Well. Dreams have POV or point of view like video games do. At least, mine do. This came up a couple times in the Lucid topics so I thought I'd make one for this. So how do your dreams look? Do they look like your reality, in first person, with you unable to see yourself? Are they third person, with you as omniscient being and viewing all the characters? Or is it like first person, but you aren't yourself?

I've had all of these and maybe there's some others I don't know about? I've also had dreams where the point of view switches all of a sudden.

My most common POV is third person, with myself as absent from the dream. Second most common is first person, but I'm someone else. Of the dreams I can recall, I can probably number on my hands the ones where I am myself in a normal setting. Being that I'm a writer and have a large imagination, my perception of self is bound up in creation and I think my dreams reflect this.

I notice that my third person dreams procede like novels or stories with a plot and such, sometimes with wacky dream digressions that wouldn't make sense in a normal story.

Sometimes the 'camera angle' of my dreams just changes. I remember a particular zombie dream I had where I was in 'first person but someone else' but the view 'zoomed out' as that person started fighting a zombie. Damned scary dream. I shall put that in my dream diary when I make it.

My first person, myself dreams always look a bit drab. They feel the least real out of all my dreams, or the least involved or interesting. They're usually a bit direct and about how I regard someone else.. such as a recent one where my mother tried to euthanize all the pets in the house

Okay so.. what sorts of views do your dreams have n.n

My dreams have never stuck to just one thing. And it doesn't always stick to one per dream either. I've had first person dreams that ended as me being a completely different person or switched from being amongst the crowd at all to a view from above. I've had a lot of that zoom in and zoom out stuff too, so I think we've had a lot of the same type of stuff.. But it seems whoever is in charge of my dreams is a horrible director and should never make movies.

My dreams... and my memories, oddly enough, usually are in third person. However... in the dreams where I'm actually present as a figure, they're still third person. I'm still not certain as to why it's like this, but... it's really very odd. XD;

Haha Purg's dream director sucks xD Hm.. and most of mine are third person too. I've almost never had a third person dream with myself in it, though, though I suppose it must have happened once or twice.

Another thing is a lot of times I start off "playing" someone else and it ends off as me as myself, replacing that person. Sometimes in my dreams I feel confused as to why that happens- like I ask myself "why are they calling me that" or why they notice something about me physically that wasn't the same on the person I was before.

In my dreams...I'm mostly myself. Actually, I'm just about always the center of attention in my dreams XD.

I've been noticing a lot that when I'm lucid, I tend to appear as a maren. Usually SUSPi (the maren in me avatar ), or NiGHTS.

Most common for me is first person as myself. There's only been a few times when I've been someone else or in third person, at least from what I can remember. Common for all is that the setting is almost never normal. Sure, they feel normal while I dream... and then I wake up and wonder how the heck I can avoid being aware that I'm dreaming with all the weird things going on XD

Quite a few people here tend to appear as maren or NiGHTS in their dreams. To be quite honest, I haven't seen them much. Maybe one or two dreams, and never in Nightopia. I remember seeing NiGHTS and Purgatory in an evil torturing world with a population of mostly midgets, but that's the main one that sticks out. I do wonder if everyone is entirely honest about their maren dreams.

I have a very vague memory of you telling me about that.. and having a "WTF" reaction. But I don't think I could decide about what: Purgatory and NiGHTS together or that it was full of midgets.. But it sounds SO much more silly when you put it this way. When you told me about it, it was more freaky than anything. XD

My dreams are mostly in third person view, just like watching a movie. At times, I end up as one of the characters. The only times I've had dreams in first person view as myself are during some of the semi lucid ones I've had.

As for seeing marens... I've seen Jackle and Reala once, completely random in a non-NiGHTS dream. They stood a little bit away from where things took place, seemingly discussing something... like the weather, or what they were having for lunch. O__o Totally unrelated to the actual dream. XDXD

My dreams are sometimes from my own point of view, and are usually pretty realistic. Meaning that I can see, hear, smell, touch, et cetera. Things don't always make sense in my dreams like they do in reality, though. There are also times I dream in third-person, but I'm still me. I can just see myself doing what I'm doing instead of only being able to see things around me.

I've never had any NiGHTS-related dreams, though.

I normally have first-person dreams, normally somewhat realistic, but they've changed at the drop of a hat to third-person...and in some cases, it's like watching one of my favorite shows, which is a bit out there, when I see 'em.

hum, I find that my point of view is generally 3rd person, but sometimes switched to first. But I'm not always sure when. I find it hard to remeber what view I'm in when I wake up. I knew at one point I was dreaming about me being Yami Yugi from Yugioh (don't ask, very long and weird dream that one was. Lots of walking, cameos, and general weirdness) and that one I'm sure the view did keep switching on me. I was first then third, then first again. Though I do generaly find I'm in 3rd person

Most of my dreams, when I remember them, are in first-person view, with me wandering about normally doing whatever. I don't think I've had a 3rd-person view dream before ( I probably have, I've just likely forgotten about it ^^; ).

Though every so often I go into what I call "camera-mode" where I'm not physically "present" in the dream, but rather acting like the camera for a TV show or cartoon or something, concentrating on the adventures of random other people in the dream. These dreams are usually more entertaining than my first-person ones.

My dreams ( the ones I remember anyway) are a weird sort of third person perspective. I'm myself, I know my train of thought, but i'm watching my actions from the third person.

My dreams are usually in first person, or like a camera set where like you can see me doing stuff from a distance as if I was in a film or something. My imagination while conscious is in an anime like form, where my dreams are almost always in a real life style, or like a fusion.

When I self induce lucidity I usually use a anime form but then it goes off in a real setting or a fusion of both (I have control over myself but not my settings so far.)

As far as speaking goes, its usually in the "dream language" but when it comes to me and MiD, we almost never talk, we let actions speak for ourselves.

For the most part, I seem to dream in first-person, but there have been those instances where I'm thinking from my point of view, but it's in third-person.

yeah i'd say i dream mostly in 1st person. Sometimes though i will dream as though i am the director of a movie where i'm not even part of it. I don't have a character to play. No interaction at all. It's almost as if i lose my sence of self, and because that's so alarming, i come to my senses and try to be brought into the dream, but once i am doing that i realize i am dreaming and wake up.

And to further the 1st person, sometimes i'ts like i am inside my own head and i can see 2 eyeholes seeing what my eyes see. Its hard to explain. Really bizzare.

I'm usually a mix. Sometimes I see me as if it's a movie, and other times I see it from my pov. Sometimes I'm not even there and it's Chris. Or it's me and Chris and it's movie-like. My best dreams that I remember clearly have me as if it's a movie and it's always realistic, except Chris cause he always appears in anime form no matter what. As far as talking goes, it's always English (thank God). But really there's never much talking. Maybe mouth movement but no sound.

Mines are very mixed. I have dreams in first person, second person and third person.

Heck, there was even one dream, I had twice...years apart, where I got shot in the head, and although it had been in first person until then, it swapped to third to look at my body.

Thinking about that now....that's actually rather scary.

So far, a good majority of my dreams are in third person view, where I'm watching myself interact in the dream. But every now and then, I get a first person where everything happens through my eyes and a "non participant" where I just am watching things happen and can't interact in the dream at all. There was one dream though where I was juggled between first and third person... which kind of sucked since I'm sure that I missed something important in the transaction.

I do wonder if everyone is entirely honest about their maren dreams.

I often wonder that here too...

For my dreams it's generally a blend of all views from one moment to the next. Cameras will change randomly, but never feel jarring. More often than not it will be in a cinematic camera angle that often moves around the scene.
My personal favourite transition between third and first was when a character was watching TV. I was not present and watching this in third person. The camera slowly rotated around to this character and became that character's point of view... then the view zoomed in so I could only see what on the TV and nothing else, then the image on the TV became the new camera as a character walked past.
PoV is very fluid in my dreams.

I have that happen in my dreams all the time. It is usually in third person point of view and it is like I am watching TV. Sometimes if I am really invovled I will be in the form of my dream persona. Rarely do I ever see myself in my dreams anymore.

I usually have confusing dreams where I have no idea if I'm even present. =.='

But I've had both, but my most lucid ones are seeing me in 3rd person.
In my 2nd or 3rd lucid dream, I woke up when an arm appeared in front of the "camera" and confused me. -.-' But I've had 1st person dreams too. And I've been in 1st person as another guy too. And then I get confused...

In my "maren dream" (it's in my dream journal if anyone actually cares to know what I'm talking about. Last one, by the way), when I got near him I had no idea if I was the "innocent" girl, me in my PoV, the "camera" or mix of 2 or 3. =.= *cof* Anyways...

I think 3rd person PoV looks good for who can't go to the cinema... Ah, that hurt. Hurting it does. Stupid joke. -.-

My dreams are very strange that way. I'll still have my perception of myself, but at the same time, I can see myself and around in a third person. My dreams tend to allow me to see multiple angles at once, a la 24, for anyone who ever saw it. A small example comes to mind.

I'm barricaded within some local store, and these Naga are attempting to break through the gate. The "camera" makes a slight black box in my vision in 3rd person, and allows me to see the effort of the creatures while they attempt to break through, and I see myself doing what I would do in such a situation.

My dreams tend to be in first person, but I'm almost never in my own dreams anymore. I usually seem to appear as some random character my mind makes up, and I act out some story from there in the first-person view. I have had some third-person dreams, but they're very few and far between.

I've found that my dreams are in both 1st and 3rd person... at the same time quite often... or I guess the transition is so unnoticeable to me, often I will see someone in first person than I will become them in 3rd person without even realizing it and my previous body vanishes or becomes a side character.

My view usually in my dream is 1st person straight through my own eyes ^^ It's rarely anything different. If it is, then it's a dream that has to do with some sort of movie like the lion king dream I had earlier today and even that one was being viewed through my own vision.

So yeah, usually 1st person POV for me and always in color too ^^

Most of the time my dreams are in first person - but instead of myself, from clues like mirrors and other people in the dream, I usually appear as my internet avatar, whatever it happens to be at the time.

I always exclusively see my dream through the first person. Personally, I didn't know that third person was possible. Yep, that's my lesson for the day.

In my dreams, I'm either an invisible watcher, or most important participant, so the majority of my dreams viewed in a first person. I can not see myself in most part of them, though, and mirrors seem not to reflect me either ^_^
