than Part 1. There was so much more variety. I wish they'd make a Part 3 but I don't think the modern gaming world would want it. People in this day and age seem to look at insanely imaginative games with an evil eye.

Oh yes, it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insa-a-a-a-ane! SP5 is so delightfully campy, and it knows how to revel it's it's craziness, not shun it. I find myself strutting about humming "Mexican Flyer" all the time. :o

I couldn't have said it better myself!!! Do you know how bad it feels to be the only eighth grader in (probably) the whole city who plays NiGHTS and Space Channel 5?!!! They're even ditching POKEMON and Sonic---well, Sonic's been goin' downhill, but I degress. They're all turning to Halo and Modern Warfare and stuff. I can't even find a Silent Hill fan...

Anyways, Space Channel 5 needs more credit in Sega and a part 3. They think it won't sell?! It's their fault for slacking! Argh. I'm getting a video game making degree in college, so we'll have one atleast about 13 years from now. Let's hope it comes much earlier. (Sheesh, Space Channel 5's gong the same route as NiGHTS with Sega.)

I haven't been able to find this game anywhere. After hearing about it so much around here (and seeing that video Nemoide linked to... Just wow) I look around the local GameStops only to find it's not there. SC5 is starting to become more elusive than Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. Hopefully I can find it around town one day. It looks fun and...really difficult. @_@

Edit: O__O There's...two copies in town. Or at least there should be. I'll have to wait until it stops raining and I'm able to call, confirm, and take the one hour to one and a half hour ride to the Gamestop that should have the PS2 edition.

....I'll admit I have a problem once I'm done watching some SC5 vids on youtube...and I get my hands on certain games. >>;

FUN FACT: supposedly, SC5 is twice as fun if you use a DDR pad.

I only have the DC version of SC5 and an Xbox/PS2 DDR pad. So I need to get the PS2 version of SC5 in order to test this claim. But it sounds awesome.

There's...a GBA version of the game? O_o Still going after the PS2 port. Heh heh. Five bucks is a steal. ^^ Now I just have to hope it doesn't disappear by Friday. >>;

And Nemoide, if you do finally test out that fun fact, I wish you luck. By the looks of the game, it's pretty tedious, even more so than DDR at times. One wrong misstep and you'll shoot a victim by mistake. ._. Save the people who are dancing badly!

DDR pads have sensors on the corners for the non-directional buttons, so shooting is simple.
(Also since I play DDR on Heavy, I'm pretty sure I can handle anything SC5 can throw at me.)

And I also want an Ulala statue... It was probably a Japanese resin kit - something which is very expensive and requires serious model-making/painting skills to make it look fancy. BUT IT WOULD BE SO COOL!
