I don't really mind the voice. So NiGHTS is to sound feminine then will Reala sound very masculine?

But yeah, there has been NiGHTSXReala hentai on the net as well, but its really really hard to find due to the fact that only close friends are seeing it. People who draw those pictures actually care about minors seeing it and make sure they don't. Which is a good thing and a very rare thing. Shows you how treasured NiGHTS is to fans.

However it is possible that with the JOD we may be seeing a lot more popping up on the net. Question is will it be yaoi or not with NiGHTS new voice and all. Only time will tell...

I did what some others have done and looked at a picture of JOD NiGHTS while listening to the voice. I get mixed feelings about it. The new outfit kinda put some more masculinity into NiGHTS but of course the voice doesn't. So it does help balance things out a little. Or mabye make people think NiGHTS is a cross dresser. In fact my boyfriend now says he thinks of Jessie from Team Rocket now when he sees NiGHTS because she cross dressed a lot. >.< Oh well.

I think it's a tad bit more, well, easier to imagine. I don't really think that a man could do much better than the current one we have, so, >_>. I think there's only a few women that could do it better, as well. As far as I'm concerned, SEGA f*!*ing nailed it XDD; . Time that SEGA start trying to show up for themselves...

Imma thinking everyone needs a bit of time to think things out, just like what happen when we learned NiGHTS had a brand new suit. I'm positive everyone will be happy with her voice by this time September. XD; . Either way, though, everyone has a right to their opinion, but I think there will always be a small fraction of fans that hate it, no matter what happens. I know I'm not gonna be happy if they decide to change NiGHTS to a male voice, because, well, NiGHTS probably has a more of a high-pitch voice that only a female could hit, imo.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I've mentioned on this site before that my sister thought NiGHTS was a crossdresser. That was before she knew about JoD, I might add.

Funny. In Starfox 64, Slippy Toad has a female voice and it got me thinking the character was a female. When I got a chance to read the manual, I found out that Slippy was a male. WTF!? So for now, I guess that just because NiGHTS has a female voice doesn't mean the character has a specific gender.

The funny thing is, why bother dealing with genders at all? I mean, NiGHTS is a dream-demon, and does a dream-demon need a gender?

OR.... maybe to settle this whole, we make a whole new gender just for characters like NiGHTS. Either way, what matters is how it all plays.

But, yeah. That last line there is 100% correct. It's not about what gender he'll fall under but it's how well the voice acting of NiGHTS portrays him as being an androgynous character. Nicely said.

But anyways, in terms of NiGHTS' gender. It's true, Sega are trying to keep it adrogynous. They have said so themselves in many interviews and comments about our lovable Purple guy.
I see NiGHTS as both, though i'm used to saying 'he'. He has aspects of both a male and female and it's all good in my eyes. Yup!

I guess its all in the eyes of the beholder what gender NiGHTS is, although I myself find that I constantly switch NiGHTS from a girl to a guy.

I've always thought of NiGHTS as female. So I guess im happy...Or something. But yeah, NiGHTS is supposed to be gender neutral and I though that they would do the dual-voice thing.

After listening to the clip of NiGHTS' voice, and constantly replaying it in my head while looking at a picture of NiGHTS, I think the voice fits perfectly. I never really thought of NiGHTS as any particular gender, at least not in recent years, so I'm happy SEGA is keeping NiGHTS androgynous. I do think their making NiGHTS more feminine to counter the more masculine Reala. They are opposites, so it makes sense to me.

A voice is so powerful when developing a character... I know new fans playing the game for the first time are definitely going to associate NiGHTS with the female gender, whether Sega says NiGHTS is genderless or not. I think most of us grew up understanding NiGHTS to be androgynous and not leaning toward one gender more than the other, but it was easier to do that when he hardly had a voice in the game and it should be fairly easy for us to continue seeing NiGHTS that way. But less admit to it now, there are going to be people who can't accept NiGHTS as being anything but female if only because of the voice.

That being said, I'd rather this more feminine spin on NiGHTS be taken this time than a masculine one. (If only because I want to see more female leads in action/adventure games lol) It's just that, most of us seem to say "he" when referring to NiGHTS and even those horrid archie comics seemed to give NiGHTS a more masculine tilt. Maybe with JOD taking a more feminine turn, it will even things out a little and an equal number of fans will be using 'she' pronouns as those using 'he' when referring to our purple hero. XD

And of course there will be those who don't agree with me that JOD is taking a more feminine tilt than past productions and the fandom in general... but my opinion is such.

All in all I could really care less who thinks what about NiGHTS's gender nor what pronouns they choose to use, whatever makes them happy I say. Androgynous NiGHTS makes me happy, and he'll always be that way to me. *sugarfluff*

Most of the time when a female VA is used to do a male character it's because they can potray a much childish tone for young adolescents. Bart still sounds like a boy in the series. IMO NiGHTS sounds like a 20 year old woman. Their's not enough androgynous in that voice.

Well, that's just a matter of opinion.

I do like her voice, but I know a good amount of fans that don't. It's still a shock to lots of people that NiGHTS is portrayed as female...

I do agree with Kichi that NiGHTS sounds more female than male but it's all good, in my opinion.

One thing you can do is just play the clip a few times to listen to the voice then watch the FMV footage of NiGHTS landing on top of the Clock Tower. Now, put that voice to that FMV of NiGHTS and you can see how it could work really well if you listen to it with that in mind. I find it works really well, and i hated the voice when i first heard it. Took me 5 minutes to get over it, though lol XD

But, yeah. NiGHTS as being more female...may look that way but it's down to the eyes of the beholder. And to me, that purple guy will always be androgynous. Dude gets the best of both worlds, lol. Lucky asshole, in my opinion. XP

It was surprising for me at first that I heard NiGHTS sound like that. But I guess I might as well adjust.

I have always seen NiGHTS as a guy, and that voice put me into a complete shock! But there are other male anime characters that look feminine or have a female voice actress example:

Yuki Sohma (from Fruits Basket)
Shun ( from Here is Greenwood)
Naruto, Haku, and Orochimaru (from Naruto)

Beside usually in anime and video games a mature female character usually has big/ huge breast! Yet NiGHTS looks masculine. and a male character can have a female voice actress! ^_^

But anyway, I still see NiGHTS as a guy, and I guess I can get use to the voice! ^_^

It doesn't matter, Submas. That 5 second sequence pwns EVERYONE'S face. That small fmv alone puts the entire Halo 3 game to shame. (not really...I haven't played it, for I don't have an X-Box 360, but...anyway...it still pwns your face)

I understand what you mean Submas13, but it is very possible for a male to act a little feminine! ^_^ And Beside I also think NiGHTS pwns everyones face! ^_^

The biggest issue I had at first was that NiGHTS had a voice at all. ^^;; I wasn't against voice acting, it was just weird for me. You see, because he rarely uttered a sound in the original game, I figured that perhaps he had another way of communicating rather than vocally. I settled for broadband empathy, which my brain translated as the ability to pick up the emotions of others and transmit one's own emotions, and through those convey a meaning. I had a dream about it once; it actually works somehow. Oo()

In any case, the voice is fine once you get used to it, it just kinda came as a shock despite knowing ahead of time there would be VAs. XD

And I agree with what everyone's put up so far, especially the points on why it's a good thing NiGHTS is being given a more feminine voice. I think it fits his personality better than a more masculine voice would have. Even if it DOES lean more toward female than some of us would like, it still allows him to remain androgynous and still keep his unique personality without our petty gender stereotypes getting in his way.
