Twin Seeds - Bellbridge
Spring Valley - Pure Valley
Splash Garden - Aqua Garden
Mystic Forest - Memory Forest
Soft Museum - Crystal castle (mirrors anyone?)
Stick Canyon - Lost Park
Frozen Bell - Dream Gate after dreamdrops (that's a stretch but still snowy, btw i loved dream gate)
Delight City is different - Sega, casino, isn't a sega game without one
Creating a new NiGHTS game is not an easy task. You have to be nostalgic, but have new ideas at the same time. When they are popping game out left right and center *COUGHSONICHEROSSHADOWTHEHEDGEHOGSECRETRINGSCOUGH* the franchise goes to hell with craptastic ideas. Sonic died for me after Adventure Battle 2, which imo the best sonic ever.
Look at Disney Masterpieces, they were original. The sequels, Cinderella 2 and 3, little mermaid, etc. well, theyre studio is shut down cause they failed at life. They just didnt gve up until they realized "oh, people like originals more than spin off that make no sense."
When Sega open a franchise, they REALLY open it. How many ******* times do people have to play as a blue hedgehog running around collecting gold rings and saving a damn emerald that the same villain steals every time? The answer, until sega goes bankrupt, moreso.
NiGHTS is a different story cause he wasn't offered a sequel like 1-2 years after his debut. Instead he slept 11 years and woke up to JoD. Now i like JoD cause it wasn't like NiD. JoD gives more to the player. Sure it's not the same, but variety is the spice of life. Less is more, but after 11 years, i'd want something new. Chasing mares is fun and all, but please don't be the central point of the game in a sequel. Chase's imo were an awesome concept. It utilized speed, dash, and links. Everything a mare was, but with an opponent. I found it more virgorating chasing something instead of tackling an object. Yes it lacked the replay till time ran out, but the laps were longer. It was a fresh new idea that spawned off a masterpiece. It did not leech off NiD, i tried to make itself new again.
On to the walking missions. I admit, i'm not fond of them. Why they were put in makes sense though. Have you tried walking around the chase levels? I don't bother. Too large and boring. I liked walking around the dreams as the kids in NiD, and i bet sega wanted to give us a chance to experience it in JoD. Now if you wants NiGHTS's levels to keep its speed up, too much junk in a level can screw up the speed of the game and lag it. If a chase mission had all the bells and whistles mixed with the platforms, well, NiGHTS wouldn't stay that graceful in flight. I know it was painful doing the missions, but you have to admit if you get tired of just flying around at least you have variety to play a different type of game. I think sega just executed them improperly.
Graphic and controls wise, don't blame sega. They had deadlines WHICH THEY DID PUSH AS MUCH AS THEY COULD just to get it this good. Imagine if it were released when it was due. Graphics and controls, well think of who made it. Sega. They don't own a console to have their own. They have to work with what other companies have. Also lacking a proper console makes their sales plummit quite a bit. I don't know the contracts they signed, but i bet anything a portion of Sega's sales go straight to nintendo as they are using their system. Sure the wii remote was an awesome idea, but maybe the remote was ready for NiGHTS. Keep in mind had to work with what they got, their budget, and the time constraints.
As for the remake for ps2, i won't touch that subject. Good idea, good timing, good upgrade BAD AREA. When was the last time anyone seen a Japanese NiGHTS community like this? Anyone? To quote sonic "Im waaaaaaaaiting". That's what i thought.
Now if NiGHTS did have a sequel, expect:
Wizeman to become a comedic character with no darkness and mystery that the main characters can fart on and laugh at
Reala will get himself a game soon enough where he will sport a gun and motorbike
Reala will also have a female counterpart to be his sidekick/enemy
Sonic will somehow be a playable character and fly
Jackle will once again not be in it
Bomamba probably will be in it just to **** us off
NiGHTS will undergo corrective surgery and officially adopt a gender cause mothers will complain their child is playing a game without "positive christian values about sexuality"
The important thing to remember, sega made a sequel for a reason. Either for the fans, or to open up pandoras box and unleash hell upon the NiD franchise. I seriously hope there is no NiGHTS 3, NiD was perfect, JoD was it's nod and anything more is just for money. Now i wrote all this on my way to class and started ranting along the way so if something is unclear or wrong correct me and ill fix it. kthxbai, onto medival poetry and prose for me!!!

More use of wi-fi, chat option in my dream and also the ability to customise what your dream looks like slightly. I felt a bit of restriction in JoD and would have prefered more freedom to wander around and discover little secrets ect (more than dream drops). In my opinion, the controls for the wii werent 'terrible' but was easier with nunchuck or for some, classic controler. More flying levels with NiGHTS and better save system where you dont have to start those mini levels again. Improved graphics and script. Oh aaand would love some new added features (just cos we're all complicated now XD) like being able to create your own nightmarens so you can show them to friends in my dream! Wonder if you can take on that task guys

If by some reason Sega does make a new NiGHTS it will be an utter failure. It took 11 years for JoD, which imo was amazing. But once u open up a franchise from a piece of art, you kill it. JoD was more of a nod to the original than an expansion, which it did quite well. Almost all levels reflected NiD:
Twin Seeds - Bellbridge
Spring Valley - Pure Valley
Splash Garden - Aqua Garden
Mystic Forest - Memory Forest
Soft Museum - Crystal castle (mirrors anyone?)
Stick Canyon - Lost Park
Frozen Bell - Dream Gate after dreamdrops (that's a stretch but still snowy, btw i loved dream gate)

Jackle, Graphics, Controls, More Chao Garden-y 'My Dream' area.
And, maybe, the 'Official' appearance of UV, if they can do it without screwing it up. (Yeah, right. *Glances at 'Were-Sonic' in the Sonic Unleashed Topic*)

And another thing i will say is this could also be an early April Fools prank, ya know. It is close to April the 1st.
That could be true. Does anyone else but me remember a l'il summin'-summin' about an April Fool's prank about Sonic and Tails being in Super Smash Bros. Melee about four years ago? Hmm? No? Just me?

Remember how closely timed the news of a NiGHTS sequel was to April fool's last year? I dunno about you but the JoD disc I have on my desk right now looks very real to me...That could be true. Does anyone else but me remember a l'il summin'-summin' about an April Fool's prank about Sonic and Tails being in Super Smash Bros. Melee about four years ago? Hmm? No? Just me?
I mean, it COULD still be an April fool's...but I'm still gonna keep my ear to the ground and hope for the best.

Actually, no, I don't. I only learned there was a new game coming out about a month before Christmas.Remember how closely timed the news of a NiGHTS sequel was to April fool's last year? .
But back on topic, I do hope for the best. I hope they work the bugs out of the system, I hope they get the graphics down pat, and I hope they do something useful with it.

I'm hoping for the sequel to be released on the PS3 or Xbox 360 for the AWESOME graphic potential. Looking at the NiGHTS model from Superstars Tennis really would make me wonder how well a game could be for those two systems.
I'm all excited for May now . What is the date for the SEGA Gamer's day, where is it, and is it open to the public?
I hope the sequel goes back to the original mission styles in NiD rather than add useless platforming levels.

Now why the hell would I want to do that on a 12 inch screen tv?!And this means the FMV is going to be so detailed you'll be able to count every individual eyelash on that purple guy (aswell as grab his even-more-smoother-than-before ass!). XD
For me, when games get too detailed like they are on the PS3 and 360, then I tend to hate it. I want it to look like a game and not remind me of the real world. Especially a game like NiGHTS. But thats just my opinion. Majority like better graphics. Graphics don't make the game though. I was just fine with what was on the Wii.
All I ask is for a better game but somehow I doubt thats going to happen. I really hope that this is not really happening and that there is not another game. Call me crazy, but I think if they just pull something out of their ass and don't try hard enough then its not going to promote NiGHTS, just make it look worse. That and I don't think the NiGHTS gameplay appeals to enough people anymore like it did back in the day when NiGHTS first came out. Or something.....I don't know. I just doubt it will do well.
But maybe I am being too pessimistic about this. Maybe it will be better on the 360 or PS3 due to the type of people that have them. I would not know. I know very little about either of those systems.

Back on topic though.
I like good, shiny graphics... I'd like a shiny NiGHTS. As long as it's not... too-too shiny. Like, Half-Life 2's PS3 graphics... I just love 'em to death; they look so real. NiGHTS (as in the game; NOT THE CHARACTER) looking like that would be awesome.
Unless they do something like have a whole entire model sheet for his HORNS or something, and all its movements. Being too graceful has its turn-offs. I'd be mixed with good-graphics NiGHTS, honestly.
... Honestly, yeah. This is either PS2 NiGHTS, or basically they're turning NiGHTS into Sonic.
If it's the 2nd, I'm sticking to playing SEGA games from 2002 and below.

And about the eyelash thing I don't get why they had to grow so much. I don't mean to sound like a bastard but in NiD they were so much cooler as they weren't a huge defining characteristics. JoD has them HUGE and just out there lol. Also like NNRO7 I hope that they are simply talking about the PS2 remake which really failed in Japan as far as I'm concerned.

Same mate. Wasn't aware how shiny the graphics were until I test drived it.Well Yami I only got a PS3 because I wanted free online, reliability, a controller I'm perfectly comfortable with, MGS4, Gran Turismo, GTA4 and some other games. Graphics can look very good but I could care less. I just want NiGHTS to be on a system I can actually play this time instead of one that is impossible to find. I thought I could have JoD and then get the Wii a little later. That was in December. Now it's March 31st and the Wiis are still hard to find. I could care less about the Wii. I'll wait until 2010 or later to get it. I wish NiGHTS was available to every system though regardless of how pretty the graphics.
I really wanted it for MGS4, and... one or two other games I can't recall >>. I honestly wanted the Wii more.
Oh, and, for those considering the PS3... I use it more than the Wii. Both good systems, though. But, I use PS3 moar. I have more games I like to play for it.

Because i DON'T HAVE ANY OF THOSE CONSOLES ANYWAY. XD
But seriously, if this is genuine and Sega ARE Turning NiGHTS itno a sodding Cash-Cow, then it isn't entirely they're fault. Im sure by now most people would know that pretty much after Hero's most Sonic games sucked- If your going to blame anyone, then blame Sammy for buying Sega. I think it was not long after Sonic Heros came out that Sammy bought Sega, and pretty much now has control ove rwhat get's pumped out of Sega. Or, at least, in the Sonic Team department. And I know Sammy particuly well- They turn most thing's they can get their grubby little hands on. In fact about the only Positive thing i can think of comming from the company was a little arcade shooter named Zombie Raid- That's about it.
For now, considering it IS april fools day, im going to remain skeptical. If this does indeed turn out to be real... Honestly, im not sure weather to feel it's a good thing, or a bad thing. Some series' DO Benefit from more games (At one time, Sonic DID count, but now it's just gotten silly.)but im going to take a gamble and say NiGHTS Probebly Isn't one of those Series that would fare well with more titles. I could be very, very wrong, though... I'll just have to use my famous Backup Phrase- We'll just have to wait and see.

I'd like to keep seeing NiGHTS on Nintendo systems, since I'm not getting an Xbox 360 just to play NiGHTS. I'd also say NiGHTS would look great on the DS, in a follow the stylus kinda gameplay, maybe. Just hope its good and Jackle would be in there, but I doubt that. Hopefully they make ALL the cutscenes great unlike in JoD and Owl is removed. Omochao was the best out of all of them. Cute, throwable, and you only have to touch him to get hints. He also is easy to see so you can avoid him. Unlike Owl, who pops up outta nowhere. Anyways, hopefully it will have a good title and it will have good gameplay. And you have to get 20 blue chips instead of chasing a stupid bird. And My Dream would be more like the Chao garden (maybe you can use NiGHTS to pick them up?) and maybe being able to play as Reala or Jackle.
And for being on the Wii, it is the most popular system... and the cheapest. Can't get an Xbox 360.

I guess for most people, the PS3 is great. But due to circumsances, its not good for me.Well Yami I only got a PS3 because I wanted free online, reliability, a controller I'm perfectly comfortable with, MGS4, Gran Turismo, GTA4 and some other games. Reliability? Thats not the word that comes to mind when I think of Playstation systems anymore. I still need to save up money to buy a PS2 slim, since my old PS2 is going to kick the bucket soon. (What do you mean you can't read Okage?! Its brand freaking new! Oh NOW you want to read it! Damn it! I am surprized you still work. You were made in what? 2004?!) The PS3 isn't even backwards compatible anymore and I tend to hear about the Xbox 360 being more reliable than the PS3. (I kinda want an Xbox 360 one day. Kind of....) I don't like any of those games you listed nor most games on the PS3 right now. I like RPG's, puzzle games, platformers, and things that just don't have a lot of detail in violence. I hate FPS and sports games. (Yes I know the playstation is known for RPG's, but I am kinda on a PS3 mutiny right now. Its too expensive and does not seem worth it.) Online gameplay is pointless for me since I live in a dorm and I am lucky to get online gameplay for 5 min...if that!
That is true though. It does stink for a game to come out on a system that is STILL hard to find. Lots of people that don't even play games much go out and buy the darn thing. :/ I got extremely lucky to have gotten mine in June of last year. It would only be fair for it to come out on a system so that others can have a chance to play. But Multi-platform would be the best.
One can only hope this is the PS2 thing....like it has been said, there was talk in the past about a PS3 and 360 version. I just find it hard to believe they would do something like that if sales of JOD was not that great. I know sales for Sonic are not always that great either, but he is the cash cow. So its an exception.

The PS3 is still B/C but you would have to get the 80GB. The 40GB is just an alternative if you don't have enough money. The 360 is famous for it's RROD which may still be a big hardware problem that often killed 360s but I hear that problem is dying out now. I've had my slim since 2004 as well and I have often played it nonstop for several hours at times and it still works like a charm. I've even modded it and it still works. The PS3 has rare cases of ever breaking down. My PS1 is also still alive and working perfectly. I can't name many platformers or RPGs except for LittleBigPlanet, Final Fantasy XIII's, Folklore, Ratchet & Clank ToD, and Monster Hunter 3.I guess for most people, the PS3 is great. But due to circumsances, its not good for me.

But anyway you have made a good point. SEGA would probably lose more money if they risk creating another NiGHTS game that most of the world could care less about. SEGA should work harder on bringing it's reputation in the video game industry back up to positive standards before they try to do anything else "ground-breaking" which often results in them getting a huge FAIL slapped on their logo. In this day and age a game like NiGHTS is often left in the darkness because it's gameplay doesn't capture many people's attention like it would have back in the mid-90's. It's either that or the overall appeal of JoD didn't make people care because of it's bright and cheery atmosphere in videos and then the game case was really "pretty" so that could put off a lot of males which are the main people that play games I believe(I'm just guessing from what I've seen).

Thats a lot of money though. I would never spend that kind of money on a system. I will save that kind of money for a computer. This one's fan is messed up and it makes an annoying whirring noise. But this being a laptop, means I need to replace the processor and other sh!t thats over $400. I think I will just buy a replacment when I get the chance. The screen side with the off colors is turning pink and green now.The PS3 is still B/C but you would have to get the 80GB. The 40GB is just an alternative if you don't have enough money. I guess by now, both the 360 and PS3 break down less but I have a feeling the PS3 won't stand the test of time. PS1 was a tank and works a hell of a lot better than my PS2. Its a good thing I keep most of my dics in great condition, because the stupid thing wouldn't be able to read it otherwise. I have a fat one, just so you know. And evertime I put Sega Superstars in there it sounds like something is in there eating my disc. Buying used PS2 games is a no no now.
Lack of games that interest me is all the more reason not to get a PS3 or at least not yet. There are actually several XBox 360 games I would rather have. Ok...I'm rambling now.
Yes, Sega needs to do something that doesn't keep killing their reputation. Another reason JOD did not do well could be because of Sega's rep and NiGHTS rep. Now, true, the pretty look can turn a lot of the typical gamer guys off. But if NiGHTS was well known enough about it's gameplay and Sega had a more solid reputation, then others would have considered giving it more of a chance. There are lots of cute pretty games that sell well. But they are usually really really GOOD games. JOD didn't quite make the cut there. It was good, but not good enough. So I don't think it was so much the pretty as it was the gameplay. The pretty aspect would have only turned off the buyers who usually only like Mature or Teen rated games. I guess...not sure about that. I am not that kind of gamer so I don't know. Pretty things stand out for me.
They would also need to do a better job advertising next time!

Yes definitely. They need to advertise games a whole lot more. It's weird that when I was a kid I used to see video game adverts all the time but now I barely see them anymore. I only see the occasional ad every now and then during prime time hours but that's very rare. Nintendo seems to be the only company that is advertising to all hell and I love it. I just wish their commercials still had that corny humor but that's just my 90's side talking.Yes, Sega needs to do something that doesn't keep killing their reputation. Basically I'm saying that if there is a NiGHTS 3 anytime soon, they're doing it just for the franchise and not because they're really interested in making a veritable sequel.

It would be a good idea. Build on an engine you already (maybe) know how to use.
Still, I think that the NiGHTS series is done for now, considering the performance of the Wii game in the market.

Ok, coming from an avid Nintendo gamer (in other words, I bought Zack and Wiki so there =P) the last thing I want is for Nights to get a game for the XBOX360 and/or PS3. Nintendo fans, myself included, did a bit of research that might stun a couple of people: Sega games sold more on Nintendo consoles. Super Monkey Ball has a fan base here (and no, we did not like Monkey Ball Adventure. >/) and while Sonic Heroes wasn't AS good as people hoped, it sold more copies on the Gamecube.
A lot of Nintendo fans who missed NiGHTS in '96 really wanted to like Journey of Dreams, but Sega Studios USA's rep really killed the chances of NiGHTS return. Also, am I the only one who thinks JoD's box art is fruity as hell? NiGHTS Into Dreams had a far better disc cover, for all three regions.
Damn it, they are as sexy as the NiGHTS storybook. Does that make me a pedophille when I think a children's book is sexy?
Well damn...
I thought I was going to put in a serious two cents, and all I did was try to be funny. What is wrong with me?!

But on an off note if they release another arcadia game I am stoked.

Apparently the list was removed. SEGA always does that when it doesn't want something online.
Therefore confirmed methinks.
But still, lets wait to see what we're actualy getting here.

- One big lesson to Sega: DO NOT RUSH SONIC TEAM! You were so anxious to push JoD out at Christmas for what? Do you think Wii owners are going to forego Super Mario Galaxy for a Sega game they barely heard of? Let Sonic Team do their job, release the game when it's FINISHED, and then let it roll when the clamor over Nintendo's IPs is in remission, so to speak. You see now that it was a bad idea, so for NiGHTS 3 let them take their time and make the game they intend to make, it'll pay off. Literally.
AMEN TO THAT
I absolutely hate it when they put rush jobs on stuff.
As Miyamoto once said, "A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."
And NiGHTS deserves good games. We don't need him whored out desperately like Sonic.
So please. Delay the game if needed.
We waited 11 years for a sequel, so we can certainly wait a few extra months for you to fine tune and debug a new installment...

Yeah like they removed my video for Sonic Unleashed because it was supposedly infringing on their copyrights. It was just a trailer lolhere's an update for you all.

Considering what we saw from Sonic Unleashed, what if they used the Sonic Unleashed engine to make the new NiGHTS game on PS3? The footage shows very NiGHTS-ish transitions from sidescrolling to behind the back, and it may be that the rumoured NiGHTS game is indeed running on this engine, or if the engine was developed for the new NiGHTS game and then when it was dropped from the PS3 was adapted to make Unleashed.

I actually have a feeling that the NiGHTS engine was being used for the Sonic Unleashed video we saw. I kept looking at the video and seeing the similarities in camera angles. If the original Sonic Team members that had worked on NiD had created JoD I think it would have done far better than the new people did.

I doubt they use the same engine. That video had so much detail it was either running on the Playstation 3 or XBOX360. If that was on the Wii then I'd say SEGA knows the system better than Nintendo does. When you're talking two radically different consoles, one pretty much last-gen in terms of performance, you can't just direct-port engines between them since they use different command sets and features and blah blah blah. They need to rewrite the engine for the more powerful system to better take advantage of it, otherwise it just kind of ends up looking like an old game with high-res textures. I think it's more likely that the Sonic Unleashed engine will probably be shared with a new NiGHTS game...IF it's released on the XBOX360 or Wii. Which is doubtful, since I just found the article where Iizuka states he'd only make the next installments on Wii....I actually have a feeling that the NiGHTS engine was being used for the Sonic Unleashed video we saw. When we decided to finally make a sequel to NiGHTS, we didn’t know which console it would be for. We only decided later on that we would develop the game for the Wii. But I think it was a good choice – should we make another installment, we would make it for the Wii.
So yeah. Not sure what this all means (plus that new flash game is starting to make me think that SEGA wants to keep the NiGHTS franchise going)...but I hope everything works out for the better this time around.

Just an odd thought that occured. I personaly don't want this to be the case but i just can't figure out why all of a sudden Sega would put an online mini-game on the JoD website when Journey of Dreams has been out for ages now. Usually they put up mini-games on official websites before a game is released, not after it.

That'd be nice, but if they put it on any handheld I'd rather see it on the PSP just because it's got the analog nub built-in and they could do a pretty much direct port from the PS2 re-release....ya know... i just thought of something. JoD has been out for quite some time now, right? So why on earth has the American website now got a recently uploaded NiGHTS mini-game on there? o.o You control NiGHTS by moving the mouse and NiGHTS follows the mouse arrow, right? This sounds very similar to the whole 'stylus' thing that the Nintendo DS has, doesn't it? What if this 'NEW NiGHTS' is exactly that - a DS game?
I certainly wouldn't mind it...I got a DS too, but if it were on the DS I wouldn't want to think of how they'd integrate both screens into it...it doesn't seem like it'd work very well. Either you control NiGHTS on the bottom screen so the stylus occludes your view, or you control NiGHTS on the top screen using a strange input method on the lower. Also, given the DS's graphical prowess, which is pretty much on-par with a Saturn to begin with, I'd still rather have a port of the original than another JoD...

Something like a DS version of the NiD or JoD levels, and only that--no storyline, just levels.

Maybe they're trying vainfully to advertise it a little better; give a small taste of what the gameplay could be like? ..... *smacks self for that sugguestion* I'm certainly finding it a bit fun myself. *coughthatandI'minsecondonthereatthemomentcough* ..... *feels so lame for being proud of that* XDDDJoD has been out for quite some time now, right? So why on earth has the American website now got a recently uploaded NiGHTS mini-game on there? o.o You control NiGHTS by moving the mouse and NiGHTS follows the mouse arrow, right?
Anyway, back on topic; perhaps, if it is a DS game they're doing something for, perhaps it's a DS version of JoD. After all, that is one of Helen's levels in the background (I forget the name - stfu... XPPPP ).
EDIT: And I am going to be smacked by some invisible thing for stating the very obvious. XPPPPP

Also, I like the topic description (possibly confirmed) I find humor in that as it's like saying "It's true!!!... but it might not be..." sorry, I have an easily tickled funny bone I couldn't help pointing that out.

If you like choppy graphics, but better controls, go with GCN
If you like crappy controls and better graphics, get the xbox
If you like utter crap in both dept's get the ps2 version.
I can go on with more games in this scenario (I look at you Sonic Heroes)
Also look at SAB2 and PSO, at least they wanted a while before releasing it on GCN from the dreamcast.
So No, if NiGHTS had another release PLEASE stay on one console. I'd be happy with Wii (i bought a wii just for NiGHTS actually) but if it comes on another console i'll definitely rent it. If it were DS, i'd at least want stylus control AND d-pad control choice. Stylus cuz itd be a new experience, d-pad cuz itd be nostalgic.

Not all SEGA multiplatform games are bad. Look at Sega Superstars Tennis. The reviewers were pretty harsh but I've played the game or at least the demo and I must say that when I get the money for it I will definitely be getting that game. Also look at SEGA Rally Revo. It was pretty well received. Not all SEGA games are taken positively but thats a lot like other companies. SEGA just needs to build up it's rep and then all the gamers that once loved the company will begin to respect the company as they once did. It wouldn't spell instant death. More like a hit or miss. I'm sure that if they can impress us with a video of them finally getting Sonic right they surely can get NiGHTS even better this time... well maybe who the hell knows lolIf there was a multiplatform released, NiGHTS will sign his death wish. I've never found a multiplatform release to be good from sega, cuz it's all porting and emulating from one program. Example: Shadow the hedgehog

You could use the L button for spin dashing, so the controls would be perfectly represented. Also, the design of the game with its level design and such is already quite suited for the pick-up-and-play nature of handheld games. I would call it a perfect fit for DS.
Also, please not on the PSP, Sega. I loathe the analog nub. I have big fingers, and the positioning of the nub below the d-pad makes no sense. If you are making a console primarily for 3D games, then put the analog stick front and center like the GC controller, and put the little-used d-pad below the analog stick.
