I won't have the game for a while so can someone tell me if it's at all possible to beat the levels as the children alone or is that just certain missions? I know in NiD you COULD walk around as the children and complete the level alone but in JOD it looks impossible... is this true or...?

there are a few missions where you ply only as the kids but most of them you actually start as NiGHTS. the chase missions you start as the kids but have to finish as NiGHTS. there are several different types of levels in this one.

I tried once during a chase mission, but was put off by how the level seemed too big for for the children. If they had've scaled down the levels to better match the size of the charachters, but everthing seems too big for the children to use, IMO. Your mileage may vary.
Also, the time egg has been replaced. there's a timer in the bottom right corner of the screen. When this is up, white things appear and try to jump on you. if/when three grab you, it's night over.

yah pretty much impossible for all missions except the kid specific ones... most you start out dualized with NiGHTS and if you run out of time you just wake up instead of seperating. on the chase missions you have to catch the birds... but they start out on top of their respective cages and you can't reach them without going through NiGHTS which will automatically dualize.
so yah, you can explore on foot all you want in the chase missions, that is untill the awakers come for you after about 5 min I think...

In one level I actually managed to run away from the Awakers for about three minutes, it was so cool. I managed to just keep running. But eventually they ganged up on me....

I keep misreading this as 'exploding with the kids'.
Not locking this for the fact there's still stuff that could potentialy be discussed about how much we all just LOVE the on foot sections.
You know, i actually do like the onfoot sections but that's because I'm weird. I just wish they'd made more to find with the kids and i hate the timer

I like running around as the kids too..... I have a strange hobby of breeding 'wild' Pians instead of in Mydream. This is a lot easier when you don't accidentally paraloop them. Except, it's almost impossible to find Blue Chips as a kid...
I also love running around just to look at the gorgeous scenery. Say what you want, but when it comes to the level design JoD does it RIGHT.
I frigging hate those Awakers for that reason. I wanna see more prettyful things, damnnit! STOP RUINING MY FUN!
EDIT: LOL exploding. OWL DID IT!

There are only two things I hate about running around as the kids in this game. It's that you can't do frontflips and that when the Awakers come for you, they come for you with a vengeance. You can run from them all you want but your gonna get jumped eventually. Wizeman new what he was doing when he fired the useless egg clock.

"Dr. StrangeNiGHTS, or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Owl"I keep misreading this as 'exploding with the kids'.
The awkers make the Alarm Egg look like a kitten. Those things have an mission and they WILL AWAKEN YOU, OR ELSE!

I loved explod - er, exploring. I would just leave NiGHTS and wander around until those Awakers were going to gang uo on me. Nooooo, of course I don't have any grudges with Helen's voice-acting as she falls into oblivion. What makes you say that?
...
A Nightopian made me do it. ;_; He bribed me a Reala doll...which I never got. T_T Traitor.
But seriously, I wish there was more to do on foot. That was pretty fun.

I like exploring, in concept.. but in JoD it definitely coulda been much better if they kept it more in line with NiD; bouncing jumps, the ability to cover the entire level (perhaps another victim of deadlines). I still don't really like throwing chips. Sure, they could be used for something more than their original purpose, and it's good if the kids have some offensive ability, but it just didn't feel right. There are many other possibilities to explore. I still kinda like my 'Ideya Persona' idea.

I loved exploring as the kids and I also liked the on foot missions as well
The only thing I didn't like was the fact that you couldn't really explore the levels, only the small portion were the children spawn and merge with NiGHTS . Seriously if the whole level was open up think about how much more fun that would have been. Dreamdrops could have been hidden in much more interesting places, just saying.

Finding dreamdrops was also tough sometimes too, because the awakers would show up before you even reached the dreamdrop. (Happened to me in Lost Park, I remember. But maybe I'm directionally challenged. ) Didn't give you much time to always roam about, that's for sure.
