Download Joytokey (if you want to use a joypad by mapping the cursor keys and space bar to your usb pad - download link is at the bottom of the page)
I think its got loads of potential. Plays very much like the GBA Scoreattack (but better imo lol) And the guy is very open to comments and ideas. Hes also got a level edit if you wanna give that a go to.
Also I think he might be looking for artists to do the visuals, as everything there at the moment are just for the time being I think.

EDIT: I was wrong - it looked similar to something I played a while ago. I went back and played it cause you said it was new - and its actually quite good. As you said gsk - its got loads of potential!

i'm surprised that people haven't made too many attempts at creating fanmade NiGHTS games, it looks simple to make

Well thats loads of postive comments so thats good. Any ideas for other features? Anyone willing to do some design ideas for it -- NiGHTS model, background, items etc
I'm a lil' busy at the moment, but I'm willing to help if he needs any. I'd be glad to make a background, even if it's just a temporary one.
So far, I agree, it's very fun ! A lot of it reminds me of the original NiD, but it's not exactly the same, so it's still some thing new and fun whether you've played the original before or not.

I'll address a few of the comments I've seen here so far:
I plan to have a variety of backgrounds, depending the the stage the player selects. It's entirely possible that there can be multiple backgrounds within a single stage, as well (each lap can have its own). I just haven't gotten around to drawing more backgrounds just yet and, so far, I only have a single stage anyway.
As you can see from my graphics, I'm certainly open to any contributions anyone would like to make. I can only get so far with my current programmer art. Heh.
The next update should be a big one, but it may still be a day or so off, depending on my schedule. It should add a functional high score table that keeps track of max links and your scores so that everyone can see how they stack up against everyone else. I've also made a fourth track, which may be the final one for this particular stage. Four sounds like a good number to me, since that's what Score Attack used, but it's not set in stone, and it's easy enough to change.
As odd as it sounds, the stage select is proving to be one of the harder aspects to implement. When I started this thing, it was really for my own amusement and I didn't plan on getting too detailed with it, so I didn't bother to leave myself "openings" for things like menus. Now I need them, so I've got to wedge all these square pegs into round holes because of lack of foresight. Heheh. It can be done, but it might take awhile as I have to tear some things apart, reassemble them, and then pray for the best.
Thanks for all the feedback, everyone.

EDIT:
The game can now be played at http://www.side-quest.com/sqgames/flight
There is now a ranking system in place. I see gsk has already made it on the list. Heheh.

Name wise, howabout 'NiGHTS Scoreattack OE' (Online Edition - injoke for all us custom firmware psp users) - which reminds me, any chance of an PSP version? You cant even play Java on the browser...
Whats the scoring system anyway? How do the points increase?
Also, can you delete multiple high score entries? It could get a bit messy if we all have half a dozen places on the table. And thank you very much for giving us a ridiculus high score to try to beat! o_O

I like gsk's idea, NiGHTS Scoreattack OE. I was thinking "NiGHTS Into Java". And, a PSP version would be good, imo.

The scoring system works like this:
Rings - 5pts
Stars - 10pts
Each item you collect within 2 seconds of each other increases the multiplier by 1. So, if you go through three rings that are close together, your points will increase like this: 5+10+15 = 30 points. If you had gone through them slowly, you would get 15.
The multiplier caps at 10, and stays there as long as the link is sustained. This means that those same three rings would give you: 50+50+50 = 150. Much nicer that 15.
Sorry about my ridiculous high score. As you can imagine, I've had a lot of practice, and that was an especially good run for me. I may get around to removing it if nobody gets near it sometime soon. Heheh.
I'm probably going to avoid calling the game "NiGHTS" anything, just because I don't want to receive a letter from Sega's lawyers. I've seen too many much more worthy projects shut down by the proper copyright owners. I'm already uncomfortable using the temporay Score Attack sprite as it is. I wouldn't be as worried if there wasn't that recently announced NiGHTS game coming out (I started this game a month before the PSO GC servers were shut down, which was a week or two before they announced JoD).
EDIT: The game should probably run smoother for some people now. I just discovered and fixed a bug that was causing EVERYTHING two be drawn twice per frame (still, not as bad as a similar bug I had that was causing the clouds and stars to repeatedly draw L times per frame, where L is the number of laps you completed. No wonder it was chugging after playing for more than a minute!) Anyway, it runs silky smooth for me now.

After the character sprite, the palace needs something better next. I can live with the clouds and sky (I kinda like them to honest), but have the goal so plan is a bit annoying.
Like the new features - NiGHTS moving legs and the go to goal message (though any chance that can flash under the time instead of in the middle of the screen - it looks a bit messy imo)

And the goal sprite was me just throwing something together in Paint so I'd have something to look at. I'd love for somebody to draw something better. A new character sprite would be great, too. I've looked at the art board and many of the people on here are amazing. If I could borrow just a sliver of their talent, I'm sure the game would improve greatly.

Err....it runs a little too fast for me now; NiGHTS goes super-fast and the seconds go by a lot faster. Is that normal, or is it a problem? Also, I can't get the arrow keys to work with it ><.
Someone else was having a similar problem. What browser and operating system are you using, out of curiosity? It was working before for you, right?

I use IE 7, and Windows XP Home Edition. And, yes, it was working fine before. I'll try Firefox or another browser asap, if it'll help you (and me )!Someone else was having a similar problem. What browser and operating system are you using, out of curiosity? It was working before for you, right?

Yeah. Let me know if that does anything. I've been running it on Firefox.
Also, sometimes it tries to use a cached version of the game mixed with some of the updates, which causes problems. To avoid this, I sometimes have to close all my browser windows so that it clears the cache. For some reason, manually clearing the cache from within the browser doesn't keep it from loading the older files. I think there's a way for me to force the browser to fully download the stuff every time the page is visited, but I have yet to figure out how.

Does it never work in IE now, or only sometimes?
