My main NiD game is named after someone I have a crush on and enjoy dreaming about, and won't name in case he googles it and finds out :)

Does it have any bearing what you name your game - does it affect the A-life or randomly generate parts of the scenery or anything? Is there any practical value to having more than one name, other than for multiple people using the same system to keep track of their scores? I have a few due to emulation, randomly losing saves etc.

I'm boring so I just use my first name whenever I make a new save file for anything. I'm not sure if NiGHTS has anything special depending on what you name your file. As a matter of fact, the only series I've known there to be privileges to picking a certain name is The Legend of Zelda. I may try certain names though if I were to make another NiGHTS save file. Maybe something like Naka, Oshima, or just plain old NiGHTS.

I use my first name (Charles). I doubt there's any 'secret' name that unlocks hidden things. I imagine if that was there, someone at Sega would have leaked this info by now. I'm also pretty sure that the only reason for multiple names is for multiple people to keep separate records.

When it comes to naming conventions in games, I prefer to use defaults. So my Final Fantasy characters all have the names everyone calls them by. If I have to give a character/save-slot a name, it's usually Charles. And for old RPGs like Dragon Warrior, when you have to give the character a name AND are limited to 4-characters, I use CHAZ. This makes Phantasy Star IV pretty cool for me, because it gives me an extra connection to the character whose default name is Chaz?

I've always used my initials (MNS).. though right now my Saturn's battery is caput, so I'll just type any random gibberish quick to pass to the Dream Gate.

funny story

i actually named mine ( What the fuc* )
FOR A REASON, originally i let it be NiGHTS which is the default save name, why change it.
but after i beat the game, and saved, then restarted the game. the file was GONE. self deleted due to lack of battery life.
so out of frustration, i put the letters WTF!? for the name and pressed start then beat it again, from then on. it actually saved.

well DAMN!!! LMAO
now im stuck with a retarded file name that was an accident cuz my saturn's a jerk lol

I usually use my first name for everything, and if the virtual keyboard doesn't automatically shift to the lowercase letters, I often just have it all uppercase 'cause I'm lazy  Though for NiGHTS I think I bothered to shift cases. In Zelda games, I just type in Link, because otherwise when the people talk to me, it's too weird. I mean, I can't have him be called what's obviously a girl name, and why would I want to chuck in a random boy name that doesn't belong to me?

I'm lazy; mine's NiGHTS. Except JoD, which is Nocturne for online purposes (not enough room for the superflous "o"! Curse you, Sega!). I go by default names, too, so all of my Zelda save files are Link. It's just weird for me not hearing him called that. In all other games, I use my real name or my initials, though sometimes I use a nickname (mainly in Pokemon, I don't know why).

I alternate between NiGHTS and Deadpool. It helps that my Saturn's battery-based memory is kaput. Maybe I should get that Action Replay thing that backs up saves. Either way, I have to pick one of the two each time I turn on the game.

Just my name (Jess). Boring, I know. But before my battery died and I had to start over, I'm pretty sure I just used "NiGHTS".

You can get a type of watch battery to fix that at most electronics stores. :D
