This morning I received an email from CatGoneCrazy, one of the top players on the xbla version, and much to my surprise he shattered the world record on Spring Valley! 1,029,980
On the Sega Saturn the highest score I was able to achieve was 896K, so to beat it by 130K is pretty dang impressive!
If you're wondering how it was done it was mainly due to Mare 3 where you can pull off the stunt ribbon glitch and get tons of dreamies. Cat has found a way to perfect it on the xbla!
Now that I've seen the potential scores I've got a huge boost of motivation to play it more often. It's great to see players embrace this game and challenge one another.
So is there anyone else here trying to get to the top of the leaderboards?

My God
This made me check the leaderboard and lost my place in the top 100 by 1,106pts(mine is 299,370). The highest right now is still 832,140. Im hoping to get to at least 490000+ and get in the top 20 eventually I still dont know any tricks like the stunt trick and I havent 2.0 gillwing which is my major problem atm.
Edit: PS3 version

I'm just happy to be below 50's! Now that there's a reason (show off) i get score mania far more than I ever did! What is this ribbon bug thing? Never heard of it?

For a while I was in the top twenty on a fair few levels, top ten on one or two with photos to prove it. I was very (probably disproportionately) proud of that fact. I'm still in the top thirty - fifty on a few levels (you can see me up there as my xbla gamertag is the same as my name on this forum Thoughtcrime82).
I still play regularly, although I must congratulate you guys in the top ten. I was really happy with my score on twin seeds but you guys have smashed it. I will continue to try and get up there.
As others have said, the leaderboard is a massive incentive top keep playing. On the saturn I was less about scores and more about the general wonder of the game and tinkering with the a-life etc. My score hunting has been slightly hindered by the fact you can have a great round getting lots of new records and then find that the boss is Gulpo or Clawz and you may as well not have bothered lol.
I would welcome the oppurtunity to watch a vid of how some of you uber-high scorers play through a level to see what I'm getting wrong.

If you get the yellow trick ribbon, and deliberately fly up to the top of the screen so you are against the 'roof/ceiling/whatever' you can just hammer L and R to make Nights register lots of tricks without actually doing them. With this you can get a "Dreamy" 12 tricks nearly every time. I can't remember if this works on the Saturn version but it does on the XBLA version.

I'm currently in the top ten for all dreams (top 3 for a couple!), so yeah, been playing it for scores since the control update.
I would say that the lack of being able to choose your boos specifically hampers it and yes, the dreamies seem even easier (partly because air brakes are harder to do)
charlie, if cat has only beaten your score by 130k, that's only 65k pre-boss, which is 16,250 extra per the 4 ribbons in SV3 - that's only 4 extra dreamies per ribbon... you can do that!
I was always dissappointed that they didn't take the glitch out of the ps2 remakes, let alone the digital one - lost opportunity imo.
Other score related points of interest -
Soft museum 360 stunts seem a lot slower
Twin Seeds star trick seems as good ever
Has the nightopian mare 4 star bonus had its 256 limit removed? Or did I imagine it?
While Gillwing is on average harder, i did manage 117 seconds

I'm currently 1st place for Splash Garden in the PC version. I'm going to enjoy that while I still can.

That's alright, I knew it wouldn't last for long. Besides, I'm still 1st for Christmas Spring Valley (Claris).

I just got in 1st for Mystic Forest (PC version). I beat Gulpo the fastest anyone can beat him in this remake and I still get a 1.9 time bonus. The heck...?

The best I've managed to get is a few frames off, Gillwing is way too hard in this version. :( Is your strat similar to this? It'd be great if there's a faster strat I'm missing, I just can't seem to get those last few frames. While Gillwing is on average harder, i did manage 117 seconds :)
There's a very very easy Gulpo strat in the remake that gets 111, 6 seconds over what you need for a 2.0. Just remember that if you hit Gulpo while he's knocked over from a previous hit, it counts as two hits, so you need to be quick. Even if you mess it up though you have 6 seconds to spare, so you can most likely salvage it.I just got in 1st for Mystic Forest (PC version). Top of elliot's xmas on xbox!
Thanks for that video miles, really helpful.
Gillwing 117 was done as you do it, so dashing left and above gillwing, getting near the gap in his tail but without going complete through it, just slightly overlapping into it, then paralooping up and right to catch the tip of the tail. Grabbed a screen shot of it if anyone wants proof!

This make me realise how bad I am at playing NiGHTs compared to most people on this forum :/ my highest score is 250th (on Splash Garden I think? I always did like Splash Garden best.) I am not even ranking on the Twin Seeds stages, and I thought my timing was fairly smooth!
I get significantly higher scores with the PS3 version than the Saturn version, though. I think I get on a little better with the controller - I don't have a proper NiGHTs pad on my Saturn. In fact, I'm not sure my controller always works properly on my Saturn, I love the Saturn best of all consoles but the parts wear out so fast...
