Ian's made some interesting changes. One of which would be the addition of Bark and Bean to the cast. Bean has been especially hilarious. I quote...
"Hey Sonic? Hey. Hey Sonic? Why are you so fast? Why are you blue? Are you and the princess going to marry and have mutant hedge-squirrel babies?"
Any thoughts?

The writer, Ken Penders (who I think was also responsible for the Archie NiGHTS comic, IIRC), got very absorbed in constructing the comic's universe into his personal view of it. A personal view which wasn't exactly... a good one. He introduced a lot of unneeded characters and bad story arcs.
The new guy, Ian, seems to be doing a good job of fixing Pender's mistakes. He's gotten rid of a lot of the elements that sullied the story.
... Like that damn Turtle that wouldn't die, for example.

From what I've seen that seemed to have been a bad habit in those years. Character seemly dies, often in a tragic or heroic way, only to return later and be all "I'm fine now~".... Like that damn Turtle that wouldn't die, for example.

Anyway, Ken Penders and the former editor really ended up screwing up a lot of the universe (Tommy the Turtle being only one example). It's sad because Penders is also behind the amazing Knuckles series. But things are on a serious up-swing now and the series has become something good for Sonic fans once again!
It may not be one of the most intelligent or mature of comics but it certainly is fun to read again.

But anyways, I would have to agree that Ken Penders kinda messed up the comic. I figured out why my 9 year old brother drew in, ripped up and chewed on issue 154 - it was horribly written, and I just realized that in the comic, Sonic had a crush on Mina Mongoose, then became Fiona Fox's boyfriend, then realized that he couldn't live without Princess Sally. Too many plot changes within the space of three issues.

They were pretty kick-ass when I was a kid, though. I remember waiting anxiously for the mail every first week of the month.

Basically the best part about the series is how everything feels RIGHT. I think the writer was a fan before he became the writer, something which cannot be said for much of the older staff. The art is consistently solid. As already stated, the current regime have been fixing up the continuity and stories from all the lame-ness and the tons of loose ends from the previous writers/editor and have been doing a great job.
I think the comic might be at overall peak quality right now (with the possible exception of some classic standout issues), actually. And I just re-read every issue not long ago!
Basically, if you have ever had an interest in the comic at all, it is worth giving it another chance.

I just recently picked up a copy for a trip down memory lane (although I don't know how old the issue actually is) it had Knuckles being some character named... Enerjak? was it?
I put the dang thing down less than half-way through...
Enerjak dates back to Pender's fubarred Sonic universe. Ian Flynn was working around in a rather good way. Their only issue now is that they keep doing the issues in a way that you can't just pick one up and start reading from there. SatAM didn't have that issue...

"Limit?" I got your "limit" right here!
...and he made Sally's hair short again! Yay~
Edit: Forgot to mention the delightful bitch-slap Tails got from Fiona. I love the maturity. XD

I started to pick up the series again when Potto took the reins. I think the best I've ever seen outta him was issue 175 when Eggman showed just how dark he can truly be. I can never forget Sonic's pissed-off determined(or demented?) retaliation of Eggman's words.

I've made darker villains. I made an army of demonic monsters attack Mobius in my book that I intend on using for Archie. And don't diss them. That's just how they interpret Sonic's world. And don't you want to know how I met Mike Pellerito?? C'mon, I'm possibly the only one here who knows what he is actually like.

Nah, just some power-hungry demi-god with chaos powers that gets the crap beaten out of him by Super Sonic whom is trying to stop Dr. Finitevus (think Heath Ledger's Joker, but as a Sonic Character) from turning Mobius into an anarchy.

I like the Archie comics. Well, it's not so much that I LIKE them but that it's addicting to me. Damn cliffhangers. You just need to buy that one next issue, get that one last storyline, and for what? FOR WHAT?! YOU GET A GODDAMN CLIFFHANGER AT THE END OF THAT ONE TOO! And you gotta buy the next, and the next, and the next, until you have no room for them anymore!
It's like crack for Sonic fans!
Tell me about it! Anyway, I also hear that they may finally put Omega into the story. Either that or Silver, but that would ruin the any chance of a SOnic Next-Gen inclusion, which I think may end up happening in that comic.
EDIT: Metal Scourge is here. And he looks AWESOME! Ten bucks says he ends up turning into a good guy.

I think he's smart as well as bad ass. I thought it was clever hoe he ordered Sonic to be kidnapped and after he made out he had nothing to do with it since Sonic had no proof.Okay, who here thinks that Mammoth Mogul is a bad-*ss?

the same damn plot being some big, bad enemy shows up, or sonic's love life isn't quite working out, or some random attack from eggman has sonic in major trouble, but we know it won't be the end, because they'll still want their paychecks at the end of the month.
they either need originality, or they need to kill it, because hedgehogs aren't immortal.

i read the comic for a while- it was pretty good. then, after about 30 comics or so, i realized, "hey, it's the same damn plot we just had" and haven't bought another one since.

As much as you'd think that, that isn't very true. To you that may be the case, but personally, I can easily tell that the work is VERY original (though some character origins are a parody off of other villainsd from different franchises). That's pretty much the only unoriginal thing I can see. And my only complaint is that Omega isn't in the series yet.
Other than that, this series is golden. Recently, apparently, things have picked up. You probably read some of the earlier comics, which weren't as amusing as the ones shown in recent years.

Uh, I've read #149-183. In fact, I kinda wanted to read some of the older stuff.
That, and I've got the Knuckles comic numbers 1-19, and I loved that.
So no, that's not my problem with it.

I have mixed opinions of the Archie Sonic. I like it, but I'm more a fan of Sonic the Comic. I personally prefer more slapstic to the sturm und drang of Archie Sonic. Plus, Sonic the Comic is closer to the game's plot, which I like.
But yay, new folks. I'll have to check it out!
