Ouch. That sounds very not-fun. QUOTE (Sierra @ Sep 20 2009, 11:14 AM) Anyone else have some sort of strange restrictions in dreams? Does not being able to run count, since (at least almost) everyone feels that sometime?

I had a dream a while ago where I was new in some town and found that there was a gang that regularly terrorized everyone here. However, when they came to kill people I was around, I stopped them, including their boss who was some rich CEO, and drove them off by taking their guns (I was lucid). But I knew the boss would be back to kill me, so I carried around a gun with me for protection. I decided I was going to kill him first, to ensure my own survival and to keep him from killing any other people. When I saw his van driving past (really slowly. That should've given me a hint), I ran up to the window, which was rolled down, and immediately fired at him. However, all that came out this time was a bunch of water. Now, here's where the weird feeling comes in. He shot me, in the chest, before I could react. I was surprised, though it didn't really hurt. But I did feel the bullet in my chest. It was like something was just under my skin or somehow attached to me. It looked like a little round white Tylenol pill. A second after I was shot, the scene changed to complete blackness, though I could still see my body and the pill, and ethereal, dark shapes swirled around me, like there were people around in the "outside" world but I was absorbed in my self-observation. I felt my physical body lying face-down on my bed ('cause that is how I was sleeping at the time), and the pill seemed to be going even farther in because of the mattress pressing against it. I didn't like that, so I was somehow able to get back control of my "dream arms" and tried pushing it down away from where my heart would be. However, then it sank down and in, and it sent a shudder through me. I realized that I had probably just pushed it right to where my heart is, and was afraid more than ever that I was gonna die. Dream or not, I felt something inside of me, something that I was convinced was physical, even though I knew the dream gave it to me, and something like that could kill me. I was starting to panic, but thankfully I "woke up" in the dream world, lying on my back on a bed. That crime boss had had the bullet extracted and my wound healed, because I was interesting to him, since I'd actually stood up to him instead of cowering in fear (Yes, overused movie cliche). Then he asked me to marry him, and I refused.

I often feel things like warmth or pressure on my body, but one of the things which has been extremely prominent is smell. I often sense very strong smells in my dreams often associated with important objects or symbols.

usually when i have a dream where i feel something, i usually break something or get shot in the dream. Surpisingly, when i wake up, there always manages to be some sort of injury where i got hurt in the dream (IMG: style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) other than that, i usually don't feel anything. What i do hear is an annoying, high pitched, metalic screech. It makes me want to rip my head off, but thats not from my dreams

Yeah, well... um... I don't really know if I'm mistaken or not, but I woke up from a dream crying my eyes out after having a feeling of someone sqeezing the left side of my ribcage. Again, I'm not sure if I'm remembering this right or not, but I do remember my throat closing shut in terror while my limbs flailed and clawed trying to escape. Maybe it was the subject matter of the dream itself that prompted this response, but either way I felt like I was being suffocated.
I have the feeling this has happened to me a handful of times before, and all of them have been bad dreams, but they happened so long ago that I'm not sure.
Pardon if this is jumbled or reads odd, but I'm somewhat not awake at the moment.

Merged your post, Meggie.
Sometimes I wonder if sensations aren't linked to something that we're doing while asleep. I'd give credit that most times, it's based on the air conditioning, a blanket, a cat stepping on you while sleeping... but other times, I think our dreams try to give us the "real deal" and put us through the anticipated stimuli that correspond with actions. I don't know if that comes from experience or if it's based on how we think..
The dreams I have where I'm suffocating or am short of breath is because I've managed to choke myself with the pillows or blanket, or the way my arm is draped across my chest. It's an awful feeling to wake up with...

For the most of it, it's sensations of taste from intruding items around me... yech.
I do remember very vivid fruit flavors in candies and beverages from a few dreams back when. Very few of my dreams involve food stuff unless I'm feeling extremely hungry and unable to purchase sweets.

Just yesterday morning, I had a false awakening where I stumbled downstairs still very sleepy and started munching on chocolates in the kitchen. I needed an energy burst, because I was feeling very drained, and I usually eat some sweets when I'm feeling fatigued but not hungry. Mom objected to me eating chocolates meant to be shared with the entire family and asked me to go upstairs and bring down my own chocolates to eat, but I informed her that I had already eaten the ones she gave me the afternoon before (which I had, in the waking world as well (IMG: style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ). Those chocolates were different kinds, but usually nut-filled and crispy. Some were dark chocolate, but most were milk. The taste that I remember the best from a dream, though, happened years ago when I was around 5. There were brownish and purplish furry bipedal monsters that chased me around and tried to scare me. Later, I was somehow away from the monsters but found out that my dad died off on a trip, I think in California (I was always afraid there were going to be earthquakes there when he was there on business). I started bawling. Then I was with the monsters again, who were around me in a circle, and I was still crying. Instead of trying to chase and scare me again, the monsters felt bad for me and handed me a chocolate-chip cookie. I remember it tasted very real. It was a treat, because I didn't get a lot of sweets back then--just a small slice of frosting-less cake during my or my brothers' birthdays and one small Tootsie Roll during Halloween--but it didn't make up for Dad. I was sobbing and my throat was knotted up as I was trying to munch on the cookie. It was such a sweet-tasting cookie, too.

Sometimes I feel a lot of pain when it doesn't seem like I should, and other times I won't feel any pain at all, when the situations seems that I'm supposed to.
For instance, the other night I had a strange dream of being jabbed by bunches of needles, and it didn't hurt. I had a different dream last night, long story short, I was taking a test in school, picked up my pencil, and it gave me a really sharp electric shock so bad it seared the skin of my fingers, and I woke up with my fingers all tingly. O.o

My most vivid sensations are tactile. There was a dream, where I was sitting on the floor, with my head on the laps of a demon who was sitting on the sofa, and I could feel short and soft fur. The demon was touching my back, which was, apparently, bare, and it gave me that disturbing feeling like I'm about to be tickled. Only that it felt like a mild jolt. There were also a couple of dreams when someone's standing behind me and then gently blown into my ear, it's so irritating.
What I don't like are the dreams in which I'm crying. It's like... my eyes hurt, but I can't actually shed a tear, and tears well up inside me so quickly, sobs feel like a choke. That choking feeling in my throat is what I hate the most...

I have a new tidbit a few of you may find interesting...
Last night, during my dream, it suddenly started raining. I at first ignored it, but after a while, it started to become more intense, with thunder and lighting. This also became more intense, and as the lightning got brighter and faster, the louder the thunder got, and I eventually had to stick my fingers in my ears due to the noise. (I have very sensitive ears) Then a bolt of lightning struck within sight of where I was standing, and the resulting explosion made me want to yell in pain. I woke up immediately after, ears ringing. The room was absolutely silent, and my roommate was sound asleep. I asked her later if she heard anything, and she said no.
So, question: Do you think it was a real world stimulus. or purely mental? 'Cuz it seriously hurt. @_@

QUOTE (Purge @ Dec 5 2009, 02:21 AM) whenever I fall off a cliff or a long distance, I feel that drop, and it makes me wake up. Pretty much every scary dream I have ever had consisted of this, with me waking up from the exact same cause. Every other dream usually just involves video games. I think I had a couple with Mewtwo in it...
