Sonic Unleashed Screens
#1

My personal favourite here:
So far there are a ton of promising things in these screens:
1. No regular human characters, only Eggman bots
2. No other characters besides Sonic and Eggman
3. Sweet-looking CG and awesome boss designs
4. Lovely graphics in-game
5. No Shadow
6. No Big
7. No Amy
8. No Chaotix
9. No GUN
10. Sweet character models
If they make the game awesome to play and keep the ten things mentioned above, Sega will have triumphed over their personal demons and brought Sonic back to glory. Fingers crossed! Oh, and Sega, delay the game if you need to. We would only yell for a little bit and then when the game comes out twice as awesome we would love you all the more.

Oh Sonic. Why do you want to be Link so bad? XD
Hm, looks.. interesting. I honestly don't know enough to form a real opinion of it, but I'm trying to choke down my rotten skepticism about Sonic games for this one. I've got my fingers crossed.

A 2.5D sonic game that isn't on the DS or PSP? It's on the modern systems? Sign me the hell up!

This is off the chartz with me. Like 2000/10 on that meter. I was gonna post the vid but hey you beat me to it. Everyone needs to see this. All this info in one day on the Sonic game that may bring my blue homey back. There is now a video on Youtube that appears to be showing off a 2.5D platformer. I think it rates a 7 out of ten on the "Best Thing Since Sliced Bread Meter. (BTSSBM)"
Here is the link. Man, I cannot wait.
I was thinking about NiGHTS as well when the screen changed. I was like "They stole that from NiGHTS" but then I was like "Oh wait same company" lol.You know, the way that the perspective dynamically shifts from on the side to behind the back is incredibly like NiGHTS! I am just so happy that Sega did not use the Adventure formula again. Even if this does not turn out well, at least they tried something new with the franchise.
UPDATE
DUDE I'VE GOT EVEN MORE SCREENSHOTS!!!
Take a look at this link: http://www.gamersyde.com/news_6204_25745_2_en.html

I say we all hold back on the dark thoughts and cynicism until there is something to be cynical about. OK, maybe the were-hog, but the video was divine. Hopefulness tank is at maximum.
Before the video showed its 2.5D-ness, I was thinking, "well, another Sonic 06-style game" but then the video comes, and I almost literally jump for joy. Makes me wonder: do you think that Sonic Team is letting Dimps (Sonic Advance/Rush series dev) do some advisory stuff, or, unthinkably, develop the gameplay while Sonic Team just does the CG? That seems to be generally what they are good at, respectively.

WHY COULDNT THEY MAKE A NiGHTS GAME WITH GRAPHICS LIKE THAT T_T they had 11years fskakes.
Anyhoo, it looks fast and fun, graphics are beautiful...
Lets hope they spend a lot time running it through testing and fix all the stupid glitches that usualy haunt Sonic games before releasing it.

I am just always negative about these things before they come out. Makes me feel better if it ends up crappy and my hopes and dreams were not shot because I never raised them in the first place. So I am not totally impressed. I just have a feeling something will happen here....
So far it does sound pretty good though. But how will the controls be? I know Sonic and The Seceret Rings came a little close to old Sonic roots (more so than most new games recently) but most didn't like the game anyway due to its controls and storyline that still...meh.

Yeah, everybody looks at a brand new sparkly Sonic game and go "oooh, that might be quite nice. I think this will bring Sonic back from the grave that Sega keep digging him into" and then the game releases and it's piss poor. Sonic Next had such an amazing look to it when it first got out on the net for people to see. And what happened there? As time went on Sega ruined what could have potentialy been one of the greatest Sonic games of all time. Sonic and the Secret Rings was either a 'it's ok or you hate' opinion. That wasn't a game that brought Sonic back to his roots either, no matter if the magazine reviews were nice.
I don't get it. I really don't understand what Sega are thinking by doing this Werewolf stuff. It makes Sonic look so bloody cheap and cheesy.
And so it may play as a 2.5D game. This could probably be it's one and only saving feature if that's the case.
Segs Superstars Tennis gave me a lovely 3D view of the GreenHill Zone. It had a really nice vibe to it and i really really miss that type of level feel. Again, for this new game, Sega have thrown Sonic into what appears to be some cheap version of Greece, Egypt and Africa. I wish they would just quit messing about with it all and put Sonic back where he belongs.
I wanted to be optimistic for this game when i first heard about it but i was optimistic for Sonic Next and that failed so much it actualy hurt.
I'll be honest, i'm not looking forward to this because i feel they're going to rape this poor character even more by adding more useless sh!t on to him.
Still, as always, let's wait and see. I would like to be proven wrong because i want nothing more than Sonic to have a really good game out on the market. Sonic Unleashed will not be it, i don't think.

Seriously though, I feel it's always gonna be a Marmite affair with any Sonic game. People are either gonna love it or hate it. The graphics look nice enough to me, but I'm gonna wait until we know more about it before I pass any stronger judgement.
The only thing I am certain of, is that I LOVE the D: face XD
Besides, if this fails, at least Chronicles is looking good.

The graphics look all nice and prettyful.
Sonic better be as fast in the game as he is in that trailer. >_>
If he isn't, there should be an option to make him faster.
Were-Sonic is creepy and shouldn't be in any other game except this one. Not to mention the fact that it reminds me of Jak&Daxter for some odd reason.
I wonder is Metal Sonic'll be in it?
But yeah, I have a feeling it's gonna wind up rushed and unpolished like the last few Sonic games.
Oh well, doesn't hurt to hope for something good does it?

Amen!I'm hopeful about the game but the werewolf thing is like D: Eewlame.

Maybe for once we could get a new Sonic game without any voice acting? Storytelling without dialogue can be quite win.

Personally I don't care about voice acting one way or the other *shrug* And to me, it'd be odd to see Sonic shut his trap after so long with it spouting cheesy catchphrases XD

Also, what do you call a hedgehog with lycanthropy? A werehog? A hedgewolf? Wedgeholf, Herwog, Gimmick, Hegwedwoflog? So confusing.

Looking at the pics I have come up with the perfect term... *drum roll*Also, what do you call a hedgehog with lycanthropy? A werehog? A hedgewolf? Wedgeholf, Herwog, Gimmick, Hegwedwoflog? So confusing.
mole
I mean seriously he doesn't even look like a hedgehog, then again he really never did, he looks like a freak'in MOLE!!!
judging from the graphics, the lighting effects, and the shadowing this looks like its hittin ps3, but knowing sega they will tone it down for 360.

You know, when I think about it, during the prieview pics for Sonic Next gen there were lots of pictures with robots. A lot of those robots were later replaced with Iblis monsters and crap. Just a thought.....

Also, I think that Sega is in its element when it comes to 2D games. They have the talent to make this happen, it just depends on whether they allow it to simmer long enough.
From this point forward, I will not say a single unguarded comment about the negative or positive aspects of the game, until release. That way, I won't be caught off guard whether the game turns out bad or good.

Now, I don't think SEGA will do that again, but something pretty simple occured to me. Let Sonic be the only one who actually has a Story, and let the other characters be unlockable, without their own seperate Story.
(Edit: Took out big cluttered mess, and summarized it.)
Anyway, my basic idea of 'If other characters are going to show up, this may happen' entails:
Full Character Swap: Basically, if other characters show up, what COULD happen is that if they get their own STORY Play-throughs, it may be pretty identical to Sonic's, aside from the fact that you could do different short-cuts. The UPSIDE to the Re-Hash Story Idea is that we would get to see Super Tails/Knuckles/Shadow/Silver/Amy/Cream/Rouge/etc. The DOWNSIDE is that there's no real point in doing it, aside from playing through as your favorite character. ... Unless Sega MAKES you do it to get the extra emblems.
Skin Swap: They will PROBABLY pull a Sonic Rush on us and give you a selection of which character you want to use, right before the level starts. I can't think of any new upside aside from the obvious. The downside is that it's cheaper, and we don't get to see all the pretty Super Forms. Unless they throw us a bone. (And since when has that ever happened? With Sonic, I mean. We've been begging for the return of the Chao Gardens since Heroes came out and didn't show up with it.)

And I still say that if Tails is playable, he should have a 'toolbelt' aspect to him, letting you build stuff. He's an inventor, bring that to play dammit.

Yes, I am an easy mark for the plot gimicks, I am. ^^;;;;

Sonic. Jak and Daxter style. Meaning, Sonic gets captured and tortured horribly for a few years, comes out changed, uses his new uber darkness powers to pwn his enemies and get revenge.
Just a thought. Personally, I think the werewolf thing looks neat.
Of course, this is me we're talking about. The one person in the whole fanbase who absolutely LOVED Shadow the Hedgehog.

you mean the character NOT the game... right?Of course, this is me we're talking about. The one person in the whole fanbase who absolutely LOVED Shadow the Hedgehog.
plot gimmicks are fine (even thou imo this one seems abit used up...) but now picture this you need to play as him in that form... now you move 5mph. have to bat down gun-wielding enemies with your massive arms when its takes you 30 seconds to reach an enemy that you could have (as sonic) used a homing attack on but instead you have to do zig zags to avoid all the shots the enemy throws at you. THIS my friend is why I am worried... of course this is all a theoretical example so I don't wanna be bashed for this comment if you please...I personally like the wendingo-thing, but it's probably for the very reason everyone here hates it; it's a cheap 'ohnoez he be fighting his inner demonz!' plot gimic.

Since when are werewolves slow? Obviously, not as fast as Sonic (though we do not know that yet either) but still pretty nimble. Also, this game may have put the homing attack to rest, judging by its total absence during the trailer. It seems that the only way to take out enemies that we have seen so far is to charge them with the Sonic Rush-style speed boost. Although, if there are longer sections with the behind-the-back view, then the homing attack may become a necessity.
It is, of course, a legitimate concern, and more theories are always better than none. We really know next to nothing about the game at this point, and so theories are most of what we have at this point.
My personal theory about this is that there will be two versions of each stage, one during the day and one at night, that you will traverse in greatly different ways with Sonic's two forms. The werewolf will likely be harder to control, but much more powerful and possibly just as fast. I mean, if you took Sonic (a pretty fast guy) and took away what little caution and rational thinking that he possesses, then what do you get? Another thing they could do is that when you are in the moonlight as the werewolf, you gain power and speed, but when you are in the darkness and out of the moonlight, you lose power.
Just a few ideas from me. No bashing whatsoever.
Just my two cents.

So I'm going to be objective this time. I will judge each component of Sonic Unleashed revealed thus far, but not based on the idealistic "classic Sonic" we keep striving for. If it looks good, then it looks good. I don't except the second coming of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I just want a fully functional Sonic game that's fun to play. From the early gameplay video, it looks like just that. I know Sonic 2K6 looked good in the private E3 2005 trailer, but unlike that, the footage we have seen of Sonic Unleashed appears to be actual gameplay footage. The Sonic '06 trailer we saw was simply a cutscene using in-game graphics. Sonic Unleashed is still in its early stages so that's why it looks so barren, but at least it looks playable enough to warrant a proper gameplay video. That's more than what I could say for the TGS 2005 showing of Sonic 2K6.
Now on to Wolf Sonic. So... how do we know it's a werewolf? It could just be the Sonic equivalent of Dark Jak, but with negative chaos energy instead of dark eco. It's not as if the series never loaned itself to such a concept anyway. I just hope it doesn't screw up the gameplay. And really, if Mario can dress up as a raccoon, I'm sure Sonic can play Halloween for a little bit too.
