I think we'll get more NiGHTS games in the future. Sonicteam really likes NiGHTS. Maybe not soon, but i can believe that they'll have another go at some point. People have just gotta keep showing they love NiGHTS and want to see more.

Yes we're quite great at being annoying as hell to get stuff done. It's a honed skill.

I'd like to see a portable game. DS would be great, especially since the graphics would be reminiscent of the Saturn (but better, of course).
I doubt JoD is the last game EVER, though. In eleven years, our kids'll be on this site, begging for NiGHTS 3, and WHATTYAKNOW?! NiGHTS 3. We'll sneak into their rooms at night, turn on their SuperWii64UltraCubes, and get lost in the dream all over again. Of course, by this point in the future, video games will be SERIOUS FREAKING BUSINESS, and we'll have to strap on our Power Glove II's and our Ultra Balance Boards and our WizeMart-Brand Motion-Sensing Jester Hat with Real Working Rocket Launcher Attachments.
And the people will rejoice.

Given Sega's talks about utilizing IPs in a more effective, respectful way, and puttin NiGHTS in ASR, there's still some love. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I hope so guys. It's just that they kinda killed him, and I'm wondering how they'll un-kill him for a sequel. The only other death-revival I can think of that they've managed was shadow, and that's only because we didn't see him die.
... NiGHTS and Shadow...
Now i have to try and draw that.

NiGHTS: Cawlifonya... LUCAS... Darling! --- You've been watching Nostalgia Critic, haven't you? Back on subject, no, I doubt NiGHTS will be going anywhere. At the very least it's still a cash cow for whenever that one person who comes up with Sonic plots is on vacation. At the very most TRiPPY will eventually buy the rights and make a NiGHTS game but RIGHT. And somewhere in the middle we fans will have to make a full game ourselves without rights.

The only other death-revival I can think of that they've managed was shadow, and that's only because we didn't see him die. Clearly you don't read superhero comics, where pretty much every character who has ever died has come back to life. And every superhero has died at some point, some multiple times. Even deaths which are very important to the storylines can be undone -- a while back the possibility of Batman's father being alive popped up in Batman comics and I'm pretty sure Spider-Man's Uncle Ben has been brought back. Also: it's not like JoD is a sequel to NiD in the storyline sense of the word. NiGHTS 3 could have its own unique continuity just as JoD did. I admit that I haven't played JoD but from what I've gathered NiGHTS' death is not even such a definite thing and was potentially ambiguous? I mean, I can't imagine a scene in which Will & Helen are burying his corpse... If Sega wants a new NiGHTS game set in JoD continuity, they would figure out a way to pull it off.

QUOTE (Musashi_HUmar @ Feb 15 2010, 03:44 PM) Personally, I don't feel any more NiGHTS games should be made because there wouldn't be the same love, support, and devotion that NiD had. Plus, we wouldn't have Naka or Oshima behind the development at all and they're key people. I am personally happy having just one amazing NiGHTS game on my Sega Saturn. That's all I need. While I understand this kind of perspective on games, I have to say that it's something that can really be a hindrance. People rearrange, re-envision, and reboot concepts, characters, songs, franchises, and so on very often, many times without the involvement of the original creators or "key people" responsible for what made them what they were previously. Look at the Three live-action Batman reboots, and the numerous animated versions that have existed. The same basic core concepts, though many contributing factors are wildly different, and still you can see how high quality the results can be in many cases. Even if the original creators of something can't capture the magic as they once did (OH, SONIC, WHY?!), that doesn't mean that another group, another generation, can't give it the dedication and creativity that would do it justice. Now, granted, I'm speaking from a perspective where I encounter people on OCReMix saying things like the following: (posted in response to the Xenogears project releasing) "You ruined FFVII and now this??.. how dare you even touch such a great soundtrack like that? it's one of the best soundtracks by Mitsuda.. you just ruined it with your lame originality.. why can't you make the recognizable remix?? don't try to be original by adding non-fitting chords or any bad sample choices.. please stop doing it!!!!!" and the person goes on to say: ".. you can't just take a complete master piece and put you unpleasant originality to it.. you can add solos or other stuff that FITS!!! you got the whole remix stuff so much wrong.. you nor I have the rights to change the melody of the original.. I you want to put your originality, make your own song, with out riding on the franchise.." I know I'm going really far with this point, MUsashi, and believe me I'm only talking about it because you brought it up, and I'm not arguing with you in the least. I'm just trying to illustrate that a perspective of purity or holding steadfast to the creative vision that can only be brought out by the original key people is something which can ultimately be what kills something that still has the ability to be wonderful. While my example might seem far and away different than the topic you're referring to, it really isn't by that much. Look at Bentley Jones, who was a remixer before he actually did songs for the industry. These people who hold the love and passion for ideas can end up honoring them so much that some end up with the opportunity to do it within the confines of officiality within that idea. My goal here was to show that as long as someone identifies with a concept enough to try to contribute to it themselves, it is very much alive and has a possibility of continuing. If my rant was too much, then just blame it on the fact that it's Wednesday and I've been overworking my brain.

I've said this countless times over.
The NiGHTS fanbase has two games and you've either come in from noticing NiD or JoD. We are unlike the Sonic fanbase where loads of different fans have come in from different era's of the hedgehogs career. There are Sonic fans who love the old school 2D stuff, there are those who love the Adventure series, there are those who love the StoryBook series, and so on. To make an idealistic Sonic game that appeals to every Sonic fan is now impossible. They just couldn't do it.
However, with NiGHTS things are different. Where as it would take a LOT to make a good Sonic game, it doesn't take that much to make NiGHTS a good game. One of the reasons JoD went sour is because of the way SEGA handled it. Rushing it and moving it from console to console and just basically shitting on the franchise, that's a key reason as to why NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams failed. And i do feel Iizuka is not able to craft a NiGHTS game on his own, i do feel Yuji Naka and Oshima need to be present for the game to really take form properly. JoD changed the way we flew. It was no longer about chasing time but about chasing birds. NiD, your only real enemy was time stopping you from continuing. JoD, your enemy became physical. You had to chase a bird, you had to rush, the levels felt different because of it, you couldn't lap, the online time rankings were gimped, it was butchered.
I could go on all day about what makes NiGHTS a great game and how SEGA could make a great game again but that's not the point i'm trying to make.
What i am trying to say however is if they ever did decide to make another NiGHTS game, NiGHTS 3 or whatever, then it really wouldn't take a lot to make it good. It's just JoD done it too differently and that's why it failed.
If i were you i wouldn't be against having a NiGHTS 3. I would be against poor design choices and upperhead management.
One thing i've always said was Sumo Digital should do a NiGHTS game. Why? Because these guys care for detail. You've only got to look at the games they've done to see this. And since our community has had such an impact on that company i feel no other games company understands us more than Sumo Digital. Of course, Sonic Team would never let that happen :/
