First of all, I would like to take the time to congratulate DexLaCabra for being made chief around here. Having been around the forum since he joined, I know for a fact that everything that DiGi and TRiPPY have said about him is true. I have full faith that he will do a fantastic job keeping things alive around here.

What I would like to ask from here though is where do we go now? It's been some time since I heard any real NiGHTS news, so I'm curious as to what kinds of things Dex and the rest of you as well have to keep this place jumping and jiving again. I know it's been some time since I came here on a regular basis, but I'd like that to change.

Oh man it has been awhile hasn't it?? Congrats to Dex to becoming head dreamer! I know he'll do amazing things with this site~

As for me, I'm currently working on a brand new NiGHTS crossover cosplay (and trying to con other peeps to join me). Once I start working on it, I'll be sure to share pictures and updates here for everyone.

Personally, I've always thought it would be cool to have just one big NiD.com scrapbook where anyone who wants to contributes some kind of art that gets put into a big zip folder for people to download. No one would see anyone else's work until they downloaded the folder. People could contribute fan art, fan music, remixes, cosplay photos, fanfiction, poetry, videos, etc. Anyone could contribute.

Thank you very much for the support guys, it means a lot! :) Alas since there doesn't seem to be any NiGHTS related news in the pipeline (that I know of, I only just got the job so no-one tells me anything yet lol) the community will have to supply its own entertainment! Fan projects have always been a big beloved part of us and they kept us going in the years between NiD and Job, that and the wonderful cameos in other SEGA games. The lesson was learnt not to make anything that alienates people not clued in on, and we want to avoid elitists haha, this place is supposed to be a kind and friendly community :P

As far as my job is concerned, I'll be rebuilding all the broken pages of the website so all the old content will be returned alongside new things we haven't seen yet! I also intend to get some competitions on the go, and have been thinking of a few things already that we can have as prizes! Expensive things that hurt my wallet haha :P

Well whatever you end up wanting to do, I'll support you. Hopefully you can have all the site material back up and running soon. We desperately need some form of incentive to get people to come back to the forums. With so many things like FB groups, Tumblr, Twitter, etc. the idea of a forum is a bit out of date unfortunately. However, this is the place where so many wonderful things started and I would hate to see it just lost to the wind. Granted, us members should give our own ideas for things to do, but Dex you WILL need to have a strong hand in deciding what kind of direction we take and what we do. People can't always decide things for themselves. You will need to provide them something to do or talk about when they come here. I'll help you however I can, but a clear solid plan is needed. I suggest we come up with something really big to draw people back in.

Same here, I may not have many services to offer, but I'd be glad to help get the .com back on the map

Thanks dudes, I've never done anything like this before so i'll need all the help I can muster :B You're right though Musashi, a rallying of the fans is in order to draw everyone back, and I can think of a few things! Come next Monday, I'll be getting into gear and sorting things out! I'm away from tomorrow until around Sunday as I'm travelling to see Pearl Jam in concert, grunge connoisseur that I am :P

An idea I've been toying with a lot lately is the concept of some form of store where fans can buy merchandise from the website, such as T-shirts, posters, etc. I'm not sure of the legal implications just yet, this is all conjecture, but it'd be cool if such a store did exist so you could buy a t-shirt with your favourite nightmaren on it, and any and all profits would go directly to prizes for competitions and giveaways! Again I'm just spitballing here, but since official NiGHTS merch is so rare it'd be nice for people to be able to their hands on stuff that is at least from the go-to website for the franchise! What do you guys think, would any of you be interested in that sort of thing? (I just paraphrased Owl without meaning it lol)

https://www.facebook...acabrasdrawings Examples of my artwork can be found here, just to give you an idea as to what posters by me would look like, though if people would be having to purchase these figurative posters obviously I'd put twice as much effort in haha

I can't say for sure what I think about the store variable (lots of stuff to consider!)

I'm really excited about getting some pages back up (The world needs to see the horror that is the NiGHTS archie comics)

In terms of what I can offer, I know of a LOT of NiGHTS blogs in the tumblrsphere, as we get back up to date with scans and whatnot, some of it could be reposted to a sort of official .com tumblr and this will definitely catch the attention of the newer side of the fandom (I'd be more then happy to do this, if you guys think it a useful idea)

I'm really excited to help bring the .com back to life, and really hope I can help play a part in that comeback

A store is a nice idea, but we're going to need some form of capital before we attempt to get something like that off the ground. Plus, the tax aspect alone is one major thing that would concern me especially since we all live across the ocean from one another. Also, since NiD is copyrighted and trademarked I'm not sure how well that would go over with Sega. However, if we can find a way to get that all squared away, I'm more than down for that. It would be cool to have our own brand of NiD merch.

The idea of a fan store is pretty neat; I know there are many sites out there that do sell prints of fanart for profit in conjunction with the artists (speaking from experience), and I'm always wondering how kosher it all is.. I suppose to be on the safe side we'd do things that don't portray any of the actual characters, so that'd limit things to fanmaren or other sly references to the games. Tough to say.. Sega really does undersell NiGHTS when it comes to official merch.

Even just slyly referencing things can get hairy. I think if we are to proceed with this any further we need to investigate the EXACT laws regarding this situation. We also need to find out the exact protections Sega has put over NiGHTS and anything NiGHTS related. I don't want any of us being punished just because we are trying to spread the love of NiGHTS.

Something I was always bad at with Mathematics at school was not showing my working to my conclusion, apparently I'm still doing it! :P I was thinking of ways to show that the website is still very much active, so I started thinking of things to do for regular competitions and stuff, and because NiGHTS merch is not only rare, but expensive I decided I'M going to have to make some merch aswell, So I can afford to do them far more frequently! I thought of doing each competition focusing on a specific maren, so for example if we had a Gillwing question for people to do, and all the prizes were Gillwing related, such as a t-shirt of him, a poster, even some form of jewellery though I'm not sure how I'd do that just yet lol. This would all be given away for free, so there should be no legal issues since it's no different to drawing a picture and giving it away to someone!

Then I started thinking about the people that didn't win any competitions, and how it was a bit of a shame how they weren't getting anything and THAT'S where the idea of a store came from, somewhere they could get the stuff, just not for free! I'm going to do some snooping about since websites like Teefury and Qwertee get away with using franchises they don't own so there must be some sort of grey area here!

I feel a bit hypocritical posting in a topic discussing how to bring in more members/members back, seeing as how I've just starting visiting again after a nearly 2 year hiatus. :P

I'm not too sure how I feel about the store. Like pretty much everyone's said so far, copyright stuff can get a little sticky... However, I know some fan sites that sell merch that is related, but not technically violating any copyrights. For instance, I'm a pretty big Green Day fan, and this fansite has merch that contains vague song lyrics and various stuff like that. It's very creative and pretty cool, and best of all, it doesn't violate anything. So we'd just need to think of things like that. Maybe leaning towards just Ideya-themed or dream-themed stuff, since you can't copyright dreams or a set of 5 colors! Mwahaha!

Also, maybe for competitions, you could make it so you have to put your entries in via the forum. Then we could just promote promote promote the competitions (and the forums adjacently)! I've noticed there's a lot of NiGHTS-themed Tumblrs, so even just spreading it that way could go far.
