Yeah... I'm wondering why people here haven't gone utterly bonkers over this, as indicated by the lack of threads when I used the Search function, especially considering the no-fee, region-free online gameplay (I'm confused as to how that's going to work).

But anywhoos, yes, complimentary link to the site. Spazzflail with glee or moan with disappointment as you wish, although I wonder why you would since it says right on the website that it's the spiritual successor to Phantasy Star Online (aside from that it's on the DS, though I personally have no objection to that).

EDIT: Let's just pretend I wasn't an utter moron last night and sleepily assumed that, because there was no topic on the subject, people didn't know, and then remembered it being mentioned in another thread while I was trying to sleep. XDDD *headdesk*

Also, I no has DS, so my lack of objection was not due to owning the system already. XD

I'm low on funds at the moment so I'll have to hold off. (I have enough neglected games to play as it is.)

But I really want to get this. I absolutely loved the original Phantasy Star series and PSO was incredibly awesome. And I've heard nothing but good things about this game.

Oh it also is worth noting that apparently the strategy guide includes an interview hinting at something special for PSO's 10th anniversary. Speculation is that this could mean a re-release of the game for Xbox Live or PSN. This is something I would seriously approve of! (I'm going to have to buy a 360 as soon as I can afford it... I assume even if it's on Xbox Live they won't be bringing back support for the original Xbox version to be played.)

The game is fun, but Nintendo's online service needs to go burn in hell, it completely ruins the online PSO experience.

Yeah, I was kinda wondering how well that worked myself. Does it work that you're all actually fighting the same monster, or does it stream the other players' actions to the linked DSs and have their avatar there fight some monster on your own DS? I can seriously see an instance where most of the party wins and some of the party loses if the latter system's the case, unless they do the damage calculations before they ping the info to the other DSs as well as the monster itself is streaming actions to its clones. ^^;;;

EDIT: Actually, that latter system sounds quite broken, but I still wonder how the DS connection thing works, exactly, especially since it's all free and yet whatever's linking them is still running without any income at all (save gamesales). ^^;;;

ANOTHER EDIT: Also, quick question - how many save files are there? I'd like to have one save file to experiment with and the other as a permanent character, but I guess there's only one savefile and therefore I'd have to own two DSs to pull that off. XD

It's all real time, but you can't talk to strangers at all with the pictochat like feature... its just sucky.. xP, plus over 3/4's of the time I can't even connect. Also, 3 character slots.

Well, that first thing's certainly understandable, considering there're possibly kids playing. Mothers wouldn't like it if their child's chat were flooded with swears (although I wonder how many people of that age group this would appeal to).

Yeah, buggy connections aren't wonderful... *suddenly wonders if house is even wifi capable*

And zomg, yes! ^----^ I'll probably end up using all three, as I like to restart a lot/hop between things/try every class at least once. XD

I'm up to level 15 and will be playing with other friends tomorrow night. Story mode is considerably easier than playing online now, but you still have to do a lot of grinding.

As it is currently Winter it means hibernating in house rather than going out a lot. <br /><br /> I should also mention that growing up playing on SEGa systems it is now my favorite game company in the whole world. The games developed by it always inspire me a lot and remind me of all those games many years ago such as Nights that I have many fond memories of. <br /><br />I also am really creative and tend to do all kinds of art such as drawings, painting and such. However, lately I have focused more on my computing course so have not done much. :)
I got the Japanese version but have not played it in a while as I am stuck in a boss!It would be nice if it is possible to play with different regions. :)

I have it, I've played it and I enjoy it.
I've yet to try online play since I need to set up my access point security to something the DS can recognize.

After Christmas I attempted to use some gift cards to buy this but couldn't find it anywhere. T_T

Now I feel like I might as well just wait for a price drop. Besides I recently got PSU and that should tide me over for a while... Clearly I'm pretty on top of the current games!

Played it on the train to Edinburgh for New Year. Started getting in to it.
Played it a bit more while in Edinburgh. Met the second boss and became unbelievably frustrated. Have not played it since.

I don't know if it's just me but ..where the bloody hell has the 'hospital' or 'medical area' gone? Seriously now.
I've been playing offline and got to the second boss giant squid octopus thing and it keeps flooring me...so naturally i end up back in the town and ...only 1hp. No place to heal at so i have to use my items to heal.
Enter boss fight. Die. Repeat process until items and/or messeta are all gone thus leaving me unable to beat the boss as my health remains at 1hp.

Usually in Phantasy Star games, if you die on field you end up back at a medical centre of some kind. In this you don't and it leaves me puzzled and annoyed.

Yeah, Octo Diablo is a royal pain in the ass. Just remember you have a dodge roll now. What specifically is giving you trouble?

I haven't seen a medical center either but I'm not too annoyed. Dropping some cash for mates is no big deal in my opinion.

Here's how I took care of that arse...
I reccomend bringing a gun with you... it will help allot...
simply dodge the tenticle attacks and attack only after they finished their attack and if another one's not sneaking up behind you...
if they raise high in the air you'll probably need to dodge roll to get out of the way... when he starts sucking in just keep moving don't go for any shots, you should be able to dodge it while your moron npc helpers die
then apply pain to his head...
when me moves to the outer ring switch to handgun/rifle
stay just out of tenticle's reach so he can't grab you with that cheap attack of his...
and shoot just within a handgun's fireing range... try to get the timeing down and you should be able to shoot one full combo after he spits at you... you can hit a few more times but this is just to be safe... now...
When he starts trying to suck you in you should try to run to the corner of the INNER RING, so that the corner is between you and ugly, you should get stuck on that corner so he can't suck you in... now the fun part... charge your handgun/rifle so it uses it's special attack... when he's done sucking run up to him while he recovers, then boom! massive barrage of shots and more than double damage per shot!

Anyhoo, still haven't set up the bloody wifi... still not online...

I've not even got past the dragon yet >_> But I'm leveling up before i progress further. I'm slightly obsessive about leveling up. Doing the first bit over and over again makes me better at the game before running off and getting my ass handed to me at a low level.

When we get the PC repaired and stuff I'm gonna try set up the wifi properly for both the other PC, the 360, the wii and the DS (without having it non secure!)(gah)

I got the game imported shortly after its US release, but haven't yet said my piece on it because of various factors...the first of which is a DS with with a permanently stuck on R Button, makes the game almost impossible to play. I'm looking into a new one...using my sisters DS to steal shots when the urge hits...but won't be posting my friend code until I get my new one since the whole register one card to one console thing- so I can't use my sisters to play it online. (Although, to be honest, on my PS3 more often than the DS lately.)

My thoughts on the game are simple...
It is basically a do-over of PSO in a Western-ish style, utilizing most of its gameplay features, it gives the feeling of PSO back to anyone who was disappointed by PSU. Then for good measure it adds in rolls for more evasive strategy and adds in photon arts, although mostly weapon-specific. I'm not fond of the charging spells to increase their power, but that's really just a personal miff- its not enough to ruin the game...I think.

Loving the return of red items and also loving the fact that everyone gets their own specific pools of items, so no thieverizing. On top of the good additions also has to be that special effect weapons happen with both strong and weak attacks and not their own inaccurate attack, which works better.

Photon Blasts are pretty good too, although somewhat difficult to aim...not as bad as Golla, though. That stag really boiled my brains. XD

Starting to get the urge to play it now, kinda. XD

Yay, discussion and FC swapping!
I got this game on release day over here in the US, November 11, 2009. Since then, I have a lvl 88 HUmar, a lvl 60 HUcast, and a lvl 28 RAcaseal. Ironic enough, I'm also part of a guild with the Phantasy Star Zero forums.

But if anyone wants to add me, feel free to. All I ask is that you tell me you added me. Here's the signature I made showing my FC and nickname.

Got the game myself and being a Phantasy Star noob i was a bit worried I would not like it but so far I'm enjoying it. Yes the second boss was a pain but I got the better of him once i did a bit of leveling up. Not a bad little game I must say.
