According to Wikipeda.org:

"In Ojibwa (Chippewa) culture, a dreamcatcher is a handmade object based on a willow hoop, on which is woven a loose net or web. The dreamcatcher is then decorated with personal and sacred items such as feathers and beads."
"The Ojibwa believe that a dreamcatcher filters a person's dreams. According to Terri J. Andrews in the article "Legend of the Dream Catcher," about the Ojibwa nation in the magazine World & I, Nov. 1998 page 204, "Only good dreams would be allowed to filter through . . . Bad dreams would stay in the net, disappearing with the light of day."
It's recommended to hang the dream catcher above someone sleeping to guard against bad dreams. Good dreams pass through and slide down the feathers to the sleeper."

Here's a picture:

So I have three questions:
1) Do you use a dreamcatcher?
2) if you do use a dreamcatcher, how often do you have Nightmares?
3) if you don't use a dreamcatcher, how often do you have nightmares?

I haven't had night nightmare in a while. They are rare ever since I put my dreamcatcher up.

Meh, I've one since I was five and I've been too lazy to take it down.

And I'm always too tired while I'm dreaming to know whether I'm having a nightmare or not. >:|

I have a fancy purple ten-webbed dreamcatcher (I'll try get a photo of it later).

Mostly I have them because I think they're pretty, I still have nightmares with them, but only half-arsed ones that seem to try to be nightmares but fail, or mega-extreme ones that scare me so much that I wake up crying, not regular nightmares.

Picky dreamcatchers.

I have three dream catchers right above my bed; one is very small (keychain size), black, white and red... ones a medium-size, black, purple, pink, and white... and the last one is very large, teal, white, and pink. I've had them for many, many years, and I very rarely have nightmares. The ones I do have though are very disturbing... :/

I used to have a dreamcatcher when I was about ten or so. I don't think all my nightmares stopped. They lessened a little at first...I'm trying to remember if I still had it with me when me moved to Virginia (when I was 11). That was the time when I had nightmares almost every night, the months following the move. Ah...I think I had it, but there was no place to hang it over my head without putting a nail in the wall, and dad didn't want that. It ended up looped on the doorknob of my wardrobe next to my bed. Yeah, that was it! So it might not have worked because it wasn't over my head. That, and I was so upset from the move.

I don't use one now and have nightmares about as much as good dreams.

I do not use one but I had one as a child. I rarely have nightmares and those I do have are interesting enough to prevent me from wanting them gone entirely.

Dreamcatchers are a neat concept though. I like it when people craft things from personally sacred objects to serve a purpose and that sort of thing.

Ooh... old topic or not, this reminds me of when I was a kid. I was maybe six or so, and my grandfather gave my eldest sister a big black and red dreamcatcher. I thought it was beautiful and kinda scary at the same time, but the day she got it we all had really good and peaceful dreams from then on.

She said it caught bad dreams and let you have good dreams, then told me that if I did anything like poke my finger through one of the holes that the nightmares would be released. I didn't really understand or believe what she said. So naturally, being the oh-so-intelligent kid I was, I poked my finger into one of the bigger holes. Hugest. Mistake. Ever. I was cursed for, like... one or two weeks straight to have the most horrible nightmares every night, and I didn't know what to do or how to stop them. After the two weeks they stopped again, but I was, like... traumatized. I've never put anything through a dreamcatcher hole ever again.

Incidentally, I now own that very same dreamcatcher, it's directly behind me but face-down and buried under a bunch of stuff. I'm kinda nervous to ever use it again... but I do have a very small blue and white one right beside me, it's hanging in my door. I haven't had a nightmare again for YEARS, probably not since I was a young kid. Bless them dreamcatchers.

I used to have one, but I put it in storage because I didn't really feel any sort of connection to it. Apparently, they only really work if you make them yourself. I kind of want to make one, but then again, I don't really have nightmares, so I don't know if I need it. Also, I think sometimes it's important to see what happens in your nightmares because they can help you deal with certain things. Unless you feel like you're being mentally harassed by bad dreams on a consistent basis... then that might be a bit much ;P

I used to have a nicely sized dreamcatcher, but took it down after awhile. I don't think I've EVER had a nightmare, to be honest.

There is a double dreamcatcher sitting on my headboard. I haven't had a nightmare in a long while and I used to have a lot of them, but my life has changed around a lot too so I suspect it'd have something to do with that.

I never used a dream catcher. I did research on them which is pretty cool, but when I have nightmares I usually just role with them. o.O

I have a total of 4 of them in my house, but there mainly for decoration: the ones in the living room are black and the two in my room the one on the side of my doorway is also black but with a wolf head in the center and last the one hanging over my bed is a small red one which I had for years (7 or 8 to be exact) If I get the time I'll take a picture of them.

Even their hanging just because they do keep nightmares at bay and the nightmares I do have always had a peaceful ending thanks to the little red dream catcher and later with the three black ones.

There's been a small one hanging over my bed ever since I can remember.
I only get nightmares in times where I'm EXTREMELY stressed, like when my grandfather died. Other wise they tend to manifest as strerss dreams.

I don't use dreamcatchers but I don't really know if they work or not. I think I have a nightmare every six months and a dream every three weeks. I barely have any night adventures.

I used to have a small one but we had to take it down because it broke in two due to my cousin hitting it with a baseball.

It never worked.

I used to have one. Been getting worse nightmares without it x.x

So with, I had none whatsoever, but a recurring image of seeing a bright light dawning over a black horizon ^^;;

Without, yeah, I have tons of crazy dreams...
